I’ve been using the Orion 32 Hd for 4 years. Greatest investment I ever made for my studio. Those fpga fx are the bomb. That 176 compressor emulation on drum rooms is bombastic. The analog emulations are all spot on. I use them on every session and every mix, and nobody else has anything close to the connectivity I can get at that price point. Call me a fan boy.

Hey Warren, how are ya? Will you please do a ZEN Tour vs. UA Apollo comparison video? Antelope has years of clocking superiority (in my opinion), how do the Antelope ZEN Tour pre's compare to UA UNISON pre's? I don't like to assume, do they both utilize voltage adjustment tech at the pre amp level, and how do they compare with one another? UA & Antelope are my top 2 interface picks, as far as dynamic range, clocking, pre amps and onboard processing abilities are concerned, though AVID might actually have something cooking with their new Carbon interface. Speaking of processing power, how does the ZEN Tour onboard processing compare to that found in the Apollo lineup? Your real world opinion would be much appreciated! Cheers ~

I have a zen tour pre synergy core and I absolutely adore it. There are some little quirks here and there that are mildly infuriating but it sounds so good that it outweighs the cons. I like the older unit more because it has an additional set of ADAT I/O so for a desktop interface it’s expandable up to 24 mic/line inputs and you can plug a clock into it via s/pdif and really make use of it. I’m just trying to find out now if the Antelope interfaces are daisy chainable so when I inevitably upgrade to an Orion I can connect the two. If not it’ll go to a dedicated composing setup but either way it’s a fantastic interface. Definitely justifies the $1700 or so price tag

Technology isn’t perfect and it never will be, It’s going to have problems every now and then and that’s just how it is. Even the most expensive pieces of kit aren’t going to be perfect 100% of the time, like a tube may blow or a jack may need replacing, or the power supply could go out, or ProTools could crash again. And again. And again. And again. Do you see my point now?

@@Telewest792 plus I’ve had mine for over a year and those little things are fixed in minutes when they happen, you have to be able to troubleshoot in the studio and keep things rolling because you never know what’s going to happen, and the facade that everything is going to work perfectly 100% of the time in the studio especially when it’s expensive just isn’t true and you’ll save yourself a lot of grief by unsubscribing from that ideology

I bought one of the antelope audio interfaces a while back and I have to say they have improved the workflow and the plugins over thunderbolt with the FPGA & an ARM DSP are really nice. I wish they would make an affordable 2x4 interface so more people could enjoy their products Thunderbolt 3 gives you the ability to use Antelopes plugins if the interface has that built in, and it has way more DSP horsepower compared to an Apollo Twin quad. Great review Warren.

what about already being obsolete and no support. That's what most users in forums complain who bought one. Tons of products and no one knows which is which. Some already discontinued a year after. Also sound wise, not even close to UAD amps (not even talking about the other plugins) It's good for a pedal manufacturer etc, but UAD sound like the real deal, no harshness. This would feel like a toy compared to a X4 or X6 for me, but a serious competitor for m some of the newer floor pedal boards (helix, Line 6 ) which too have audio interfaces - and FX plugins so that fills that niche. Guitar specific board with built in effects. I do like the value proposition. UAD is milking it right and left - and that gotta stop.
@joesalyers4 жыл бұрын
@@massivebeatzz Look I own both Antelope products and Universal Audio Products. UAD is great but it's only real feature is the plugins running on 20 year old Sharc DSP chips. The Antelope Audio plugins Run on either ARM based SOC or more importantly an FPGA which is literally a switchable analog interface to the digital world that can be reconfigured on the fly. McDSP is using an FPGA in their new Analog compressor box the APB16. If you look at what an FPGA can actually do it's far superior to any DSP on the market because it is literally a reconfigurable analog processor that can connect to the digital world with true randomness where as a DSP chip just runs exact 1's and Zeros the same way every time. Antelope updates their hardware every 12 months to the latest converter and clocking tech so sure after a year some hardware is no longer for sale but if you call them on the phone they will help you in any way they can. I can't say that for Universal Audio who have phone support 3 hours a day 4 days a week. Good luck getting someone to pick up the phone at UAD. I do agree the Antelope Amps could be better but the FPGA plugins are absolutely as good as anything on the market. On top of that most Antelope interfaces come with a huge bundle of plugins where as UAD give you 8 plugins that were made in 2001 or 2003. I use both and there are some UAD plugins I really like the Neve 88RS and the Pure Plate are amazing. But I have an older Antelope interface and I can add plugins to the already huge bundle I got with it when I bought it 2 years later at way cheaper prices than UAD plugins. Both Antelope and UAD are expensive but that is the cost of R&D and having the niche' digital tech. But it boils down to which fits into your workflow the best. I like them both and each have advantages over the other but if I had to choose one today, I would choose Antelope because 90% of the UAD amps can be bought for native from Softube or Plugin Alliance a year after they are released for the UAD platform. UAD plugins are very expensive and most are over a decade old. Also you really need at least 16 to 24 DSPs to use them cosistantly in a normal mixing session so that would cost around 4 to 8 grand depending on what hardware inputs you need for your studio. The Antelope can run A LOT OF PLUGINS and most of them come free with the interface so that is why I would choose the Antelope. But like I said it's good to have choices that way everybody isn't stuck using the same interfaces and converters because that would suck HAHA 😁 Have a great day!

