Daily log - any notes, events, etc. you may hear of throughout the day. Migrate things to a digital calendar later. Take time to think about why the things you're scheduling actually matter. At the end of the day or first time next morning, choose what tasks you will commit to by migrating things from your bujo to your calendar. Schedule tasks in calendar just like you would any appointment. Tasks are experiences waiting to be born - schedule when you will do what. Your calendar represents the choices your are making. Don't forget the larger story you're trying to live - so slow down and take the time to choose what goes from your daily log to your calendar. Process driven vs purpose driven - what things are worth your time?

This was SO helpful, even if to just know I'm not the only one to struggle with this question. Early on in my BuJo practice, I ran into this very dilema. I missundersood the process and ultimatly faild for the first year. I did, thankfully, keep at it and discovered that I still needed to integrate Google Calendar and other tools to keep myself organized. Another helpful resource is Tom Sachs's Ten Bullets... specifically "Keep a List". "Keep a prioritized list at all times. Keep track of every detail relating to every project you are involved with - phone numbers and parts numbers - your list is your future and your past. You will justify your actions through a carefully updated list." This quote forevr changed the way I look at (use) Bullet Journaling!

Thank you for this video! I'm slowly transitioning from a physical BuJo to TickTick - a digital app. I can do Kanban, Eisenhower Matrix, habits, etc. I can also transfer some articles from the Internet to read later. I use it for everything I do during the day, be it meal planning, or books reviews, or just my daily like like cleaning the bathrooms. The great thing about this is that I can use it both on my Android and on the web and they synchronize. I found it faster to enter my notes and reminders than using the physical BuJo, which is why I've decided to go digital. I still consider it a BuJo because it has everything I had in my notebooks (and more).

I have used gcal since 2008, and I find it helpful because I can search for any past appts on there. When I’m in the doctor’s office, I can pull it up and know right away if I have a conflict when scheduling the next appt. The rest go into Reminders (Apple) app, I have repeating tasks set for certain days in there, as well as one offs.

@@Butterflies.and.Tulips Interesting. I've never heard of gcal. I use my phone for appointments. Funnily enough, mine (Android) can go way back for anything I put in there but my husband's (iPhone) gets deleted after 3 months. The easiest way I found to make the next appointment is by duplicating the one I'm at and just change the time and date (my husband can't do that). But TickTick is also great for recurring actions/appointments, etc. My phone too.

someday we will do this full run down but the BuJo is the first place everything goes. Everything needs to "earn" its place - so if it is an important idea, it goes into a knowledge management app called Roam Research, if it's an important event, it will go into the Google Calendar, and if it's an important Team task, it goes into a project management app called Clarity. Other thoughts and personal tasks stay in the BuJo. Hope this gives some initial thoughts!

Very interesting - scheduling tasks on Google calendar. Similarly I use a weekly log setup for scheduling my work tasks. But I do t bullet them so there’s no migration for that spread. That helps when things don’t go as planned. The day before I review my daily log and monthly tasklist and migrate tasks to the weekly log day slot under a project heading. It’s more like a map than anything but sometimes I use it like a timebox if I’m really clicking along (just add more lines)
@christinebainbridge2354 Жыл бұрын
I do things the opposite way. I make sure every event is in my outlook calendar no matter what. Then every month and every week, I use it to create my monthly and weekly spreads. Outlook is tied to my work, especially meetings. I don’t mind the redundancy of writing it down again, figuring out my monthly and weekly planning helps me sort and organize things in my head. Outlook helps make sure that I don’t miss anything important.

I was wondering how to ensure that what gets put in one is also in the other. Now I know - write it in my daily log and then move it to my calendars. That way I always know my schedule even if I just have my phone on me but still have the paper experience with my calendar on a day to day basis.

For me it's pretty much the exact opposite. I introduce any information in to the system through google calendar because i find it way more convenient to use my phone for that in comparison to an analog notebook. Every task or event or idea is directly sceduled for a date where i guess i will have time for it. Every evening when planning the next day i then look into my calendar and check the tasks, meetings etc. Tasks which are not necassary to be done this day may be migrated to the next open timeslot in my google calendar. This way no task gets lost and a timeplanning method is developed while capturing the information. This worked great for me for the last 11 months but whats best about the bullet journal method is, that it is so personally customizable. So be inspired by my way of bujo and by ryder carrolls way but find your own style. Peace!

