Finally someone who says that "standing" desks are not the solution to all problems. 99% of tech setup KZbinrs always praise standing desks like they're the solution and simply standing will solve everything, instead of moving and leaving your desk for a bit. Thanks for this, man.

ignore everything any of these enthusiasts and "experts" say, buy a 70 dollar legend 45 inch desktop from walmart shipped free to your door and you'll have more than you need. you don't need any of these overpriced products as long as find a desk that permits you to elevate the computer off the ground level

The problem is the height, everyone is different and if I was to buy a standard desk the height would be wrong for me lol. Which is why I get a sit/stand one. I never use it for standing btw, very very rarely lol! However it's worth the price to me to get the correct height!

@@GuiOfficial yeh it is a bit overhyped! all it means is it's healthy to move about really lol and sitting for long periods can be unhealthy but it's more about YOU than anything. I sit on my butt gaming all day on my days off lol. However my job is physical so when I am there I get exercise and I am on my feet and moving about the whole shift so it's all about balance. I also exercise a bit outside of this and sometimes skateboard. So it's all about still doing stuff! I am proof you can sit on your butt all day so long as u get some exercise in other days :D

I picked a termite eaten dead tree on the property and pulled it down… checked for eggs in the bird nest up top first. Took the tree to a mill and had it cut in slices. Picked the best thick piece and used that for my desk top. Used a lift stand from Amazon with decent motors and a touch panel. I just used a light oil wash to seal it. Cable management is heavy and I need to rethink either a wall rack or a better rack on the stand. It’s like a rats nest right now. I like your setup. I have servers and workstations… oh… wall step-off with everything behind it with egg lighting glowing effect. I can do that!

My first PC 'desk' was the bathroom door in my studio apt. I figured I could use the dead space behind the door-swing for some shelves and the door itself was more than sturdy enough for my needs. I used a half-height bookshelf on one end, a mini-fridge on the other and routed all the cables through the hole for the door knob - 30yrs later and my current desk really isn't much different. I built it out of 3/4" ply, oak trim and added a riser for my displays with a soundbar (Katana) underneath. It supports my main display and two "reference screens" that I use to track misc stuff. One leg is a filing cabinet which I've modified to house my ITX build and the bottom drawer holds my bills, receipts etc. The other leg is still a bookshelf, holding a USB hub and my HOTAS on the top shelf followed by a rug on the bottom shelf for the fkn cat.

I went the Home Depot butcher block route and love it. 7ft long or so. I cut a 10in section off it long ways and made a monitor riser/stand to add some more utility as well.. With the legs I got, and the stain, it was under $250 at the beginning of the pandemic. Ive got some craft room roll out drawers that work fine for my usecase of half pc desk, half modeling, painted desk.

@@blasandresayalagarcia3472 I stained and sealed it and oiled like once after cleaning for a move. The finish was a self leveling sealer that shouldnt need oil. And its not a food prep surface for me, so its definitely less maintenance involved. Or maybe Im doing it wrong lol I did get a second table that was pre-stained, and all I did was add a sealer to it. Matches pretty close, and a have lots of space on a corner desk now.

This video is awesome. I'm not local to an Ikea so back at the beginning of 2021. I went to my home depot and dropped $180 on a 6 foot butcher block top. I went from a 4 foot wide desk with only 21 inch depth to a 6 foot wide and 30 inch depth and it was amazing, ended up coping some crappy legs from amazon that were on the brink of death within the next year and went with some industrial piping and its study as a rock now. i love this desk it is SOOO study and so thick its amazing, hasn't let me down yet. especially being able to drill holes in the bottom for my power strips was a life saver for cable management. My only down side is i got it in Aprilish of that year so it was still super cold out so i never got to stain mine like i wanted to and haven't had the chance since so its a bright wood which i don't care for but regardless the desk is absolutely amazing and a BIIIIIIG recommend to anyone with around $220-$230 budget for a desk.