So Warren, am I to understand that the effects and such are inside the unit? As in, I can use the onboard processing instead of amp and mic sims on my computer? If so, you could really find a great sound and print that and not have to use the computers processor. One of the biggest problems I have, using a small setup, is running out of the ability to use too many effects that are in the DAW and my computer, which is underpowered I admit, but it can’t keep up. If the processing was done in the interface I could get a great sound and not have to add much, if any, plug ins. That’s for the review. I thought the sound quality was great. Much love from Tulsa.

Great review! What about the Merging Anubis? To my ear it sounds noticably better - I can`t find that they have "committed" a single compromise. The headphone amps are truly high-end and makes the ones on my Apollo sound like an iPhone. The AD/DA conversion is a par with, crazy as it seems, the Hilo and the ADI 2-Pro. On top of that it`s a Ravenna/aes50 interface with extensive, fully customizable monitoring functions and the ability to control up to 256 input and output channels.

Good emphsis on "normal" there' nothing special about unboxing apart from doing yourself to find something that comes that is truely of good quility that makes you feel like you've made a good purchase... but that exsprence has to backed up with it working well otherwise it's only tempary that feeling that nice for a moment. The zen go I really like the look of for the portablity of the size and being usb powered. Great video of the zen tour, would be great random people turning up with a gutir and bass and wanting to play around and see if a track can come from it. Not got exsperiance with guitars and bass so liking the flexabilty of plugins to get a chance to work on that when possible without having to buy a buch of things that might never get used.

I kind of like the microphone emilations also and for the same reason primalry as the guitar effects in the long run... I can play about with diffrent emulations to know what will be a good buy later on when upgrading to the real things... I can find which ones I use the most or find mst usful and then get the real thing. Guitars not so much unless I end up meeting someone doing that but then again they can buy their own things with that as it's part of their setup really. But for Microphones, maybe something else works much better for me and the way I create, produce and mix than what I would think. I think these emilations are good for this reason. Then again it never comes close to the real thing... but it at least gives you something to test for a long time not just keep watching microphone shoot outs that are only going by the same sorce or only displaid in that one song.

I have a Friend that I plan to do a project with, I currently have a m-audio 10/10LT and it still works on win 10,and been recording since about 1995 , being on a disability pension i been saving up for a Solid State fusion to sum with,but the first thing I plan to do is Sample my 1963 Ludwig and incorporate it into Kontakt,I think the Tenant nabours will appreciate that haha

I was very surprised to se how good this interface looks and sounds, and suprised of all the plugins included in the package but unfortunately $ 2200 (in denmark) is a little too much for my wallet. But if I could afford it, I would probably mainly use it for recording guitar and vocals.

Maybe you can toss on a small overhead LED panel to light up the product and then you can still keep your studio theme dark and we can see the thing.

I know! I had a works with Eric! Haha I didn’t know it was going to be that dark! Lesson learned!

A "schnizleton" of songs is what I would record... And that, my friends, is a rather large number of tunes.

Hi Warren, I bought the unit on the back of your great review. I connected it to my MacBook Pro via Thunderbolt 3. The activation process has been a nightmare. I still haven't got it up and running. I just keep going round and round in circles. I can only hope that that the people who designed the audio side of it are not the same people who came up with the activation process. Very bad user experience so far.

Had my eye on the audient id44, I see it in the background of some of your videos. How do the two compare? Which would you buy now?
@Producelikeapro4 жыл бұрын
I love the iD44! Both are great of course! The iD44 is much cheaper but doesn’t have the amp emulations

I have been using Zen tour for 3 years. Haven't been able to figure out one video on routing, or using the reverbs in the product. Hope you could help ! Hope antelope hears this !
@scottjamieson6943 жыл бұрын
Routing is a bit weird but after you get used to it it's great. Reverb is mainly for monitoring but you can record it routed properly. Example of routing would be. Preamp 1 to afx in 1, afx out1 to mix 1, mix 1 to monitors or headphones. On mixer 1 turn on auraverb and turn up "send"

all observations are in line with how i’d assess featureset, tho i’m a bit distracted by gtr tuning ( debated whether it was intonation, eventually deciding it’s tuning.) BTW, have you a collection of face pics w/ adjacent trade show badge, or was our NAMM 2020 encounter unique in that regard? Cheers!
