Man Overkill, you have been busting your BoomBox putting out some fantastic content!!! You're doing such a fantastic job!!! Great gear here and I also had the Extreme 3d for il2, which is actually the only flightsim type thing I flew. I basically toy with msfs because I'm never going to learn enough at this stage in life so I don't work too hard at it. Just having fun with it when I feel good enough to. For what I fly, i always use the PMS50 GTN-750 ( I also have TDS just more used to pms50) I don't know the G1000 and as I only fly in VR when I have tried using it in the plane I never have much success with it. Do you or can you use the Flightsimbuilder gear well in VR? And I wonder if they'll ever do the 750? Thanks again for all the awesome content you put out! Been watching all your Pimax Crystal videos as I just got 1 and going thru growing pains with it. Great job!

Hey Don! 1. Yes - I have used it in VR... it takes a bit of getting used to but the nice thing is that what you see in the VR headset is physically in front of you. So "feeling" around for the buttons is much easier than trying to remember what is what. After a bit of use you get the muscle memory and it goes much faster/ smoother 2. Yes - They are working on the GTN750, however, given that it is a touch screen primarily that would be a bit more difficult in VR. 3. You're very welcome and thank you for the kind words!

Between the mid and high range are VKB and Turtle Beach. The VKB stuff is modular so you can configure it just about any way you want and always have an option to expand. The Turtle Beach Velocity One yoke/throttle quad has probably the best trim wheel out there, an autopilot button panel, reverse thrust detents and dual hat switches on both yoke horns. You can get it with rudder pedals for the same price as the Honeycomb Alpha alone. It's a no-brainer.
@OverkillSimulations
@OverkillSimulations 11 ай бұрын
I can see your point. However, I personally didn't have a great experience with the Velocity One. I found the throttles to be very loose and finicky and didn't like the wiggle and flex in the yoke. I will agree the trim wheel was almost perfect on it for fine tuning.
@pi.actual
@pi.actual 11 ай бұрын
@@OverkillSimulations I agree the Velocity One yoke has one problem and that is binding in the elevator function near or at the center detent. It requires a simple add-on device that was created by a Dutch guy and is available online as a 3D print file but yea, an owner shouldn't have to do that and Turtle Beach needs to step up to the plate on this issue. But I think many flight sim people have an inherent bit of DIY in them and this is a pretty simple fix so I don't consider it a deal breaker. Same for the loose throttles, a little bit of shrink tubing on the shafts will fix that. In the end we have to realize that even if you drop a thousand bucks on a Virpl or Winwing setup these devices are still toys and the sim is a game.

Thanks for reminding me about the Class Echo! I had noted it to investigate back when you mentioned it before but never did. I just loaded it onto an old fire tablet I had hanging around and it's fantastic. Now to order the mobile stand on Etsy and maybe I can finally give the mouse a rest. See it never hurts to repeat feature stuff.

I bought a logitech X56 Hotas flight stick. Do you know a good place for profiles, as my mixture is on the wrong axis. Other than that, it seems to work very well. I'm still working on the installation & getting there. I like your choices, especially repil, but are they in the UK or Ireland Octavi looks very promising for both types of simulations. I will probably have to reboot the PC. & may change the setup. Are there any links? Thanks 👍

So, I noticed that when I first got mine and what was happening is the wire is getting caught on a screw or extrusion on the axis handle and would be yanked out. I used a heated butter knife and pushed the wire down. The heat would reform the shielding and helped keep them down under the yank point

You can also add a 3rd party dampener mod to the Virpil pedals which is very useful for no spring heli configurations

I absolutely enjoy my Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo setup along with my Saitek rudder pedals and the TCA Airbus stick (for a plane that I never fly (Go Boeing!))! Wish I had my Charlie's (Cough). I think I would have also recommended, for the casual and/or beginner simmer, the T1600m HOTAS pack. You can have the basic controls of what you need for most aircraft for the price of one of the controllers you've mentioned. They did me justice for years before I decided to upgrade.

