Linen is made from plant fiber; wool is made from animal fiber. Mixing them together makes for poor quality clothing because the fibers have different properties and expand and contract differently when wet or heated, and the shirt fibres will begin to loosen faster. You should not mix things that are not of the same kind, just like you don't have a horse mate with a cow, or have a donkey and an ox pull the same plow together since they have different sizes, strengths, and gaits, so the work will be inefficient and put extra strain on the animals.

I was thinking along the same lines, as well. There is a practical reason as to why you wouldn't sow 2 seeds or yoke 2 different beasts of burden. I hadn't considered the expansion and characteristic differences of the fibers. Great observation!

While there were practical reasons to these laws, there were also symbolic reasons for them. God was forging a nation and a people for Himself. The nations around them did many of these things as well as things that were sinful to a just God. He did not want His people to share a commonality with those around them. He wished for them to be kept separate and pure in His sight and the more they shared ways with the sinful nations around them, the more they were likely to accept ways that would lead them away from God. When creating a new law, it must be strictly kept or people wouldn't respect the law. It was the same with the new nation of Israel. Once the law and the culture was strongly established, punishment could be mitigated, and mercy shown. The coming of Jesus Christ is God's mercy, not only for the Jews, but for all the world. Now, we do not have to be punished if we repent and accept God's mercy by believing in His Son. The law still exists, and punishment is still necessary, but Jesus paid the cost of our sin. But even Christians are to be kept separate from the world despite its inclusivity and acceptance of all peoples of every race or color. We are only visiting while our actual citizenship belongs to heaven. Does this make more sense?

2003 scientist Heidi Yellen did research on fabrics. Both wool and linen are at 5000 mHz, which is healing for the body. Other fabrics are much lower, even many at near 0. Interestingly the direction of wool and linen's frequency go at different directions causing them to zero each other out when worn together.... i love when science and archeology confirm God's word.

Well, there's also the fact that the things which were done or used in the temple were not supposed to be used in the profane world. The Temple veil and High Priest's clothes were made of mixed cloth. Restricting people from wearing clothing similar to the High Priest and the temple veil ensured separation between the sacred space of the Temple and the profane world. Christ, as the Great High Priest, is entitled to be clothed in that cloth, especially as the veil in part symbolizes His body, and the Church as the new temple is worthy to contain it.

Linen is a fabric that is set apart for making the clothing for Temple priests. Wool was for everyday wear. That means it is NOT set apart. Mixing the common with the set apart defiles that which is set apart. Leviticus 22:15. Some animals were created to be eaten. Some were created to be garbage trucks for the land. Obeying YHVH's instructions protects us from the filth that is captured by the garbage trucks. Peter's own interpretation of the vision was that he should call no human unclean. It was NOT a license, nor a suggestion, to adopt pagan culture. There are only 2 kinds of religious observances; the Feasts of YHVH, which are prophetic shadows of the Messiah, and manmade feasts that honor pagan gods. Renaming pagan feasts to honor Jesus does not diminish the honor bestowed upon the pagan gods. It only reduces Jesus to their level. Jesus is the Passover Lamb, not the Easter ham. Paul told Timothy that the Scriptures he had from his youth were the instructions in righteousness. The Scriptures he had from his youth were the Torah and the Prophets. The Torah protects us from pagan rituals and culture. The Law shows us how YHVH wants us to behave. It is what pleases him. The Law is called the Way. Jesus obeyed the Law perfectly. He walked according to the Way. That is why He said, "I am the Way, the truth and the life." Following Jesus is obeying the Law. The one a person obeys is their Master. Romans 6:15-16. Obeying the Law Jesus obeyed leads to life. Obeying Rome leads to death.

doug wilson had an interesting interpretation of this.. he said that in the navy bootcamp, they made you fold your t shirt in a very specific way. they'd be around for inspection every morning, and punish you if your t shirt wasn't correct. was boot camp the place we learned that the navy was insane and arbitrary? no. boot camp was the place that the navy learned whether we could follow instructions with a t-shirt. the concept that reality has rules that are clear and concise, and that they would fractally extend into everything from agricultre to time measurement to speech makes total sense, including the bit at the end where you take a break... it's represented by the fool card in tarot, for instance, or the sign of pisces in the zodiac.

