I saw the thumbnail and instantly thought, man I really need to take care of all of our stumps as well! Glad to heard the grinder worked out well for y'all. Probably much faster in the long run than trying to use the backhoe (plus less remnants to deal with). I'm sure you guys can't wait till you get into the mobile home! Take care, and stay safe!

Use the backhoe for that pine tree brother. Take out the roots on the side closest to the panels, then use its own weight tip it over the opposite side. No stump will be left. Keep on hustling!

You should invest in a small band mill. You have enough trees to supply you with some good lumber. As you remove what you need to and then making boards is very fulfilling. 😊

That is a future dream of ours! Any recommendations on a decent one to start with that won't break the bank?

I’ve always liked WoodMizer. They have a nice starter package. If you are not planning on a business the LX25 has served me well. If you want real cheap, Harbor Freight has a decent one. Modifications are fairly simple to make on any of them to make them fit your needs. 😊

I sure missed you last week. Glad everything and everyone is great. Yes,the state and county has to make a lot of people upset. But you have been busy trying to make it happen and appease the folks. A rake or a pitch fork would make getting those wood chips out of your way. My wife and I are in Ohio for our granddaughter wedding and will be heading back south this week. God bless your family.

Hey folks, thanks for the update, hope you're all doing well. Looks like you've made good use of the new toy you rented. How soon are you hoping to have the manufactured home delivered? Will that mean that it resolves the issues you were having with time frames for permits etc once you move into it? Hopefully it removes some of the pressures around that. Stay safe and have a good week.

It's not necessarily the size that matters but rather how sappy and soft the species of trees. I have my own little grinder but pine tree stumps kick my butt. Some I just have to wait a year or two to dry out. You could dig out with backhoe but would htaken longer and huge mess
@DIYorDIE_Off-Grid3 ай бұрын
That makes a lot of sense, that the pine sap makes it harder. We dug out a ton of stumps with the backhoe for our house site. Very satisfying and very messy! 😄
@roberthughes26653 ай бұрын
@DIY_or_DIE plus the sap gums up the teeth so they can't cut very well. I'd rather grind a Maple or oak that's 3 times as big
@chrishechtl83303 ай бұрын
It is cool to see progress, I'm a bit confused though, I was expecting progress on the roof. I am glad you have a machine to dig them out, doing it by hand SUCKS. (been there, done that) We have 2 massive ones in our backyard that have been there for 14+ years. Smart to take on the roots too. Nice amount of mulch to play with though. That may come in handy in the garden. I am guessing you are waiting on your sheathing order to come in before you can finish the roof? I am curious if you are going metal or not.

We have encountered wild dogs, coyotes, wild boar, snakes, and plenty of other dangerous predators on our land. We take the responsibility to protect ourselves and our animals very seriously. We don't see it as sad, but as important and necessary!