I went the Home Depot based route and bought an 8'x2' live edge countertop for my setup. I went a little overkill with the project and pulled a lot of inspiration from Blacktail Studio here on KZbin. I routed out two pockets for some metal C channel to prevent any possible warping, used some nice black powder coated wishbone style legs, stained the wood with a black liquid dye and sealed it with two coats of Rubio Monocoat, a hardwood floor sealer. I have more than enough room for my 34" ultrawide monitor, my pc and my laptop with plenty of space for anything else I might add in the future. There are plenty of cheaper options out there, considering material costs plus all the tools I bought, but knowing that this is the only one like it and I did everything myself makes it all worth it in the end.

Even though she is a teacher and not a gamer the amount of room is fantastic for her preference and the drawer space is phenomenal! I'd highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for the same experience.

I love having a sit/stand desk, I have never seen them advertised as "replace sitting" I think that is a misconception. I had a solid 30x60 top from an old writing desk and bought a sit/stand powered frame from amazon and slapped it on there. You don't use them to just stand all day, you use them to switch from sitting to standing, then you can do some active things like squats, stretch, or whatever. Also a nice idea is to get a easy to move walking treadmill to put under the desk to get steps in if you still want to do some easy work at the desk or watch something. I see the value also to have a solid built butcher block/ikea desk setup with a great chair for concentrated deep work.

A lot of those with standing desks have a treadmill underneath it. In that scenario, the standing desk is a much better option. The act of walking on the treadmill constricts and releases the blood vessels, increasing circulation. It's the same reason they recommend that you do foot and leg exercises on a long flight. Additionally, it improves cognitive function. FYI, you don't need to buy a desk with storage. You can get a cheap, three-drawer plastic storage tower that fits nicely under most desks. If you want to get fancy, you can go to a furniture store and get an upscale wooden one. Adjustable desks can also remedy poor posture or improper keyboard and mouse height levels to prevent cramping. Most chairs can only adjust to a small degree.

I bought a cheap, dual motor standing frame on Amazon for around 200. Then I built the top, because nothing was available at the size I wanted. My top is roughly 105" x 32" so it's massive! The electric raising frame handles the weight okay.

I think the concept of the standing desk is so that you can stand from time to time while working without having to bend over to see the screen. Not that you’ll stand for 3 hours at a time. I love the fact that the IKEA idea is cheaper, but this idea requires your setup to be more stationary and makes rearranging the setup more cumbersome.

The reason I bought and love my standing desk is not to stand all day. In fact, I rarely stand. I bought it to be able to adjust the height of my desk to a comfortable sitting height to not have shoulder pain and problems from poor ergonomics (which I experienced before and went away after using it). Adjusting your chair height helps but isn't sufficient since most chairs don't go high enough and you don't want your feet to dangle just to have a good desk to hip height. Out of 4 saved heights for my desk, 3 of them are different sitting heights which I alternate between along with my chair height to get a different sitting feeling (changing the position and bend in knee feels good.) I choose to buy the standing desk frame separate so I could choose my desk countertop independently. My desk frame also provides support to the desk, so it doesn’t bow over time thanks to the fact that both sides of the legs (left and right) are linked via a support frame from one side to the other on which the desk countertop lays (is screwed to). Since my standing desk didn't have storage, I just added an Alex drawer to the right of my desk. I also placed my computer tower on it to display it and not lose desk space. (Sit stand desks have a max weight limit which I’m far from surpassing [350lbs for mine] but helps, nonetheless. Standing desks are more expensive, but I “invested” in purchasing one for my health as I would for a desk chair or bed since with the amount of time I spend using it, having one can prevent/mitigate long-term health problems from occurring thus providing me better quality of life and possibly preventing health related bills later on. I’d love to know if anyone else has similar or different reasons for buying a standing desk and how their experience using it has been.

As far as the sit/stand desks go, I think you may be missing the ergonomics behind them. You are not meant to stand all day, as you had said. The idea is that neither is a good thing to do all day, but doing both helps to increase circulation, better your posture, and just overall make you feel better throughout the day when you have to slog in front of a computer your whole life. I'm guessing that, since you are talking about gaming, it's a voluntary thing and you may be looking for a seated desk with a super comfy chair.