@@foolfether by my Reckoning, Saturn is in Pisces now. If you follow the narrative Arc, Capricorn represents the conflict. That would be covid, and exposure of government censorship. Aquarius is the fruits of that conflict, which would be the information that we acquired as a result of dealing with all of that. And then Pisces is the end of the cycle, which is some form of resolution and the catalyzing of a new identity. Of course, it's going to manifest individually slightly differently, but the same narrative Arc applies. Identity, conflict, solution, reintegration of identity. Putting that in the sphere of Saturn puts it on a 10-year tempo spanning from 2016 to 2026.

Mixed goods are harder to take care of. Cotton is better than ablended clothing item. Petroleum based fabrics are scary as if rhey catch fire they melt creating dangerous plastic residues that burn horribly. Wool is now made easily in different weights for all seasons. So is linen for clothing. It all makes sense, if you wear non-blended woven clothes and stick to all cotton jeans and socks and undergarments. You can wear a linen shirt with a fresh light weight with that jean item. No problem. But don't mix when weaving. "Synthetic" with natural. When one learns to quilt you learn these things. Batting of polyester creates horrible burns. use all cotton batting. All cotton fabric for the top and backing. 😊

@foolfether
@foolfether Жыл бұрын
i think it's impossible to find a proposition in the Bible saying so, because on and on you find passages that seem to contradict each other, and a proposition is logical. but you can find clues for the phenomenological approach. for instance, the Bible seems to say that the earth is flat, and it's not (i checked, haha); or that you can bred coloured animals if you put certain wood in front of them.
@MicahMicahel

@@foolfether I think you're talking about when it says the four corners of the earth? is that right? well it also says teh Earth is a circle, so if it's a circle the corners don't make sense. This means the four corners is an expression of far distance rather than a statement that the earth is a square. Other than that the bible doesn't suggest the earth is flat. where is the animal colour breeding script? There aren't any contradictions in the bible. There are what is called apparent contradictions. Example: there were two madmen in the cave howling but in the other gospel there was only one madman. It's because the other madman wasn't mentioned. People think that's a contradiction but when you tell a story about something you did with your friend, you might not include the other friend. That doesn't make your story untrue.
@foolfether

@@MicahMicahel yes, that's what i meant, that they seem to contradict, but the contradiction is only apparent. and that's why the Bible must be read phenomenologically. again the example of the flat earth: in genesis 1 it says that there were two layers of water above. it doesn't matter if earth was surrounded by a bubble that was split into two, but that it says that those layers were above not around the earth. so genesis is not a scientific tell but probably what moses saw in a vision, not as an outsider but from the point of view of someone standing on the earth.

People are so tied to pork, shellfish and bottom feeders merely for their own selfish desires and pagan customs -- it's disgusting. Quit eating it - it's not that hard. Now the actual facts in context. The thread was hand-spun and hand-loomed. European thread was spun on the wheel after C12. "Minute traces of cotton fibers were discovered" an indication that the Shroud was woven on a loom also used for weaving cotton. (The use of equipment for working both cotton and linen would have been permitted by the ancient Jewish ritual code whereas wool and linen would have been worked on different looms to avoid the prohibited "mixing of kinds.") The cotton was of the Asian Gossypum herbaceum, and some commentators have construed its presence as conclusive evidence of a Middle Eastern origin. While not common in Europe until much later. All three test samples came from a single swatch of cloth cut from near the edge of the cloth rather than by random sampling.12 This area near the edge has anomalous weave patterns compared to the larger body of the cloth. Cotton fibers are mixed with linen in the radiocarbon samples, while the main body of the cloth is entirely linen. Moreover, cotton fibers appeared encrusted with pigment that nearly matches the color of the cloth.13 Altogether, samples used for the radiocarbon tests differ significantly from the main body of the cloth and suggest the samples came from a corner of the cloth that had been repaired by weaving cotton into the linen."

