I’m no wheeler dealer! I’m just an enthusiast. And I get bored easily. I have been driving Porsche’s for 31 years and haven’t really paid much attention to how much I’ve spent over the years. I know that may sound not very smart, but I just feel fortunate that I have been so lucky to have all the fun I’ve had over the years. It’s been worth every penny. I live in America.

The 996, like the Boxster, can be a Porsche 'gateway drug'. As a former 996.2 4S owner, I know exactly how intoxicating that sound and driving experience can be. You'll have so many opportunities to make videos with the car, but that first drive is a special moment. Anyone who says a 996 isn't a proper Porsche is talking crap, and to me it's basically jealousy, because 996's seem quite desirable today. It's easy for people to talk about what Porsche they'd buy, but you've actually gone and done it. I actually agree. I picked up a 986 over a newer 987 Boxster last year because I wanted my first convertible and liked the simple interior and the 986/996 body lines a bit better. Now I’m looking at a 996.1 or a .2’s for my first 911 to go with it.

Enjoy! I had a 2000 C2 for 8 years or so. I can tell yours has the full leather - mine smelled awesome. With the short shift kit, beware of 2nd gear "pop out". And definitely check out the original Porsche 996 "welcome" video - fun to see!

As i said when i commented on your previous video, whilst no Porsche fan (I have a Genesis Electrified G80 - a large luxury EV saloon, which is all about Rolls Royce levels of refinement, and the latest car technology, so the opposite of what you were looking for!), but i have to say its great seeing someone who is genuinely excited about their new car! So many youtubers say that at last they've got their dream car only to change it for their next dream car in six months! Basically employing endless clickbaits, but its clear in the case of you and your husband, this is a car that is genuinely fufilling a dream, and that makes for refreshing content! Hi Lucy I’ve never owned a Porsche and probably never will, but it’s lovely to watch a video with so much joy in it. Several of the cars and motorbikes I’ve owned over the years have left me with that face-aching grin, so I know exactly where you’re coming from. I think you’ve bought a beautiful car. Nice people will be sharing in the joy with you. Silly people will bitch about what minutely different variation you should have bought. I think it might be the envy talking… I love watching British driving and riding videos. I think the car is cool, and the most important thing is what you think and how it makes you feel. so don't care about those people who think otherwise, it doesn't matter. also, I think Porsche know if it's a real Porsche or not, of course it is. it's demonstrably better than the 993 although a car purchase like this is mostly emotional I think. don't overthink the negative comments and focus on what makes you happy. When I was shopping for my first Porsche 911, I wanted a 996 C4 like yours. After many months I was not able to find one local to me. I ended up finding a 997.2 C4 so I had to snatch it. Been 5 years now and am totally enjoying it! I know you'll be enjoying yours. OMG that dinner you had, looks soo delicious!

I picked up a 996.2 C4S a year ago, it's such a fun car, raw with less driver aids. I made a few mods which I found made a big enough improvement. 1.) Momo steering wheel, I tried the mod 7 which I found was too far from the indicator stalks, the prototipo is the perfect one to use. Do get the eccentric spacer if you do this mod. 2.) Short shifter and a ball style shift knob 3.) Pccm+ for navigation. 4.) Once winters over I will be putting coilovers on.

Great cars. I had a 996.1 GT3 for many years which was by far the best car I've owned. I actually like the looks of the 996 and have never got some Porsche folks not liking the design of the front lights. Sports exhaust sounds great.

I’ve had a 993 4S, 997.2 , 968 CS , 944 and currently have a 996 Turbo, all have been great cars in their own way. Like others have said ignore the haters it’s a great car as entry into the world of 911’s, once you’ve got the bug you will never buy another marque !

I’ve had land rover’s ( love them 👍) , and now just got a little Fiat ( not an Abarth ) but has go faster stripes and tyre caps 😁👍… and well happy .. It’s like horses for courses suppose … a Porsche is a Porsche , a Range Rover a Range Rover and a fiat 🤔… I think to me feels like a bit like a landrover , seating position , gear stick etc, and being next to window , and a bit like it’s got heritage and character , and a unique experience 👍.. they are all fantastic thoroughbreds 👍.. thank you for doing vids of all these great cars .. but I’ll give the 0 to 40 mph big smile to the arbarth 😁.. 0 to big smile at any slow speed .. the landrovers 👍.. and the Porsche think it will bring a 0 to big smile even just parked up 🤔👍🤗👍.. it’s got lovely lines and colour .. and the nearest I got to buying a Porsche was a yellow I think 924 or 926 sport I think it was .. but got sold , and I bought a wee fiat X19 Bert one in metallic gold / bronze .. and omg what a fun drive that was 😮.. if you ain’t seen one lucy .. have a look at some you tube driving vids .. it’s like if Ferrari made a fiat , and Porsche made a Lamborghini 🙄🙄.. sort of all cars , that bring as much fun as the original mini .. a true thoroughbred an all .. and like the fiat 500 and Abarth .. the Porsche is world class heritage , world class design and technical marvel.. and in many ways evolved from humble beginnings as a peoples car .. and still are .. and much loved for being themselves .. and no compromise 👍.. I’ve had my 964 for 15 years. It was my daily driver for 5 years, it now lives an easier life. The perception of it being a ditch finder / widow maker ( or in your case, widower) is overstated, but it is definitely a different dynamic, be thoughtful but enjoy it. I raged 3 later 911s at the Porsche experience centre, the limit is very high. I’ve driven 3 996s, they are exceptionally good. Ignore the fried egg comments 👍

I’ve got a C2 cab 3.6 had it years it’s a fraction of the price of an air cooled model, faster, nicer to drive, comfier etc etc, just a stonkin do all car, keep it look after it and it’ll be worth the same when you sell it ……win, win

Bitat 5.56 looks like the A3 where you go under the A31 Farnham road / hogs back - just after that is a downhill stretch with amazing views - joined A3 coming up from Guildford£ in formation; with 2 other 911s and had glorious run! The mulberry is one of my old locals - I grew up about 3 miles down the road! It used to£ to be owned by Chris Evan’s - not sure if it still is! If you’d asked where to stop on way back to Worthing area from where you bought the car, that would Hahn in my top two or three suggestions if not the top! Glad you didn’t stop at another option nearby as it’s rubbish! And how is it ridiculous to get an Uber? Train would have taken longer and you’d have still had to get taxi to garage. And as you say, you’d have not made such a nice video if you’d taken another car. For picking up your special car, you called it right - though5 it was a really nice video!

Wtf?! 996 is very much a Porsche; by the Way it is the 2. most sold 911 Model ever plus the 996 has saved the whole Company from going bankrupt! I have driven all Porsche Models except from 992,Macan and taycan; the 996 is loads of Fun,it combines Past and Future of the Company I will keep my 996 C4 Cabrio X51. Keep on the good Content! I remember coming home from holiday one and coming up the road there was loads of blue lights on the road coming up to the roundabout all you could see was the roof of a car and I thought it is a 911 it was in the ditch so watch out when you put the power on.

Ignore the haters, I've driven every generation 911 upto but not inc the 992 and the 996 drives the best IMHO which is why I bought one myself. By the way you mentioned the seller had left the car running to warm it up before you collected it, this should never be done as can lead to bore scoring instead it should be driven from cold but just use less than half the rev range till it's warmed up. Just enjoy the car as much as possible they don't like being left long.
