Same here! I’m fortunate enough to be dealing with and making videos with cattle. I love his videos about pigs though for sure.

I completely agree with you on how hard it is to keep goats in. I raised them for years. I finally went with 5ft" woven wire horse fence. supplemented with a couple strands of hot wire and my specially made goat proof locks for the gates. Never had a problem with anyone getting out or anyone getting. I love your videos too by the way. I always try to watch as soon as I see the notification.

First of all, thanks for watching! And yeah I just had around 15 boer x kikos and luckily we are kind of in the middle of nowhere or else every time they got on the road they would have caused an accident. I eventually ended up using a 3 strand electric fence in front of the barbed wire fence and that seemed to do the trick (most of the time).

@@FarmandHammer You're welcome, I like to support my fellow Missourian! I think goats have a gene that makes them expert escape artists. :D

I remember the winter of 93 the snow Banks where as high as the fence we ended up putting up a hot wire for the sows to keep them an in it worked great
@FarmandHammer4 жыл бұрын
I’m hoping a hot wire will do the trick once they are big enough. Thanks for the advice!

Hello. Love your show. Pigs need more shade than the little dog house. They have outgrown it. You could use the roundbale thing and put a tarp over it so they could get under it. Or not. =)
@SasquatchBioacoustic4 жыл бұрын
Flip that hay ring on its top and strap a tarp over it. Your pigs will have some good shade when they're too big to fit into that little dog house.

How did u train ur pigs to the fencing ? Wondering if u don’t actually need a hard barrier around then and electric on the inside
@FarmandHammer3 жыл бұрын
Everyone online recommended training them with an electric inside a sturdy fence. But these I think were calm enough that they didn’t just hit the electric fence in a run so they backed up. I would say, if you want to be safe, use a barrier behind the electric fence to train them. But these did fine without it. Best of luck!

over 38 years breading pigs cows, steers , pigs are the easiest to keep in next to cows steers heifers, my whole farm just has one eletric 14ga wire run around the whole place and a bunch of split up areas with one wire. as for pigs of any size big or small one 14ga eletric wire run though the bush i huge areas, you train piglets in a small pen with one peace of 14ga electric wire 6 feet long 4 to 6" off the floor and with in a week they know not to go close to it, with one wire your not spending hundreds of dollars on a short 100" fence that one is way to small. and a lot of money spent that is not needed, in fact, i opened the wire for my sows and boar to move out of there winter living area, that leads them to the bush 2 days ago, and as of now they have yet to cross over, they walk up to were the wire was, and look around, but so far have not crossed over even for the pile of grain on the ground just 50 feet in.. i have 2 wooden gates that have never had electric on them, witch i use to move the sows out or in, they will cross that gate area in half hour at most.. , they dont cross as he has shown 99.9% of the time even at a 2 month old i have never put up any solid fence for my live stock other then chicken and turkey runs

So they are getting almost too big for it. A new structure is in the works! But if we get them into the woods, I don’t know for sure that they will even use it.

Do you add a source of water for them?
@FarmandHammer4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Currently we give them water in buckets 3 times a day (because they normally dump them over after they get a drink). We are currently working on an automatic pig nipple drinker so hopefully that will solve the problem.
@michael74234 жыл бұрын
Farm & Hammer / I recycled some food grade plastic. 55 gallon barrels with 4/5 pig nipple waterers and as long as they had water in them my pigs never tipped them over, one of the barrels still smells of pickles 😂 but the pigs don’t seem to mind the pickle scented water,
