😀 Hi Helen! I remember you previously mentioning how much you loved yours like I love mine! And I agree: it may be the best garden "tool" that I use!

Those things are great! Not just for the elderly or immobile. Who doesn't want knee padding in the garden? I use two, I put my tools in the bench pockets and us it to sit, for a little break, and the other for my knees. I would be lost without them.
@GardenSanity Жыл бұрын
What a great idea Anne -- it never occurred to me to use two of them! 👍Of course, it only took me until this year to finally put an extra set of hand pruners in the backyard shed, versus always carrying them between the front yard and the back yard! 😂 And yes, I love that I can sit right where I'm working to take a much needed -- and much deserved -- break at times! (Especially in this humidity!)

I've had mine for 3yrs and it's my favourite garden tool next to my HoriHori. I'm now 55yrs old, living with rheumatoid arthritis/Lupus. I would not be able to do as much as I do without it 🥰. My side pouches never stayed on either but it's really no big deal as everything else I need I keep in a little wagon. The bench is the perfect width to fit over the handles of most wheelbarrows and my wagon. We have an acre so to be able to push a wheel barrow of clippings out back to the compost bays then set my bench down for a breather before heading back for another load. Also it allows me to sit on the grass to putter around planting out and weeding and be able to pull myself back up having it beside me. I'm so glad you did this video as I'm sure it's going to greatly help so many.

You’re so right that the bench is great for taking a much-needed break while working outside! 👍 I love that it fits over your wheelbarrow handles - that’s a great tip. I understand that RA can be painful, as can Lupus, so I wish you pain-free, happy gardening. ❤️

I’m 61 and have been avoiding getting one of these kneeler benches for a couple years. I generally use a standard kneeler pad or do my gardening standing up. After watching your video, I think I will invest in one. you had some great points, especially when kneeling and trying to reach further without losing my balance or twisting something on me or the plants. lol.

Hi Leanne -- I'll soon be 58 and I swear it's never too early to start using one of these! 👍 I think you'll really enjoy the improvement when you kneel and have to get up and down. (I do a lot of my garden standing up and bending over too.) If you do get one -- please let me know how you like it! 😃

Agree with everyhing you said! I got one of these last year due to my knee issue and I purchased one for my Mother-in-law too. Ours are purple. It's the best thing to help with getting down and up. I'm 46 and I honestly thought gardening would become a hobby that I once had. This handy kneeler changed that! My husband also uses it.

I've had knee pain since my 30s. I have one of these kneelers, must be 20 yrs old now and though the paint has worn in places, it's still as good as new otherwise. I use it all the time as it's much easier to get up from the ground level when I can push up on the handles.

Just found your video and thought this might help me. I garden a lot on my knees and am now having trouble getting up. Ugh. So I went and found one I have but have not used. The handles helped me get down but I was dumped forward when I tried getting up. Mine is very rocky in the kneeling position. I think it’s more for sitting. So I immediately ordered the one you have and linked in your video. Very excited. Thank you.

I got one for Christmas a couple years ago and am not sold on the kneeler. I found it uncomfortable to plant annuals because I had to reach out and down further and it irritated my back muscles. I wanted to watch your video to get another opinion about it. I’ll definitely give it another try. At this time I don’t have huge mobility issues but it is getting harder to hoist my body off the ground 😊. I appreciate your videos to learn more about “how to” in my garden. You have great content!
@GardenSanity Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Lisa, I appreciate it! 😊 There are so many different brands and varieties of these garden bench kneelers, that it is possible you have one that's just not as user-friendly. I can only honestly sing the praises of the specific one I purchased twice, both times with great results. So I understand. The best way I dig while kneeling on mine is to hold onto one of the handles to keep me from leaning forward without balancing. Or, I put a gloved hand down on the ground while digging with the other hand. The best option would be to pull the garden closer to us like a rug -- wouldn't that be awesome? 😂 I joke, but I completely understand trying to find what works to keep each of us gardening without difficulty. ❤

That’s taller than the one I bought from Aldi years ago, I’m going to have to think about upgrading, Blessings 💜💜
@GardenSanity Жыл бұрын
Hi Gail! What's nice about this one is because it's a bit taller, that means the arms (when using it as a kneeler) are also taller, so you don't have to reach down as far to hold on. I'm short, but my feet are still on the ground and I find it's easy for gardening while sitting too. 💜

@@GardenSanity yes, and mine is plastic, don’t want it to snap plus it’s not as tall as yours.

I bought one of these almost 30 years ago when I began having problems with my knees. After my first knee surgery in 1996 (a TTT surgery, not TKR) I could no longer use it because the cushions were just too hard to kneel on. For anyone with knee issues I think you would want to add another thicker and softer pad somehow. This pad is not soft at all, unless you’re comparing it to bare ground or concrete. Kneeling on grass is softer in my opinion. It also is narrow front to back and a bit top heavy in design so it is quite easy to tip forwards or backwards if it is on rough ground when used as a bench, which I found dangerous. I love the idea of this bench; I just think it would be better if it could be adjusted in height for shorter folks when used as a bench, adjust for unlevel ground so it was less tippy and that it had a MUCH softer and thicker cushion when used as a kneeler. I basically stopped gardening in the ground to the degree I did before and opted for only perennials and ground covers that were very easy care and lots of Preen to keep weeds at bay, or I planted in smallish containers that I could lift to a comfortable height to weed. I’m hoping to add some window boxes that I can reach from the ground in the future.

Hi Trina, thanks for sharing your story. Knee pain and surgery is no picnic. ☹️ I had a double hip replacement - not the same as knees, but still limiting and painful before the surgery. These garden kneeler benches have improved from what you purchased 30 years ago, but yes the cushion isn’t super-soft so you’re right it provides firmer support. I definitely don’t recommend using this on uneven ground without first really making sure when you put it down that it is stable. I do this by moving it back and forth in place to see if it will end up rocking back and forth or if it stays in place. If it rocks, then I move it around until I find a stable position where it won’t rock around. Only then will I kneel or sit on it. ❤️ You’re smart to plant easy-care perennials and ground covers - I’m a big advocate of doing so, as none of us are getting any younger! 😊 I hope you find some nice window boxes that are easy to plant. I really appreciate you sharing your experience!

Sure looks helpful! Any thoughts on how to get my dappled willow cuttings to transition to soil. One got eaten by 🐰 when I planted it. 🤬 So, that’s out. I have one in a pot of potting soil and one in garden soil. Keep them outside? Full sun? Very moist I assume?
@GardenSanity Жыл бұрын
Oh I can easily imagine how you felt seeing one of the cuttings eaten by rabbits. 😡 I’ve grown the cuttings in both potting and garden soil, like you’re doing. I think the garden soil may work better, only because when you eventually plant the cutting into the ground, it will be in the same soil already. I start them off in shade for a few days, then full sun is fine. And yes, moist soil definitely! Plastic pots help keep moisture in versus terra cotta. Hope this helps!

Mine isn't as expensive as other models I've seen yet is still in perfect condition, but when you add up purchasing a few of those rubberized garden kneelers -- it sort of evens out.
