As a fitter I've found this competes against the 770 not the 790. It's in the same weird spot the 770 is. I find the type of customer that plays the 770, and now the apex pro, play the zx7, t100/150, 223, king tour, and such just as well with better feel since they aren't hollow body heads. I didn't feel like they helped any more on off center hits than my zx7s, and didn't feel as nice either. I was getting the same distances as well. I'm gonna be hard pressed to get these into any customers hands over 790 and t200 if they need distance, and if they don't I can't see them choosing these over forged heads.

I can't say about the Pro:s but I have hit the Apex CB:n and they do feel better than my Z785:s, which I love. P790 is nowhere near same level and so isn't P770 what comes to feel. I have hit both of those. Btw I would have traded my 785:s already to the ZX7 but the thicker topline doesn't look nice to my eye.

So i fitted an hit the Pros very well with a 7i swing speed of 93-94mph. Yeah they are going to take off a couple degrees of loft and i need some different shafts..but they worked well for me..hopefully it stays that way

Looks like they have targeted the Mizuno Jpg range of combos and Srixins ZX. Looks like they have done a pretty good job, mix Ping i230,i525, G430 would look like you. had 3 different fittings on 3 days Good review again

I think what Callaway have done is bring it back to iron blending basics and that's by not going over board on the technology and changes in looks throughout the iron ranges. Something honestly I feel that all manufacturers could learn from and fingers crossed it could start the trend back to more sensible and closer matching lofting. 👍

Great review, Jay, unbelievable amount of data as always. What do you think of these compared to the 770s ?
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
Tough one a the P770's are very good, however on balance I think personally I'd give it to the Callaway...... but thats subjective and my opinion only 👍

Hi Jay. In terms of distance gapping what would expect for players distance irons? 12-15 yards? Would this be higher at the top end and lower down to the wedges or should it be the same throughout? Swinging at that average 85mph.
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, I have always basically fitted people on forgiveness requirements, launch requirements and then lofts depending on effective speed. So this head would actually be ok for anyone upper 70s to 90+ due to the reasonable lofting. For fastest players of anything around 90mph and beyond, normal players distance irons aren't on the cards due to their cracked lofts and loft gaps, so this is a really nice surprise 👍🏻

Not iron related but would appreciate some advice. After multiple lessons and using a Foresight we’ve observed I have a very consistent swing (1-2degrees in to out) but pore face control. Do you have any advice/training aids that you would recommend?
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
There's normally a contributing factor to poor face control, have you got your delivery numbers to hand? 👍🏻

Hi Jay, really appreciate the quality of your reviews. As a senior I have a slower swing speed and prefer a soft feeling iron. What are your thoughts on the 24 Apex Pro vs the Mizuno Pro 245? Thank you.

It's a great match up, main difference would be between the feel/sound of impact. It's an interesting comparison and one that I might look to do 👍🏻

what is the purpose of the four tiny stickers on the club head?
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
They are called HMT (Head Measuring Technology) dots well actually they are technically called something different but fiducials sounds silly 😁 They allow thd GCQuad to track the club head coming into impact to give all the measured club head data that I provide for thd viewers to see and also allows me to do all the forgiveness data that I do 👍🏻

I've never been a huge Callaway guy but I have to give credit to them for this line. It's nice to be able to blend a set without worrying about adjusting lofts or carrying 2 of the same iron but different models. Do you think this is a better hollow body iron for faster swingers? It seems like they didn't dump the cog too low.
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
I think that many manufactures could really look at what Callaway have done here and turn the industry back to sensible lofting for all irons. This iron could work very well for a golfer swinging anywhere between 75 to 90+ mph. Anyone swinging less than 75mph would see possibly too small distance gaps between irons. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

Much prefer this one to the old. Even with the Black Back Plate 😊😊

I play the previous version and 7 iron thru 5 iron are a bit clicky to me. Do you think the performance has improved with the new model, distance and forgiveness wise?
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
Marginally at best being honest, rarely does a model change massively push the needle that far. Although sometimes small changes can make or break a decision so is definitely worth testing 👍🏻

Do you have to have considerable swing speed to play the pro model?
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
No I think that anyone with mid 70's to 90+ mph could play the Pro model. anyone lower than mid 70's would seriously have to consider the distance gaps between irons as they may well be too close 👍
@zazhou Жыл бұрын
Hi, distance gaps for slower swing speed golfers will obviously be smaller than for higher speed golfers (laws of physics and maths) for any set of irons. Yes, it is true that for slower swing speeds one should try and maintain close to four degrees of difference in loft between clubs for good and even gapping. One of the few benefits of slower swing speed is the closer gapping between clubs, so you are more likely to be closer to the pin on approach shots when in-between clubs!

The manufacturers are trying to confuse the customer. Players irons- some blade some cavity, both no offset or some offset. Reveiws do ignorant things comparing GI sets vs players cavities. For "CB comparison". The USGA and/or PGA need to legeslate categories. Currently it appears manufacturers are just making things up.
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
Agreed that things could be simplified. Basically I've always fitted through the needs of Forgiveness, Launch requirements and then Loft gapping through speed related selection. I think if manufacturers stopped calling them Game Improvement and more so Distance Irons then things could become a little more transparent 👍🏻

Jay, Another awesome review ! Can I email you 4 screenshots of my trackman data of my 7 iron (Feb 2023) and driver (September 2023). Small sample of my shots from my fitting. I have one slight mishit on each sample. 7 iron: T100S - 1/2 in. Short at 34.5 inches. Tensei AMT red Regular flex. These are high launch/high spin shafts. At 81 mph average club speed. Landing angle is slightly below 45 degrees, my concern is my shafts are already high launching high spin yet I’m still below 6000 rpm back spin. Don’t won’t go change shafts next season but may have to try something else Driver : TSR3 HZRDS Red CB 6.0 50g shaft. B1 hosel setting. 45.5 inches standard length. At 96 mph average head speed I’m borderline between regular and stiff flex. My fitter recommended I go with stiff in driver and fairway woods so I don’t miss left. Please provide your email address Thanks Stephen

@@AskGolfNut Jay please look above in my first comment. My main concern is 7 iron and the graphite shafts TENSEI red AMT.