If it was in fact in Ireland the Romans would not have let something as small as the Irish Sea get in their way. Look what they did to Jerusalem and Masada (at about the same time). People are also often unaware that the Roman Navy dominated the waters around Britain until about AD 300, and that the King of Orkney was a vassal of Rome as early as the reign of Claudius. Indeed, a petition from the King of Orkney was used as a casus belli for Agricola's campaign against the Caledonii. Given that the Druids were seen as an institutional threat to Roman authority in Britain, Ireland wasn't nearly far enough from Rome's reach. (There's also archaeological evidence of Roman trade with Ireland in the form of harbours excavated a couple of decades ago, but publishing is woefully lackadaisical in Ireland - I'm still waiting for the Viking Age Dublin Leather Work and Bone & Antler volumes to be published 😢)

So, let's just look at one of your examples. Festivals. God calls them HIS appointed times/feasts/festivals. So according to you Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles which is a time God set apart to meet with His people is no longer valid? Yet in Leviticus, it says that keeping Sukkot is a statute forever. And in Zechariah, it says Sukkot will be celebrated every year in the millennial reign. How about diet: Peter was still keeping Kosher in Acts when he had his vision. Why do Christians only want to keep the Ten Commandments and tithing from the OT? And even then we don't keep the Sabbath holy, because we changed the Sabbath to Sunday. Don't you think Jesus would have mentioned that a number of times, so we would know we were supposed to change from Saturday to Sunday? We are grafted into the Jewish tree. And because we are a part of the same tree, we have the same roots. Jesus is our example of how to live. He didn't eat unclean animals, He kept His Father's feasts, He rested on Saturday, etc.

Another question: Peterson and others write that genesis 1 is a combination of two stories which existed before the genesis we know now was written. There is proof of these stories existing which are similar but different. How could similar stories exist merge and than create genesis if Moses was the first one to get to know genesis? The answer is that they don't know that. The idea that genesis is a combination of preexisting accounts merged together is an ad hoc explanation that the secular world latches onto because they apriori rejected the idea that moses wrote it himself, or that a historical Moses actually existed. They do this not because there is truly strong evidence, but because if Moses did write genesis as it is ascribed then that doesn't bode well for many secular theories that they'd like to be true. And for even Christian scholars most bend the knee to the secular timeliness in order to avoid being canceled in some degree, or another

This interview is well done but Acts 10 is not talking about pork is clean and acceptable to eat. Acts 10 is about how gentles are able to be saved and Peter shouldn’t call people unworthy of the gospel. The vision was later taken in to consideration and referenced in Acts 15 when gentile association with Jews was under consideration. The context of chapter 10 specifically verse 28 is about people not food. As stated this section is referenced later in acts 15 and carries more weight on heavier implications there. The law won’t save you but the law is a good teacher. I got to keep Passover and unleavened bread this year for the first time. I learned a lot. In removing leavening from my home and my diet, I realized it’s in almost everything and in scripture leaven is symbolic of sin. It was a great reminder that I go above my days with sin around me and in me, how much do I tolerate or shrug off. Our Messiah was the perfect Passover lamb and died for our sins. It’s a beautiful reminder. There are many strange and beautiful things that we have ignored in the OT for too long.

hey the idea of not mixing together wool and Linn is explained by the 11th century Jewish scholar Bahya ibn Paquda as injunction against mixing together conflicting material's (and the same goes for the mixing of seeds and interbreeding of animals) and to keep the order of nature. (according to kabbalah wool represents kindness and linen represents strength) the question that follows is that if the torah was given to make peace in the world, shall we not say the opposite and intentionally mix the different fabrics in an attempt to unify the "fabric" of the world? we can answer that since the form of these fabrics are no longer in the abstract rather in the physical representation, we can't unify them without risk, since one aspect of creation is the constriction of the forms in to being, being itself places a barrier between itself against all other creations. i.e. a byproduct of creation is that each unique creation is bound by its physical manifestation and can't be brought together with opposing creations.

Lambs wool is also prestigious so... The High Priests wore the finest all weather garments, linen and fine woo, mix is the best survival gear, it warms cools and breaths.

In the bronze age, mixing wool and linen would have created a conflict of interest between the wool producers and linen producers *which would have led to physical conflict and bloodshed* . Imagine switching the labels on Apple and Samsung stock. Or bottling Coke and Pepsi in the same container and selling it as generic "cola". You'd ruin both companies, stockbrokers would be jumping out of windows, fired executives would go home and shoot their families then themselves, thousands of people would lose their jobs, leading to domestic violence, child abuse, divorce, loss of homes etc. So you can see why mixing fabrics was the death penalty. As for pork and shellfish, they are filthy. It's not spiritually important not to eat them anymore, but why eat something that eats it's own shit?!?