So again thank you for these youtube collections and I am LOVING reading my book, I read a little at night before bed and I FINALLY started setting up and writing in my Bullet Journal Today with intention of evening and morning review as a routine to Reflect and see where am I spending all this time I do not have for myself. Ok so my QUESTION: How Do you use your BuJo for Finances? Bill Pay, Personal Loan Repayments, Creating savings for that "Hawaii trip"? I'm struggling to figure out how to set this up, yet I just created a Collection "Bills / Loan Repayments" on Page 13! Stuck but I know it will help me. What are some best practices you have found? How do I create a plan that works for what my bills are, what my outstanding debt are, and what I can put in the bank to go take a LONG overdue vacation or even invest in my BuJo course (yes that's even on my wish list)! This "go to View place" I feel will help me remember WHY...right now it's just on my calendar as a bill and it's due date, but I feel this is not enough.

Great idea! I fell in the same pittfall that I ended up sometimes writing things down in different places and you tent to forget stuff that way. Just wondering: When you want schedule for example a dinner with some friends for next week and you write it down in your notebook, and you want to add it to your Google Calendar later, what bullet do you use? Is it an event bullet, or a task bullet? With a task bullet your can cross off if you added it to a calendar, but of course it is actually an event. And how do you keep track of what you need to schedule and what is already migrated, if it is an event bullet?

Ditto: Rapid log movies, TV shows, documentaries and webinars "2W" - or creating and maintaining a "To Watch" Collection. (or putting all of them into one IP/Content Collection?) Same with "Impulse Cooler" - things I want to buy - but want to "Cool It" ;-) a minute to see if the impulse passes after researching vendors, prices, options, etc. I later put these into Airtable... so maybe Rapid (Daily) Logging is the answer? Hi, Ryder, love your videos and the BuJo system. I am about to start a part-time PhD and was wondering how I can incorporate a single BuJo for my ideas, plans, etc or if it's a better fit to have a separate PhD Bujo? I like that my current BuJo looks like it will last me for all of this calendar yet, but am pretty sure that I'd need at least 2 BuJos if I were to incorporate my PhD plans, ideas, etc in a single BuJo.

I have a question regarding the Book Log practice and the Daily log. I'm exploring the BuJo as an note-taking method to read book while staying disconnected from Internet and distractions, and staying mindful about the reading itself. I've read the article about Book Log, given that I create a new collection for Books to read, and a new collection for each book so far I can understand this. However, I'm trying to think throught whether I should take all the notes from my reading in the Daily Log first and then migrate, or to take them directly into the Collections and creating new pages for each chapter. Also, during reading I tend to discover a lot of tasks that I would like to experiment in future on. Of course not all those are meaningful, but they are within the notes of the book itself. Should I migrate all those tasks to the daily note, or I should take everything in the daily note, and migrate book notes to book collections? Also, I would like to have a digital Zettelkasten of my notes, so the notes that are most useful I use the "+" sign to mark those notes as migrated to the ZK. So I wonder how many migrations I should do

Wow. Amazing. Is it worth my time. Going from process to purpose driven. This is so good Ryder. This video came in timely for me as I transit from process to purpose in the current season of my life. Sometimes in a fast paced lifestyle, where you are always on the move, I find it hard to take out my BuJo to jot down tasks. For me it’s digital and then analog. Hopefully I can heed the golden advice. Slow down!!😅 Question. Ryder. For you personally, are you still tweaking your BuJo system as you progress along? I find myself tweaking it and improving on it to fit my needs as times goes. Thank you again Ryder. God bless!!

Since having a baby (18 mths ago) I haven't been using my BuJo much, I think because I get pulled in so many directions at once - including having a pen pulled out of my hand by baby as I try to write! I don't want to be relying on my phone so much to make notes, and I'm starting to notice I'm getting confused again about how to organise my life outside of showing up to events/appointments (which I do through Google Calendar). I was wondering if you have any strategies you've learnt that work for parents like me? I've always taken your minimalist approach to BuJo by the way, and always will because I love it.

When you migrate something into your digital calendar, do you still then migrate the item somewhere into your paper BuJo? For example, you decide to schedule something into the digital calendar for 2 hours next Tuesday, do you also then write that into your monthly so you will add it to your daily log on Tuesday when it comes around? Or has the digital calendar basically become your daily log, and your daily log a daily brain dump? Hope you can understand what I am asking 😆 🤣

Along the same lines of using digital tools, can you speak to the pros and cons of using a digital BuJo, for example on an iPad, versus a paper journal? For me, it feels like a time-saver but would I missing out on the spirit of the BuJo method?

