Geez, you started me tearing up again when you showed us that crystal heart with you and Bella. Whoever did that is pretty special. Losing a fur baby -- especially two in very close proximity (Bella and baby Jay) is tough. I lost a lovely Siamese cat, Miss Holly, about three days before Christmas three years ago. I have half of her cremains in a lovely Cloisonne glazed ginger jar (her Mum of 10 years has the other half). I still lose it if I look too long at the little shrine I've erected to her memory. Oh my, those mushrooms look wonderful! Wish I had access to some of those. A friend gave me a few of them that he'd found. I love regular mushrooms, though -- and they're a lot easier to find (you go to the grocery). Sautee them in BUTTER and some sherry and a sprinkling of garlic powder, then finish them with heavy cream. Yummo! I treat myself now and then and get myself some of those brown Criminis. If you were to see me in person, you'd definitely tell that I can certainly put a very decent meal on the table for myself! (I'm 6'3", 285 pounds). I sure wish my Dad had a relationship with me as you have with Houston. I am very envious of you two. I'm not saying that he was bad; but our relationship was very different from yours with Houston.

I live and grew up in Indiana and was raise morel mushroom hunting. Loved hunting them and eating them. The wife along with our 3 sons would ride down abandon railroad tracks in our old 1952 Dodge pick-up and hunt them. Honestly we would find enough to fill a bathtub most of the time. We would get them all clean and eat our fill after we gave to those who weren't able to get out and hunt.

My momma always said to carry your morels in a potato bag when mushroom hunting. (The kind that is a mesh) That way all of the spores fall out as you walk and replants the mushrooms!