The distinctions between things in the Torah (Law), whether it was two types of seeds or two types of fabric or two types of animals (clean/unclean) had to do with Israel and the nations (gentiles) being seperated and not mingled together due to the demonic worship of the nations and the worship of the true God in Israel. The cloth that covers the Eucharist in the Church is of a mixed fabric indicates that now that Christ has come the wall of partition between Jew and Gentile has been removed and both are now one in Christ. This is why God told St. Peter in Acts, when showing him all sorts of unclean animals, that he should not call unclean what God had cleansed and St. Peter, a Jew, tells Cornelius, a Gentile, that God has showed him that he should call no _man_ unclean. It all had to do with the wall of partition that St. Paul speaks of in Ephesians between Israel and Gentiles being in place until Christ when it would be torn down. Salvation has now gone out to the Gentiles with the preaching of the Gospel.

There are real world reasons for the food laws. Pigs will eat practically anything and toxins accumulate in their fat. Trichinosis--pigs carry it and there is no cure if you catch it. Pork has high levels of histamine. God promised the Israelites if they followed his rules they would not have the medical problems the egyptians had. The cleanliness rules made a major difference in mortality thru the plagues of the middle ages. True to His word, overall have been healthier over time. The rules are not symbolic, but you can see them that way if desired. Consider also that the pig is sacred in MANY pagan religions.

This is my personal theory so please check this out for yourself. Food laws in the Bible were there to protect the health of the Jewish people. Even with modern food hygiene, shellfish can be risky to eat. Even in the modern world with refrigeration, better hygiene and stringent food regulations, shellfish can still be dodgy. If it is served at a party on a buffet, I don't touch it. Pork is another one. Pigs can be a vector for tapeworm, even nowadays. Fortunately, in modern society, farming practices and exacting food hygiene regulations greatly reduce the risk. In the past, this wasn't the case. This is just my thoughts on the matter. I am sure God knows better, take His word for it, not mine.

I personally don't try to justify why YHWH has deemed certain things clean or unclean. @@rosieclarkson4064 look. This argument only exists, because Jews are a cultural institution in America. Pork was never a serious problem in terms of individual health for the ancient world. People fed pigs the most unsightly of things before eating them, and were fine. There are no more serious concerns to eating pork than there are to eating eggs or kosher fish. American Jews really want the Torah to be a way to make you healthy happy and wholesome, but that was never the point. Scripture doesn't say that's the point. We have no reason to believe that was the point. Of all the major civilizations, the only one that purposefully didn't eat pork was the Egyptians, and that was because of the nature of their water supply. Not because pork makes you sick. There are real animals that hurt your health to eat, and civilized nations actually legitimately don't eat those. Pigs are not one of them Kosher is about obedience. _not_ health

The surface level reading is simply to set Israel apart from its neighbors. Like in the book of Daniel in Babylon the Jews were literally set aside during many meals because of their adherence to the Law of Moses. It doesn't like much but that is a means to showcase who are God's people and that allowed, or was supposed to allow, for the Jews to be the light of the world prior to Christ. Obviously, they failed, but we gained Jesus so we are all the better for it.

The point of the “unclean” being declared by God to be “clean” was that the barrier between Jew (the set-apart) and the Gentile (the profane) had been destroyed at the Cross. In Christ, the distinctions male/female, Jew/Gentile, slave/free could not be an impediment to knowing God. There’s a letter in the New Testament written by the apostle Paul to a believer named Philemon. While he was in prison (in Rome), Paul made the acquaintance of a runaway slave named Onesimus. Paul shared the Gospel with him, and Onesimus became himself a believer. Paul writes to Philemon to receive his slave as “no longer a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother.” (verse 16) My aim is not to make a commentary on slavery and its history/ethics. The point is that, in a very substantial way, in Christ such distinctions no longer apply since all believers are equal under the title “Christian.”

Most animals won't even reproduce a viable animal when bred to another species. When I plant 2 different types of squashes too close together, I'm ok the first year, but when I planted the saved seed the next year, my squash ended up being a strange hard inedible squash. So, I think it is important so seeds and animals can continue to reproduce. And also, so we would know that gmo's are probably not healthy for us. 🤔

This mixing leads to such evil and though mixing seeds Isn't as evil as what it has become, Wasn't it the mixing of seeds with the nephilim that started this concept of all we Can Do What god has told us not to do will be fine......... He was talking about how each sphere on the kabbalistic tree of life is a vessel that contains the energies that manifest creation. Everything that exists in our world originates in these spheres/vessels. The ancient Hebrews made their entire lives a ritual. By separating everything into its appropriate category, each category of the creative cosmic energies is experienced in its uncorrupted pure form. I think of it as participation in the creation of the new heaven and earth that was fully catalyzed with the incarnation of Christ.