Thank you for this. I’ve been looking into the playlists and other videos as well to start getting into the habit. What would your recommendation be make the journaling a habit and getting past that initial set up or to determine the differences between bullets such as a task or event when it could be either?

is there a digital version of the bullet journal? I kept a physical bullet journal for years but find it easier to keep notes on my phone/computer now, is there an online app?

There is but it’s a companion app ie it expects you to also have a notebook.

Events use small circle bullets, but for me I am a private tutor with up to 8 lessons a day at different times. Should I write all my appointments in my journal with the time (instead of a circle bullet)? Or should I use BuJo for everything NOT part of my job? I find if I am to write all my appointments then it really fills up my day logs. Not sure what is best.

Question: if I find out today that there will be an event to attend later in the month, I should log it in today's rapid log - but do I mark it as as an 'event' (little circle)? Because it didn't happen today, so that would look weird. Or do I make it a task, ie. to enter it in on the date that it falls?

hello, Since I know I overthink a lot and am a planner/ organizer type of person, how do we as humans know where to draw the line between writing so much things in our BUJO/notebook and actually living life and doing those things. Because I spend quite a bit of time bullet journaling for the millions of things I want and need to do or I will forget them, but then feel like take too much time too write and plan?? The question is where to draw the line between spending time in my bullet Journal writing things I need to do and doing the things I need/want to, that I spend too much time writing??? Does that make sense?

Nice Video. Specially about tasks / notes / activities not captured for efficiency but screened for answering the question is this worth it? Digital systems appear to emphasize capturing everything efficiently not focusing on those that matter. I like analog such as vinyl for music but it seems my lifestyle requires the digital treatment.

Thanks for this video! I love the idea of intentionally moving events from notebook to calendar. I do have a related question that wasn’t answered: what about events and meetings scheduled by other people. They obviously don’t start in the notebook. Do you log them in BuJo at all?

We use Asana at work, allowing our small virtual team to collaborate on projects and tasks. We even use it during meetings to assign tasks to each other. Having tasks in Asana also allows me to keep all the notes and files related to the task together so they are easy to find when I work on the project. The other benefit is that it's virtual. I'm assigned tasks in Asana, so it doesn't make sense to write it down in my journal and then transfer it to a digital calendar. Or does it? How do you use the Bullet Journal and digital team project management and planning tools?

Thank you and very useful information. Question: What do I do if my daily life is full of meetings, appointments and scheduled chores/duties? How can I incorporate these in a chronological order by using the task & event (in daily log), the way that I can see all these in a clearer manner? Thank you for the advice!
@bulletjournal Жыл бұрын
You might still list them all in order, and vary the bullets. If you are saying these appointments are in your Digital Calendar, then you can begin each day by copying down a general overview of your day with the tasks interspersed? For example it might look like O 9am - Meeting with Z [pg 32] * 10am - prepare agenda for X O 11am - Therapy appointment [pg 17] * 12:30pm - drop off mail * 1:00pm - finalize newsletter O 3:00pm - team standup And of course you can add whatever notes and other tasks as your day unfolds afterward! You'll see I added brackets next to some of the appointments as a possibility for you to "thread" and connect your meeting to a related Collection in your BuJo by adding the page number. Hope this helps!

Ryder - Thanks for this insight. I have also struggled with how to integrate my electronic calender into my BUJO practice. I have a related question: I have historically used a task management app to manage my task lists. Many of my tasks or projects will show up via my stream of emails. Should I capture my email-related tasks in my daily log? I receive a ton of email daily and I'm struggling with how to integrate email with my bullet journal. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! Jeff

As a manager, how do you utilize journal planning with team members? And clients? I am constantly referring to my journal but that is not shareable, especially for sharing meeting notes/strategizing/implementation. We work in MS teams predominantly, but I don't find that as useful as seeing it on my journal/notes

Hi - I am new to this concept and do really want to get started ! So my first question: do you mix private and professionals in the BUJO?
@bulletjournal Жыл бұрын
Yes, I have one notebook for everything - I never have to guess where my notes go, they all go into the same place. And often, we find ourselves remembering a home task while at work, and work tasks while at home, so it's helpful to have one place.

This is something we experience a lot as a team. Especially when we have to link to different documents or assets - and usually there is an individual way to keep projects in our minds (Bujo), while we communicate with others about our progress (apps) - so far it's been helping us to add that routine of updating the app and we take 5 minutes at the beginning of the meeting to do so
