What bothers a lot of people about this camera is that it has the ability to be professional for a great price. And that angers those who spend a lot on "pro" cameras and the results are similar. Good video.

Or just use my EF nifty fifty 1.8 to shoot video to save money and use my Sigma 17-70 Ef-S compatible lens to shoot photography. Does that sound like a good plan while I save for more expensive RF lenses?

The size and weight of this camera are so enticing for the normal walkaround camera. I have noted over the years that a smaller camera and lens combination is far more productive (at least for me). the only firmware update, thus far, is the 24fps, in 2019; none i've seen about getting better images with ef-s lenses; i'm told- haven't tried it yet -that when using an ef-s lens with the adapter, you only get about 12 mega-pix; which is disappointing, but aside from that, i'm really liking the rp :D
@JustinMyersPhoto
@JustinMyersPhoto 3 жыл бұрын
The reason for the lower resolution images with EF-S lenses is that they are only designed to cover an APS-C size sensor. So, when using them on a full frame sensor like the RP, the image only gets projected onto the center portion of the sensor and that portion of the sensor only contains about 10 MP or so. That is a physical limitation, so not something that can be changed through firmware

Canon are supposed to be killing it but have failed miserably lately, (except for R3 for now), RP battery is useless. R5 ad R6 are now having reports of lockups and no comment from canon on that. Wait for some kind of watered down version of the R3 with the 30 min video length thrown in the bin and NO overheating whatsoever.
@JustinMyersPhoto
@JustinMyersPhoto 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely don’t think the RP battery is useless, I actually use the camera pretty regularly. With the R5 and R6, I’ve seen a pretty small amount of people that experienced a camera freeze soon after their initial release, but haven’t heard of anyone experiencing that recently, so it likely has actually been addressed in firmware. As far as waiting for a camera with no overheating whatsoever, that’s not going to come very soon from any brand of mirrorless cameras, with the possible exception of things like the Panasonic S1H that have built-in fans, but that’s pretty niche. It will be nice for future mirrorless cameras to not have a 30 min record limit! Though to be fair, a lot of video shooters who use a mirrorless camera for video, aren’t shooting that long per clip anyway

@@JustinMyersPhoto The R3 can do 6hrs straight on one clip then shut off. I'd like the next budget FF Mirrorless to hopefully adress and not suffer from the same problems the R5 and R6 had with improved battery life etc.. and proper 4 k, ok not with 6hr, but an hour per clip would be a jump up and the overheating could be addressed with some kind of vent where you remove a rubber seal and air can get in and then when you're finished, you put the plug/stopper back in or cover back on. Canon are trying to get it under $1000 but at what sacrifices? I'd rather pay $1500 and have a camera that has less problems and more features.

@JustinMyersPhoto 3 жыл бұрын
@@mandofan2616 I’m not sure what you’re comparing the R5/R6 battery life to, but I definitely don’t consider that a problem. In fact, they do quite well when it comes to battery life. Question: why would you want a rubber seal? That’s going to add more problems with weather sealing, and a little extra exposure to ambient temperature in that way isn’t going to make a massive difference in heat performance by itself. The temperature of the camera would basically just turn that opening into a heat sink. I do think Canon is learning from missteps from previous camera body iterations. That’s why each camera release in the R series has been more impressive than the last. I would not however expect the sub $1,000 camera to outperform the more expensive cameras, especially with the R5 and R6 being such great performing cameras. I would also point out, that if you would rather pay $1,500 than $1,000 for more features….they already have that option. That’s why they make multiple cameras

@@JustinMyersPhoto I like the 5D type body they used for R5 and R6, more sturdy. Battery life tests vary, I guess if you use the LCD a lot etc. USB and mics etc are covered by pull out rubber cover and maybe something like that where there was a vent with pin holes to let hot air escape, but you would only use this indoors obviously or outdoors in dry conditions.
@JustinMyersPhoto
@JustinMyersPhoto 3 жыл бұрын
@@mandofan2616 I wouldn’t expect them to go with the bigger camera body for the budget camera. The small size of the RP was a large part of its popularity. Having holes for air vents like that would have to go all the way to the sensor, which is the most delicate part of the camera and requires a lot of protection. Even if rubber flaps could provide enough protection for the sensor though, it would take more to cool down the camera than the extra air holes could provide. More heat resistant components is probably the best, and more likely, future solution