I don't understand the part where you say you don't listen to Paul; but yes, Saturday is the day. The apostles were still keeping Sabbath and they weren't eating unclean animals. God's law does not change.

@@kam2162 Hi! Paul is hard to understand. For me he is like listening to a lawyer. Peter even said so in about 2Peter 3:14 14Therefore, beloved, as you anticipate these things, make every effort to be found at peace-spotless and blameless in His sight.f 15Consider also that our Lord’s patience brings salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave him. 16He writes this way in all his letters,g speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are HARD TO UNDERSTAND, which ignorant and unstable people distort,h as they do the rest of the Scriptures, TO THEIR OWN DESTRUCTION. 17Therefore, beloved, since you already know these things, be on your guard so that you will not be carried away by the error of the LAWLESS and fall from your secure standing. Many people think that they can believe what they want in the confusion and boy do they get mad if you tell them you dont listen to paul. Especially ministers. I ask them, "What did Paul give us that Jesus didnt?" Probably about 20,000 denominations. I love Jesus. I dont know paul except that he is from the tribe of Benjamin which has a bad reputation. I think Ive found clues in what Jesus said hinting that Paul was coming and not for good. But I dont follow through with them. Only in discussions I might bring them up. It's not necessary to speak against him further. I simply dont listen to him. If I call him a liar and Im mistaken then I false witnessed against him. Im Matthew 7:21 Jesus basically says there will be Christians that will be condemned. He ends it by saying, "...I never knew you." I wondered for years what he meant. I found it! John 10:27 My sheep listen to my voice; I KNOW them, and they follow me. So, I am happy to follow The Good Shepherd. I need no other.

@@Hbmd3E A tad hyperbolic perhaps, looking back xD Well basically, I've been reading a lot of history lately, particularly parts of it that are really interesting to me, namely those parts of history that deal in sacred things, in mysticism, religion, ritual, theatre, etc. and I can't help but notice that its always Christians who celebrate the destruction of these things, both at the time, while they're the ones doing it, and today, when normal Christian people can look back on numerous genocides and say, "good, burn them, burn them all, filthy idolatrous savages". Many such cases, and I began to feel disgust towards Christianity. Now I listen to channels I've loved and followed for years, like this one, and I hear endless bitter ironies and ignorant hypocrisies - Christians who kicked over Jacob's ladder, and dance in the heavens on a mound of corpses. They think they are good, and all else is bad. It's appalling. How many beautiful records can I not study because Christians decided to burn them? Do these men think genocide is good? My answer is: probably not, but I'm not sure, because they are Christians, and I wouldn't put it past Christians to think genocide is good, because many of them truly do think that, even now.

Really didn't get the meaning of Peter's vision. It was not about food but about the Gentiles receiving God's word. That is not why Christians eat pork... They chose that meaning you stated.

The one wherein G_d said: “yah, EAT.” I always took that to mean: ‘break bread with thine fellow humans. Do not be snobby or up-ity with people kind enough to share their feast. Be a good guest, and by all means sit at dinner with people who don’t follow the exact same rules the exact same way that you do. Sharing a table, sharing a meal, sharing down-time and conversation: that conviviality is more important than dietary restrictions… when you return to your house, your tent, your tribe, then refrain from eating pork. But here now at this VERY special feast, participate. Eat.’ (That’s my own interpretation, my own head-cannon, though.)

that table cloth vision is always out of context. it was about acepting non jews into the resurection of christ, nothing to do with food law! we so rarely here this, thankyou. i thought the wool and linnen thing was common sense, so as not to cause stattic when you wear them, which does happen.

It was also figurative of mixing pagan with true worship which they kept returning to over and over again. There are plenty of examples recorded for us of how God felt about the hebrews using pagan ways to worship him. He called it adulterous prostitution. It did not bode well for them. Something to think about for Christians who tolerate blended doctrine and holidays with pagan origins.