Nice, very nice video! I personally back in 2020 bought the cheapest option from IKEA, it was super simple to assemble, few screws and that's it, yes there are no drawers but I have 2 monitors 27 and 24 inch on them with the whole PC on it (modern one - believe me newer PCs are heavier). The two downsides I see from 3 years now is that in the middle where the 27 inch monitor is it has bent a bit and I wish it was a bit more sturdy, it does not move when i type aggressively but still :D. I would suggest with both hands just go IKEA if you have the option, super cheap and super easy to built I think about 35 Euros or 70 leva (bulgarian currency) i bought the tabletop with the legs, I wanted specific color - all gucci.

Hey! Have you checked out the HOTO Compressed Air Capsule? It's a compact device that combines powerful vacuuming and blowing capabilities for maintaining a spotless environment on your desk and beyond. It has some great features like multiple tubes, high-quality filters, and a brushless motor for enhanced power. Plus, it's lightweight and portable. Definitely worth considering!

What are some alternatives for the desk legs if I were to get this tabletop? I do not have an Ikea near me and the delivery fee is more than the actual product. Are there desk legs I could get that you could recommend or something else?

Always good content BIGE! I just go with a classic IKEA hack, big size. Then add a large mousepad, then top it off with some sweet Groovemade details like the wooden laptop stand and speakers. People really think it looks expensive and style. yet you get away with it cheap (except the groovemade stuff).

For a long time I went the ikea route using an antique door fry high school that I got when it was demolished. I've paired down a lot and now it's way too big. My biggest issue is enough room for my 34' curved monitor - it's a beast and non detachable from its base.

Doubt you’ll see this, but I need some advice for my small bedroom/office desk setup. If I were to DM you could you give me advice. I know if I were to get great advice from anyone it’s you.

For a computer desk I bought a 55" Gaming Desk off Amazon for $140 dollars. The desk came with a mouse pad that covers the entire surface of the desk which I really like. Using a vertical dual monitor mount for that clean look on the desk. For a keyboard I'm using a 60% mechanical with a G502 mouse for that even more of a clean look. I was able to place my PC tower on the edge of the desk without breaking that clean look. I ended up buying a storage unit that was the perfect size for under the desk which gives me a place to store few things I use quite often.

I personally thing that standing desks are good cause you dont stand all the time, you sit and stand for sometime and standing desks are expensive unless you know what your doing, u can get a great standing desk frame like 200-400 and you can get a tabletop or countertop(countertop is typically more heavier than tabletop) so mostly you could get a good standing desks for 300-400 bucks overall. Sure ikea desk hack is fine but people typically dont have much space for it, and they take a tabletop making the leg room cramped cause of the alex drawers.

So hear me out, this may seem crazy, but what if... you don't have a standing desk but you still just........ stand from time to time? 🤯

@@BigE no offense to your opinion, but i think that once im in work i cant get to stand up and same applies to standing desks. So i usually use a good chair which isnt necessarily good for comfort but isnt bad for my posture so i stand up to get rid of my pain while sitting on that chair for a long time, so while standing i can continue my work. But for regular desks i would rather just do something else in that time which kinda defeats the purpose of me doing work(like im not hating on doing something else but id rather continue on my work).

The Husky Adjustable Height Workbench is a good budget standing desk. It uses a hand crank which is a bit of pain for adjusting, but it gets the job done. Got one on sale for $199 at Home Depot a couple of years ago. Really solid desk and it has the option of adding wheels.

I have a Fezibo sit/stand desk. It's 55x24 and I love it. I paid $200 brand new from Amazon during Christmas. I've had it for about 3 weeks now and so far so good.

I liked this video (and clicked like), and I think you did a great job. Tiny complaint: scrubbing through, the video was mostly of you. I had to carefully time a pause to look at the desks for more than 5 seconds.
