He isn't. NRS decided to introduce the multiverse into MK mythology. So now there's both a male and female variant of Cyrax. There's also a female Johnny Cage called Janet. Genderswaps aren't the only things theyve done, there's other stuff like Sub-Zero is Scorpion now, Baraka isn't bad, some humans/sub-races aren't human or the same sub-race anymore, characters are related to eachother in different ways etc. But the original versions still exist. I'm meh on this multiverse stuff already, not cause I dont like different takes on characters but all the plots lead to the same endgame it seems, having versions fight eachother as the endgame. It boring already. Especially when you consider time travel plots also pretty much do the same thing just on a lesser scale.
