Imagine if the Empire had actually used these droids to disable rebel ships. They would have been terrifying. Good thing Palpatine was a moron to just have most of the CIS assets scrapped

He mentioned intelligent flack and thats terrifying. But another two good ideas i would say are a minefield style or a stealth mine version. You could lock down sections of space and cripple or outright destroy capital ships. Or fully defend a station or base with ones in astroids or burried in ground.

Imagine covering your capital ship in a swarm of them, so any boarding action or trench run is essentially dismantled in short order.

I'm so surprised that it wasn't more common after the war for people to buy large quantities of these and repurpose them for capital ship repair and automation. Imagine buying a few hundred of these reprogramming them to repair your ship and just having them running around doing tasks . You could even replace their little Dome spheres with little repulsors so they can fly around

They did lose the war, due to the assassination ordered by Lord Sidious. The executioner being Lord Vader, himself.

@@dar-nakkallig Sidious was manipulating both sides, if the war prolonged the CIS would have won without a doubt. Sidious plan was realized in creating Vader and so killing off the CIS leadership and deactivating all droids was his move the Republic certainly didn't and couldn't do it.

@@Reoh0z CIS did not lose the war they were deactivated by Sidious orders that's not lossing the fight, had the war prolonged the greater attrition would have overwhelmed the Republic without a doubt

In an old edition of “Star Wars a Complete Guide” I had way back then, there was a breakdown of the different parts of the buzz droid and I think it said that the vacuum-like arms were plasma cutters or something? Which would make sense if the other cutting tools weren’t enough, they could still use plasma to break through the tougher materials but weird because it already has another cutting tool arm that looks more of a plasma torch.

The Buzz droid dispenser would be useful for moving them along the ground or in the inner workings of a CIS ship in their maintance role. Especially if it can charge or do minir repairs on them

These little guys were such a cool concept. I'd love to see more of them, maybe even they could get repurposed for weird things. Maybe even repairs if their reprogrammers could overcome their directive to destroy I'm a little disappointed that the EU apparently didn't have any fluff about their droid brains having certain personality tendencies like there are for most droids, but I guess they don't generally live long enough to think much

The rebels can be happy the Empire never used Pistoikas. Both the Republic and CIS lost the Clone Wars, because none was made to win, but if both sides had these droids, and not just the CIS, the carnage would've been enormous. Neither side was meant to win the war, Esra Bridger figured that out, just when Rex, Kanan and Esra was kicking Kalani's robotic rear end, but then, Khalani probably didn't have Buzzers as i call them on board his ship.

I wonder how cost effective these droids were once paired with a missile. I mean aren't they mostly fire an forget weapons. I mean i suppose they could be gathered up and reused to save on costs. Alsoa droid brain with a complete set of schematics for all ships seems like pireats would seek them out just for that data alone

A missed opportunity for anyone that wants to build a ship, if these things have the schematics of almost every ship to help it effectively sabotage them, then it'd be challenging but rewarding risk to capture and pop one open to download the data

I agree with @patricknakason... Technically Obi-Wan didn’t own his Astromech, it was issued to him so he wouldn’t have said that he doesn’t remember never owning a droid, because of a trauma that affected his brain, it was just a fact. That said, great vids.

While they were extremely effective in philological warfare their original use as repair drones seems more appropriate and practical They could be stationed on board their capital ships like the Providence or Lukrehulks to repair these vital ships during active operations
