3rd year hunting and I'm still after my first deer with the bow. Not holding out for anything special, it just hasn't happened yet. Learning a lot from this channel! Just got my first good buck on camera here in Upstate Ny. Hoping this year is the year!!

Don't give up, man! I started out in upstate NY as well and didn't get one for the first few years. Jeff has taught me SO much about hunting and contributed directly to my recent success. Keep soaking up his info and you'll get one soon! Best of luck this year.

I'm hunting public land for the first time this year. I was late to scouting but I have a lot of spots marked so I think I'll do alright. I went to a 500 acre public property a few times to look and couldn't find more than 5 rubs and I walked for about 7 miles all through there checking places I thought were good. Talk about discouraging... I'm gonna go check out this place up by Kansas next and then I still have at least 3 public properties I'm going to check out. I'm trying to focus on remote areas but I'm not overlooking the spots by the parking lots either.

Always enjoy your programs and the information you provide. I am just curious... but you are up north and I am down south... I realize that the principal is the same... but would it be possible for a future program series. To show your application to a property down here in the south. We of course don't have snow and the amount of severe cold. But the heat, vegetation is a little bit different... I don't know, maybe there really isn't any great difference. But it would be interesting to see how you would work southern property as compared to northern property.

Jeff, we have an old creek bottom field that’s only about 30 yards wide and borders our neighbors. They hunt to where they can see over our field so I’m thinking about turning it into a “shrub” plot by adding wild plum, hazelnut, black chokeberry, American beautyberry, etc... basically thicket forming plants for the deer to move around and feel safe. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Jeff as a Swamp Chestnut and white oak enthusiast, I can understand the amount of time and space that planting them take, however we have one oak here in the South that is an early producer and I'd like your input on it, Sawtooth..... I was helping manage a 5000 acre tract awhile ago, but the owner was adamant that he wasn't interested in Sawtooth, I may be way off base here, but because it produces at an early age and drops its mast early, I felt it would be a beneficial addition to add some to the edges of his clear cuts. What's your take on the Sawtooth? Worth the time and effort?

Do you have any advise for hunting urban city hunts? Usually don't have access to change land and typically very small lots 1-10 acres or are in large city parks. Human scent is every where with runners and bikers. Other than finding small pockets of privacy which is hard or not available, do you have any ways to better my odds?

Whats the best way to determine where to hinge cut on a property?
@thistledewoutdoors33314 жыл бұрын
I like to mildly hinge cut the property edge/dropping the trees horizontally that act as a visual fence/barrier... This helps deer disappear from outside hunters eyeballs & creating sanctuary.... Also prevents trespassers wanting to cross into your property due to that visual jungle gym...

I’m thinking deer pattern you more than you pattern them, especially mature bucks. We both know you have to play the wind but I’ve noticed mature bucks seem to come from different directions than the family does. Think I bought some cool aid but what’s your thoughts about the scent eliminating ozone bags?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions97514 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark! Man I believe no matter what you do...your hunt is over if a buck is downwind. And so true deer can pattern us better than we can pattern them...which is why you need to make sure that you set up so there is very little chance deer will get behind you...buck or doe. No ATVs, very little hunting on food plots...but most of all you have to keep your legs clean and brush down so your scent trail is taken care of. The scent trail is the 1 thing with your scent you can control.

i have access to lots of farms in northern MN but the fields are just hay mostly grass and weeds , how much money do i need to plot up 1 acre of something good by hand with no equipment? ballpark $ amount
@vikinghalfbreed63854 жыл бұрын
What are your thoughts on having a food plot next to a large ag field? On my lease its 283 acres of 90%ag land. Maybe 50 total acres of usable timber for hunting but its not all together. 7acres here, 10 acres there etc. I have a 1.5 to 2 acres area up against the neighbors property that the farmer doesnt use. Its 500ft by about 100ft wide. My question is because all the timber next to it is on the neighbors property and directly on the other side of the plot area is open ag field. Would that be a good place to make my plot? Sorry for the long post.
