Demontower, feels like an old arcade game, with lore as elusive as dark souls, and as affecting as the rest of Night in the Woods... Great video, Night in the Woods essay's always bring me such joy and reflection. Definitely subscribing so I can see the next thing you rip such boggling beautiful emotions out of!

This is such an awesome and often under looked game. I find myself coming back to Mae's story because I found myself in her shoes my senior year of college. I can empathize with her derealization and feelings of alienation while trying to hold onto what was left of her childhood, and I think that's important to remember about her character. Also, Demon Tower is so fucking fun. I wish that it was released as a standalone but only existing in the NITW universe feels right to me.

if you like the gameplay and 8bit style of demontower, you should try hyper light drifter. the color scheme and overall aesthetic is different, but the experience is reminiscent of demontower, just in a long form game. it even has that same intuitive gameplay and similar themes of existentialism and finding beauty where there’s destruction and hurt.