Buyer beware on the Bravo. I love it, but there is a major fault with the reverser axis wiring. It’s prone to snapping off the throttle axis because it is wound too tight or something. Over a year and a half of having it each reverser axis failed on me because the wire snapped from the solder and now none of them work. You can pull the unit apart and fix it yourself if you have the tools and the know how, but most won’t. Maybe newer builds have fixed it but they don’t really specify as far as I can tell.
@donc9751

Hmmmm this is interesting to know. I've never had luck with reverse thrusters, either jet, or turboprops with my Bravo. It's probably 2 years old now and I basically gave up trying to get those settings to work. But it is quite possible I've never set it up right to begin with. Thanks for the info!

Maybe Im totally off base, but feel like the more stuff you get for free the more your reviews and recommendations seem to become biased. Again, thats how it seems to me. Others can speak for themselves obviously, but Ive seen this before with other channels. Over time, as they just start to gain some ground, they lose focus on the subscriber base. They lose focus on providing quality content for both their Patreon members and even simply channel subscriber base. It becomes about quantity of video releases, quick “reviews” that end up being short commercials, and a lack of beneficial content that gained the attention of the community to begin with. Take it for what value it may or may not have to you and your subscribers. But the past month plus has really began to change. Honestly, thats why I stopped being a patreon, and whether the channel stays on my subscriber list will depend on if I personally see value in the production content compared to other options. Thats just my personal review that may offer some insight to how some of your followers might be seeing things.

I"m sorry you feel that way but I don't necessarily agree. I have shot down many products on this channel. One of them being a VR headset that was provided to me just a couple months ago. My opinions are genuine here and these are items that I use on a weekly if not daily basis. I even made it a point to state things like Thrustmaster being comparable and still in use on my motion rig. I mentioned with the Honeycomb products which were NOT provided to me that there were far better equipment out there just for a higher price. I mentioned that my TPR rudder pedals are still installed on my motion rig and that I would never get rid of them. And stated the only reason I recommended the Virpil pedals was because they were cheaper and had more customization options than the TPRs The Pimax reviews I do, I have stated multiple times that I am and always have been a fan of Pimax. The Pimax Crystal is the first VR headset that was NOT purchased by me and I have owned every release they have put out. Along with the Oculus Rift CV1, Rift S, and Quest 2 that were also purchased by me. 90% of the aircraft I review, I review them because I enjoy them.... I'm really sorry you feel that way and I will try to address your concerns further in future videos but again I must state that the opinions you hear from me are genuinely my own. This was not a solicited video. I truly thought it would be a helpful video BECAUSE I have tried so many products in the last year. The products I mentioned in this video brought change in quality, precision, performance and much more joy to my simulation experience.

I absolutely agree with you about the Logitech Yoke, it has some glaring flaws, mainly the deadzone issues, that could be really easily fixed for a product like this. Compared to other yokes, yes it is cheap, but it is still a £100 product, that doesn't feel like one. I have gotten a good amount of use out of it, but wish I had gotten a cheap hotas instead

Virpil definitely is a nice set of hardware and adjustability is great but im not a fan of the prices. the cost of a base alone is about the same as a winning stick and base together which I find to be a very good stick. my honest opinion the adjustability factor is not a big deal for the average person, if your a hardcore helo sim guy maybe you would benefit from those features but outside that for the money i’d go winning myself but that’s only my opinion

I wish all of you guys would stop beating around the bush and just be honest. Tell people the Microsoft flight simulator and DCS aren't games anymore. A sub $1000 set of controls will get you started but are so sloppily and poorly made will quickly become useless. I started with the x56, it was wonderful. Easy to set up and had a button for everything. I was progressing well. My biggest problem was landing the F16. I couldn't do it constantly. Its like 6 or 7 landings would be perfect then nothing would work as it should. I thought it was something i was doing wrong. Until i started learning how to do AA refueling. Thats when i realized its impossible to do Precision maneuvers with the x56 unless you go into both and alter them. And of course you have to tune them for you. But you also need to polish the ball of the flight stick and use a heavy grease. The cams on both throttles also need to be stiffened among other issues. So by time you get the x56 fixed you will have $500 and hours of labor in modifications. The truth is to get into a real flight sim your going to have to spend $1000 on flight controls. Because these aren't games anymore.