@@JustinMyersPhoto The huge 1.7x crop down from FF in 4k, the lack of DPAF in 4k, and much more rolling shutter in 4k than in other cameras (only the Sony APS-C cameras are worse in that mode). The M6 MkII costs less money, it has a 4k mode with DPAF (that works better than the RP btw, newer version of DPAF), and it has less rolling shutter. The benefits of buying a full frame camera for video just aren't there with the RP. The M6 MkII makes more sense (again, for video).
@EugeniaLoli
@EugeniaLoli 4 жыл бұрын
@@JustinMyersPhoto Sorry, but I completely disagree with you. At "that price range" 4k should be a given. Panasonic has been offering 4k in all of their cameras since 2016. So has Sony since 2017. Yes, the M6 has a 1.6x crop, but the RP is supposed to be a full frame camera. That's why it originally cost $400 more. Also, the M6 does 4k *with* DPAF, which makes it many times more useful when on the go. The idea that you have to buy a cinema camera just to get 4k is preposterous in today's day and age. As to if 4k is needed or not, I can tell you that if you're shooting narratives, or even other kinds of fluff videos that include people, you're constantly finding yourself reframing. I personally employing that a lot (and Hollywood also does it all the time too, it's not a common practice). So you need 4k to do that. In cinema cameras with better quality you can do that with 2.8k too (as with the Alexa), but for cheaper cameras like the ones we're talking about here, you're better off with 4k. Granted, more than 4k is not needed, but 1080p is not enough for reframing. While I have access to medium format GFX 100, and true cinema cameras, I shot a crime short film 2 months ago with the M50 because I needed DPAF since I didn't have a DP due to covid (the m50 video-wise, is identical to the abilities of the RP == same limitations). Normally, I'd use my cinema camera, but this time, I had to rely on DPAF. Well, when I got to edit the damn thing, and tried to reframe certain shots, it really showed how soft it gotten. And consider I'm all for filmic softness (I avoid super-sharp clinical lenses). And yet, after reframing, that was TOO soft because the resolution was simply not there. So, no, I don't see the RP as a good value for modern video. The M6 MkII makes more sense in that case, if you want to get a cheap Canon. I wish I had the M6 MkII when I shot the short film in June.
@EugeniaLoli
@EugeniaLoli 4 жыл бұрын
@@JustinMyersPhoto I always upload to 4k, even if I shot in 1080p, because it looks way better on youtube when that 4k file is served. I DO need 4k, reframe, and re-export in 4k. Quality loss is not visible when reframing from a good 4k footage and finishing in 4k. And for THAT price, the RP should have had 4k with DPAF at the very least (even if it had to crop). I maintain that for video, and for its lower price, proper 4k with DPAF and less rolling shutter, the M6 makes more sense. No all shots are about having one person sitting on a chair where you can set focus and be done with it. That is not the case with short films that I shoot. To me, the RP is a crippled video camera (for the price). So let's agree to disagree.
@EugeniaLoli
@EugeniaLoli 4 жыл бұрын
@@JustinMyersPhoto This is true, BUT ONLY if you are NOT also reframing. If you are reframing, as I do, then you absolutely need to start from a 4k footage. I told you earlier: I shot an actual crime short film. Real actors, real locations, real lighting. Shot in 1080p because I needed AF, and that was the best camera I had for AF. And reframing and then exporting in 4k (or in 1080p) was VERY VISIBLY bad after reframing. It was super soft, of the bad kind (not the "pro mist filter" kind). While when you start from a 4k source, you can reframe and then export as you like, without these problems. I will never, ever buy again a 1080p camera. And I won't buy an 8k camera either. 4k is the sweet spot for what I do, EVEN if I export in 1080p (unlikely). I have time to export in 4k. Editing is not an issue, BRAW is super fast, for example. I got my lesson with the M50, so I'll be getting the Sony A7S III soon. Or at the very least, the new Canon ASP-C that is coming in October which has IBIS (if it has 10bit -- if not, I'll just get the best out there today, which for me is the Sony A7S III).
@EugeniaLoli
@EugeniaLoli 4 жыл бұрын
@@JustinMyersPhoto You are completely deflecting my arguments to things that I didn't mean. YES, I did say that FOR ME, for the FUTURE, the A7S III is great. But I ALSO said, for the sub-$1000 camera market, which this video is about, the M6 MkII is A BETTER camera than the RP for the exact reasons I explained earlier. True 4k that lets you reframe, DPAF, and less rolling shutter. For $200 LESS dollars than the RP. Instead, you took my simply COMPLEMENTARY piece of information I gave about *my* future camera, to turn it as an argument against the main argument we have right here. The A7S III part was NOT meant to be an argument against the RP. They are obviously in a different category. Remember what I wrote in my comment above: I WISH I HAD THE M6 MkII to shoot my film. ***That's the actual meat of this discussion.*** The very fact that the M6 MkII is a BETTER video camera than the RP that you suggested. The RP is nothing but an M50 video-wise. Which is a GENERATION OLDER in terms of video capabilities than the m6 mkii. And I provided REAL LIFE actual short film experience with it. It did NOT perform as I needed it to perform. Reframing is CONSTANT in the narrative film business. 4k (or 2.8k if you have an Alexa) is absolute minimum to get it to perform adequately after reframing and not lose PERCEIVABLE quality. 1080p does NOT cut it in that business. Back when Hollywood shot film, or had 1080p cameras, they were not reframing much exactly because they knew they couldn't get it to perform as required -- but they did WANT it to. Now, we can! But it needs 4k res to play that game. It makes a huge difference! I'm not going to reply here again. Bye.
