Let me tell you how 1 year of flashcards changed my life.
But not all flashcards are created equal.

Hi Lois. Has the piece of software that you were talking about been released? That would be a very useful and handy tool indeed. I’m doing flash cards out of KZbin videos and it takes hours. Keep up the good job 🙏

Hi Lois! Which SRS system you would recommend to use as an API? Currently I built a Chrome extension which vocalizes KZbin video subtitles right after the phrase was told. Now I want to add SRS feature there, when user can easily create a flashcard (from original phrase on one side and its translation on another).

What do you means by "vocalizes KZbin video subtitles right after the phrase was told"? I don't know of any SRS which can be used as an API. You could build one fairly easily. For example, Anki uses the SM2 algorithm, which you can easily reproduce as backend code.

@loislanguagelearning it means, that after each phrase, the video is paused and the Chrome speech generator pronounces its translation. As for building own SRS , currently (when I`m just testing my value hypothesis) it's easier to use some existing one. Btw, on this short video kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIOThGRvrrt-e9E I clear showed how the extension currently works. But it seems not to have a big value in its current form. I would appreciate to have a small interview with your as an expert of language learning, to find out ways, how to make my thing really valuable. Let me know, if it is possible. Thank you in advance!

Hii, I'm a language learning English student and I have a few questions, translation of the words don't affect in your comprehension? I mean, i used to think that translate from your target language or vice versa it wasn't the best because you will keep doing and the best it's just understanding, it isn't? And my last question, what do you write in the back of the flashcard if you don't want to write the translation? I will be so grateful if you answer my questions, I love your videos, you're my inspiration to learn English and Japanese. Also i consider that you're one of the best channels I've ever seen, your videos are so useful!!💗

Hi @namiz_1 I'll try to answer the questions since I think he hasn't answered your queries. 1) There are lots of studies that have shown that bi-directional translation greatly aids in language acquisition. That is say translating from your target language (Arabic) to English and the other way around. It's usually easier to translate from the target language and a little more tricky to translate from your base language to your target language. This not only rapidly improves your acquisition but also trains your mind to start forming sentences and correct ones after continuing the practice for hundreds and even thousands of sentences over time. It also trains your to move towards speaking since you would need to form the sentences in your mind before you speak them. Over time it becomes a very smooth process. The way you're doing by just reading and taking in comprehensive input helps too but it would take longer, for some more challenging languages quite a bit longer. 2) What he meant in the video was, say you want to learn Arabic (your target language), let the translation in English (or whatever is your base language) be in the front of the card - with the Arabic word that you'd use in the translation, which is going to be on the other side of the card. So you see a sentence in your base/native langauge, see the word as a cue and then construct the sentence in your target language, which is the answer on the other side of the card. This way not only would you be picking up the vocabulary very easily (that's how we've all learned vocabulary in our native tongues, understanding the meanings of words from context in a sentence. You also develop your ability to construct the sentence in your target language. It is also far more effective to help you retain the vocabulary in your mind due to the sentence, and also getting the meaning in the right context and thirdly to help you construct the correct sentences. I hope it has been clear.

Hello, I saw that ANKI has the option to add two cards with the same content but reversed (one "for recall" and one "for recognition"). Should I add two cards and learn this way, or is it better to have only cards for recall?

I don;t know if Anki is buggy, but, when I label a word, as easy, and to re-shown , in a month's time, I don't expect to see it the next day? So, is Anki, on Android buggy?
