I've been quite obsessed with writing, so writing prompts for studying sounds perfect for me. Because I've been planning to write more often when it comes to being a writer.

@@Sunflower-bo2mc I have a question: what is so difficult about adding an adjustable time interval to the play mode? We have been asking for this for months now, and it seems like such a simple and essential feature. The play mode is worthless if it doesn't give you as much time as you need to LEARN the information. Obviously there is a built-in interval coded into the page. How hard is it to add a basic text box and assign the interval equal to the user input? I love Quizlet, but the absence of such a basic feature that could make the study experience SO much better is extremely frustrating.

I use sort of the same method but instead of making blanks, I make my own "exam questions". So I would write "Explain how X pathway relates to Y" and then write the answer on the back. I find it so helpful and most of the questions I make are asked in some shape or form in the exam as well!

So here's a summary for everyone who watches this video. When it comes to studying the traditional method. The study techniques that are outdated like the way students studies flashcards. Instead of studying traditionally by having the term on one side, and the other for what information includes about the term. A better and efficient way of studying flashcards is to turn them in to fill in the blanks it's like writing prompts. However, before any student makes these kinds of flashcards make sure to review your materials. Like other than taking notes it's important to study actively by using active reading strategies such as doing exercises, practice tests, mind maps, teach yourself or teach others, marginal notes, and making summary sheets without looking at the source such as your notes, and books. When you have finally reviewed or study your material then you can go and make your flashcards. Seeing that doing this way before making them is if you don't know what you have reviewed or studied. Studying with flashcards will be hard if you don't review your materials. Also for those who like the paper method and use Janice's method of studying flashcards. Quizlet allows you to print your flashcards as long you follow the instructions for printing. Like you get to choose which layouts you see fits your preference just follow the instructions by step before printing and you'll have your own flashcards printed.

Obviously not a person on earth today who isn't aware that digital flashcards and apps can be had. Some people prefer old fashion paper, I for one prefer index cards. Sometimes you just want the feel of something other than a phone and staring at yet another screen. Even better to write them out by hand than to print them, imho, for retention purposes, although maybe typing in both sides works too.. in any event, more interaction than just installing an app.

Excuse me for the late reply. It's the same way as Janice Studies explain although, it's for a different course and field. Write the writing prompt and leave spaces in between because your answers will be on another side of the flashcard when you flip over the flashcard. I hope it helps and also a bonus, since history involves a lot of concepts or images you can still use images to help you study.

The biggest problem is why use flashcards in the first place. I have never used flashcards. I don't understand them. I don't know why anyone would want to use them. First, it takes a long time to write them. Second, it may take a long time to read them and get the answers correctly. Third, they look boring, tiring, tedious and time-consuming. Why not just read a book? In the same time you create and read flashcards you could just read a book. Or, if you are studying something like Physics or Mathematics, you should just solve a bunch of exercises from a textbook. Most textbooks have plenty of exercises for you to practice. All you have to do is solve them. The book author already prepared all the exercises for you, you don't need to write them, unlike flashcards. If you are learning a foreign language you should read as much as possible. Reading is the best way to acquire vocabulary. You consult the dictionary for the words necessary to understand the text. Reading is much more fun, entertaining and engaging than using flashcards. By reading you always see the word in context. Flashcards on the other hand take the words out of context. It is much harder to memorize and understand them. Flashcards are completely inefficient compared to just reading.
