The BEST feature coming in War Thunder's 'Alpha Strike' Update...

How could this one little feature be a HUGE change to War Thunder? The F-20A Tigershark is cool and all but I'm all the Alpha Jets. But CAS planes are about to buffed in a big way, just not the way you might expect.

The fuel slider appears to go from minimum load (30%) to full load (100%) which is probably why 50% is off center

You can bind WEAPON OPTICS, TARGETING OPTICS, EXTERNAL VIEW all to the same button and they will operate like SNIPER VIEW (SHIFT) in ground. Pressing once will either go into the weapon's camera, or default to a targeting pod (if you have one) and pressing it a second time goes back to external view.

Yea i use this truck too! Same with most of my weapon locking keybinds, all set to one button. Many people have a closed mind, thinking you can only put one specific keybind to one function. But you can put multiple functions on one keybind and/or multiple keybinds to one function.

@@VEX_INC Can get kinda hairy though if you got multiple targeting weapons lol. I have my Missile to ground and air lock and fire to the same keys. It only haves with certain loadouts. But i was dropping a GBU, then went to dog fight and i fired a missile and dropped my other GBU lol. So thats where i then started using weapon selector.

yea but not really and not like that. you had to point your plane in the direction of the lock and guess where the lock indicator is. With this would can fly perpedicular to the target and lock it and fire and don't have to guess where the lock will be. It's MUCH better.

i use the F-16C for CAS, war thunder has made CAS so easy its not even funny. But with this new Maverick system it just makes it easier. Also, Mavericks are meant for 3-7 miles, not 1-3.

The F-20 was meant to be the “Modern” equivalent of the F-5. A cheap option for American allies who couldn’t afford the Teen Series fighters and their advanced ground crew training and the high per flight hour costs. It was considered a great plane and probably would have been really successful. But GD had zero interest in losing out those sales and came up with a dirt cheap package for the F-16A and all the back up bits. That was the end of the F-20 program.

@@ashrodrigues3571lower brs, mainly literally anything before radar SPAA's are a absolute joke to try to play SPAA's and try to kill CAS, worst it got for me was 6.7 ground and just kind of kept getting worser but it was tolerable because of better SPAA's, but still with the pantsir s1, CAS is still a issue. far too easy for the reward.

The new third person targeting also works for all TV weapons like the GBU 8. The A10a premium gets the TV guided GBU. Paveways are the laser guided bombs and both A10’s in game can’t carry them or a lighting targeting pod to use them

Post-Patch watcher here: Haven't tried the new AGM system, but it looks like they might be a little better if you loosely lock with the free-cam thing, then switch to the TGP to make finer adjustments so that it hits precisely on target.

50% fuel not being half way along the slider actually makes sense since the bottom of the bar (or rather the left of the bar) is not 0%. This way, the bar gives you a clear picture of how much of your discretionary fuel you're taking. If you put 50% in the middle, that would be a little confusing, as either you're slider would have to have a different sensitivity on one side of 50% to the other, since you've got 30%-50% on the left, and 50%-100% on the right, so different ranges, or you'd have a section of slider that you simply couldn't actually use on the left.

TV missiles, like the mavericks, are the most expensive to spawn anyway. But not used much (unless assited by targeting pods). So now, they will get more usage.

@PanzerPaw what the devs said back then was not that they would never add “top tier premiums”, it was that and I’m quoting pretty much what they stated; that they will “never add maximum BR premium vehicles” This is from that specific devblog/news post regarding implementation of premiums. This is not a maximum BR vehicle since it is not 12.7 so this does still fit their ruling.

Around the time of never adding top Rank premiums they added vehicles that were a rank below top rank. Now that it’s been switched to top BR since some time 2023 I still have yet to see such a discrepancy.

Sort of. The seeker lock box was there but not the TV window bracket. That's the new thing that also means you can control where the TV sight in 3rd person before switching to it.

The F-20 is DOA for air RB and a total scam by gaijin. It might get the broke af dm that the F-5C first had, but it's gonna see constant uptiers with Gripens, Su-27s, F-16s etc. that will absolutely annihilate it. Only idiots dumb enough to turnfight it (not that many at top tier) will find themselves on the losing end. Inferior missiles and gun too. The F-5C is still the superior US grinder for getting to top tier

with 3 helis now having fire and forget agm's, the apache longbow should get it's hellfires. they would behave the exact same as spikes and pars, except the hellfires can reacquire the target. also, the F-20 being 12.0 is going to be amazing for top tier players, easy grinding. i almost have the flanker, went from early rank 4 to the flanker entirely during this jaguar event, so that stock grind will be so easy.

