Today we get the GU Patrol in for some underbody treatment before we fit our new Superior Suspension Kit!
Rust Proofing a 4WD is extremely important & for $200 its such an affordable DIY "mod". I highly recommend stone guard on you chassis as its super tough and durable in our conditions! With my last GQ it still looked brand new after two years of abuse!
Super happy with the results and now we can fit the suspension :)
USED:
4x Bottles of stone guard
1x Raptor black 1L
500ml 2k Black (bare metal)
Recommend getting x6 bottles of stone guard extra x4 if doing diffs.

I use VHT rollbar and chassis black. Sticks to everything and is in a spray can. Little bit more expensive but no need for air supply and spray guns etc. Also good for doing bits at a time. Has been hard to get lately but hopefully as the world gets back to normal availability returns.

This has always been one thing that's bugged me about my one!!!! The underneath looks just like your before one very jealous of how this turned out and keen to do the same!!!!
@DarrenBoxhall
@DarrenBoxhall 2 жыл бұрын
You need to thin down the raptor and stick it in a suction feed gun. you don't want it rough like that, you wait till you get mud underneath the car. It's hell to try and get clean
@Incoil
@Incoil 2 жыл бұрын
I have learned that putting thick products to prevent rust on a vehicle that has surface rust will accelerate the rust process. The thick product forms a barrier between the surface rust and atmosphere for condensation to form and eat away from the metal underneath. I would have gone with a thin penetrating product and go over the vehicle from time to time to respray areas in need after some time.
@RoamLyfe

Hmm that’s a good point but my understanding with rust is it can’t grow without oxygen! So I don’t see how it would keep growing!?
@Incoil
@Incoil 2 жыл бұрын
When everything is brand new it might work, but usually cars like yours and mine included takes damage from offroad use wich opens up the product to let moisture and air in, wich then starts to eat away underneath. Here in Sweden they use roadsalt during the winter wich makes it even worse. Many times when doing rustrepairs I have found white spots of dried up roadsalt just eating away from underneath old rustproofing products and sheetmetal in bodywork etc.

Oh yeah okay that’s a great point! I’ll make sure to maintain the chassis!! We don’t have salt luckily!! I feel sorry for some of the cars you would see there!!

@@RoamLyfe I'm not telling what you should or should not do, just sharing my experience and let you decide 👍 I'm going to use penetrating rustproofing for my Patrols and leave it at that and then go over it from time to time to maintain. I like your content, good work 👌

It’s my love of Patrol’s, funny how thing turn out, in the early 1990’s I worked for a time at Nissan Head Office and Spare Parts in Dandenong Victoria, one of my jobs was to over see the new vehicles being delivered on the vehicle transports, some times we would get 90 vehicles a day, my job was to help move them and line them up in order and check them for any damage, check spare tires & tools, radios nothing had been pinched, that’s where I fell in love with the patrol, it was the GQ Series back then I got to drive everything the 300ZX, Patrols, GTR’S, all the models, I got to meet Mark Skaife and his Sister, Jim Richards as they were contracted through Gibson Motor Sports, one time I got to drive Mark Skaife’s Nissan GTR race car around the compound I never got it out of 2nd gear I was too scared, before it was being loaded onto a transport to go interstate for a race meeting, memories. Cheers, Michael

@@RoamLyfe ive ownd my GQ for more then 30 years and I've done what you have more than a few times over the year's. It does look good as that paint acts like a skin and the rust grows underneath. So unless you sand blast everything the rust is still there. And to add the stone guard and raptor have no rust inhibiting properties. They have amazing rust coating/trapping abilities So you do the sums 🤔