7:33 F-16 is infact older than the F-20. You may notice this as 16 is less than 20. The entire point of the F-20 was to get the European sales the F-16 ended up getting.

You can lock on like this in game now with the laser in 3rd person. Its not very easy because the laser points a few feet below the gun sight. So you can lock and shoot 3rd person with mavericks still. You just have to get used to aiming above the target. When u lase you will see the dot, then lase again to compensate when you get the laser on target you get a lock. I think the big catch is yyoy need to maintain the lase to get yhe hit, i dont think you can lock multiple targets effectively. It will work in a quick pinch when your used to it. Im not claiming to be any expert by any means either. Just wanted to share my experience. Im still learning plenty

Laser bombs are my go to weapon when I don't have enough spawn points in the match (cheaper than TV). And I use it for high altitude precision bombing and not low level dive bombing.

ATG is better from far out. Then look to where the enemy is, hit the designator key. It will tell the camera to look there. Then go into the cam mode and its looking in the general area. That way you arent scrolling with your mouse looking for enemies. Im sure the way you did it is nice. But doesnt seem like youre getting a good lock.

Small question, when you mention at 08:55 "that is the wrong one" (lock I assume?) what was your mistake? So what did you activate by accident in exact terms and what should you have activated? Asking since I still have a lot of trouble correctly locking air 2 ground stuff and I feel like thats a mistake I probably already did or would likely do.

Why does the s2b require a data link pod to carry those missiles.....will you be able to manually guide the missiles in? If not then ehats the data link pod for?

I'm assuming that's just how those missiles connect to the plane for the TV signal but I don't really know for sure.

No because its directly connected on the rail. the idea was to fire the missile from beyond visual range and the rio in the back seat could link with the missile while it was in flight and using the tv camera in the missile make adjustments. So as the target came into view....then it was locked onto. I get in game it would be a bit bs to fire a missile at 30k from complete safety. Then jump between keeping the plane in map and back to missile guidence to seek out and target someone as the missile flies. But since we cant do that the data link pod is completely useless. Im ok with not making adjustments once the missile leave plane. But that data link pod takes up a slot for.....well another missile. I think my 2 mai load outs will be. 2 missiles + aim9L. And a 2 laser guided bomb. Pod and aim9L. Dont think ill bother with the bomb bay. Dumb drop bombs at top tier are pretty hard to use with how good spaa is.

Ill be honest, none of those capabilities are new. Going in the sight for the agm65bs is better because you get thermals and can see the sams from further away. Its easy to kill sams at 8+kms even with the a models

IIRC the F-20 was designed to be a cheaper alternative to the F-16, but it wasn't that popular on the export market.

This feature already existed, there is no buff, its just a change CAS isn't easy and there is no CAS dominance in the game You literally can't GBU anything from 40km. You can try your best with GBU-8 and GBU-15 (And Walleye if you are brave) but literally past certain distances the laser guidance doesn't work and GBUs don't glide TV guidance also doesn't track moving targets over certain distances either. Maverick missiles are EASY to destroy if SPAA player is not braindead. Your best bet is to try to do surprise attacks, all those videos where you watch people get 5/5 kills with Mavericks by flying over the battlefield doesn't represent the average gameplay, those happen very rarely and because of bad VERY BAD SPAA. Pantsir/FlaRak denies air-spawns instantly up to ranges of 20km - jets that can outrange pantsir are uncommon and since they now put clouds all over the most maps its almost impossible to try to do 20km PGM or Maverick shots, and not to mention Pantsir can just shoot those missiles down There is nothing easy about CAS at this very moment. Please stop, this is not healthy behavior. Please stop whining like a baby until things go your way. I don't know what do you guys keep crying about CAS, i know that your degenerate youtuber cry about it daily but goddamn, its not the reality you think. I'll pay you 50$ for every succesful CAS you can do with the F20.

ground RB stopped being easy for planes at 8.3. there is a reason why when you play below 8.3 you easily see twice the CAS in a match. because 8.3 planes have absolutely no defense against AA.
