As a Boomer, I have a lifetime of losing faith in medical services. The loss of trust leads to fear and comes out as grumpiness and anger from my cohort I'm sure. You are one in a million, Doctor ! You must inspire many people - hopefully including other medical professionals.

Are you an actual boomer, someone born during the baby boom right after WW2 or are you a Gen Xer who is embracing Dr. K using a derogatory term for us lumping us in with our parents generation? You are more than welcome to search for the names of each generation if you think I’m being unfair to a supposedly educated person who has chosen to us a derogatory term for people my age.

I’m a boomer and had an awful time finding a doctor who would listen in the ‘90s. I had fired 5 doctors and finally made an appointment with a new physician.. On the first visit he came into the room and asked what he could do for me. I told him I was there to interview him as I had had difficulty getting a physician I trusted since moving into the area. He actually sat on the exam table and we talked for 45 minutes. Then he asked me if he passed.🤣🤣🤣. I was delighted and he remained my physician for 25 yrs. Until he retired out of the area. The physician he referred to me has similar personality but Dr. S will never be replaced. He was a one of a kind.

True. But we're also usually the ones who don't take any guff from narcissistic, condescending doctors. It doesn't mean that they don't try, but we're usually the ones who have taken control over our minds, bodies, and mental well-being. We're usually well-educated and intelligent enough to discern good care.

Late Boomer here. I interview my doctor before becoming a patient. Squeaky wheel, bunch of questions. I joke a bit with nurses, especially the ones with sourpusses. I make the surgeon laugh. I ask to see whatever is being removed when it's over😂 If I awaken during twilight, I let them know. As for *your* part in the procedure. Either a chat the night before, or day of before the drip. YOU literally have our lives in your hands. For me, God uses you as a conduit After the serious stuff, I'd call you "Dr. Feelgood". Either that or imagine Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably Numb'. Because I'm a late Boomer😂

@MedicalSecrets The only things I could add would be to leave the phones out of there for sanitary reasons. This will give more time for eye contact and real human nurturing. If the surgeon and staff are going to discuss the patient personally, they need to be nice or just be quiet. Once, I was not out yet. I was lying face down and had a question. The nurse was arguing with the surgeon that he better spend x amount of time in the O. R. for insurance to pay. Well, he got angry and was not gentle. I said something, and the nurse said, "How is she even talking??"😲 More anecdotes to come...🙂

@@AliciaGuitar she lost her license for doing dances ect while over people with open skin and tissue. As well as not looking at her patients while preforming these. She was warned for several years but still did it. As a patient depending on where you live and laws ect you can request to watch your procedures. All surgeries are taped but I’m not sure if you can take a copy home but that’s one way doctors learn to preform specific surgeries. A friend in California who’s a surgeon said they all watch as many as possible and most are on KZbin.

You said something that struck a cord with me. You said that the past is depression and the future anxiety. The way to end the cycle is with curiosity. That left an impression and I wanted to truly say thank you. You are a good man.
@MedicalSecrets
@MedicalSecrets Жыл бұрын
I'm so happy that it resonated with you. I heard it from a psychiatrist named Dr Brewer. It has also fundamentally changed my understanding of anxiety vs depression. If you had ever suffered from these, I'm wishing you the best in healing 🙏
@eed___
@eed___ Жыл бұрын
That resonated with me as well. I think the wisdom comes from knowing that our brains are trying to predict outcomes most of the time and what usually happens with anxiety is that suddenly you're floaded with so many perspectives all at once that you can't analyze/verify or you enter tunnel vision and catastrophize one outcome that you fear the most. So, what I got from what he said was that training your mind to practice searching for more positive outcomes can greatly impact your mental state after surgery and that's when curiosity hits. You train your brain to make new associations, instead of relying on the conditionings of the past and then it will have more repertoire to predict favorable outcomes for you in the future 😊 No magical thinking here hehe, it's not about toxic positivity. Obviously, that can take some time, months or years for some people and the type of care and context we are surrounded by will make an impact as well. Releasing depression is much more efficient when you can focus on releasing the emotions that were trapped and couldn't be expressed at the time, such as: fear, toxic shame, inappropriate guilt, repressed anger.

Didn’t need any pain medication and was up and walking around a few hours after both my overies and my uterus wereremoved. I had a Colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, I was put under General Anesthesia today. The funny part was my Anesthesiologist looked just like Howey Mandell...He was a Great Anesthesiologist, the first person who came to mind, was You....Dr. Kaveh. I Am Thankful to God there are Dr'.s like you!!! I went in and came out of Anesthesia with complete Attitude of Gratitude. When you are disabled and Vulnerable, being Thankful is part of that. My Procedure was in Ohio today. Everyone , no matter Baby Boomer or Millenial...I am a Gen-Xer, tough as nails, in the '80's it wasn't a good day unless you were soaked in sweat from riding your Huffy bike and comparing road rashes and injuries...one thing is for sure, You are born into this world having your diapers changed and will most likely have your diaper changed.. I know, I am humble enough I had to have that done for me, after being groggy from coming out of Anesthesia. Treat people with kindness, and live with humility. That is what I have learned after being a 2 time 36 year cancer survivor, since 1989. Thank You and God Bless You All.

I had a procedure a while back where they sedate you. Sitting in a gown in the waiting room I could hear a guy somewhere else talking overly loud and happy. I realized after a little while that was the recovery room and he was high. After the procedure I came to in a chair and a nurse asked me if I was ready to have something to eat yet. She said something to me and I didn't know what it meant. I remembered just enough to realize I must have been that loud guy a couple of minutes previously too. Pretty sure I'd be embarrassed if I remembered more - even though I know they see people tripping and saying dumb stuff all day.

I also turned to Dr Kavah for ketamine assistance. With a schedule of 12 treatments, now weaning down over the next 2 weeks. I was told I would talk with a NP not understanding it would be after the last treatment for this session. I had NO ONE to discuss what was or had transpired during the actual treatment, I was perfectly content with sounds waves and a lit sky on the ceiling. Going home, not quite sure what to do I slept most days after treatments. The lack of talking to anyone except the one administering the medication and 3 blood pressures, there was no talk other than a paper with a number scale for your mood between treatments. No discussion, just fill in the blanks. While I lived the ketamine, the process was a little inhuman, lacking any insight these patients likely have questions and would like answers from the licenced therapy practitioner, not the nurse.

Thank you so much for your informative videos! I hope you do one on patients with Dementia and/or Alzheimer's disease. When making decisions about surgery, it would be good to understand what risk is for putting elder's under anesthesia when they have already been struggling with dementia for years. My mom had hip surgery and did not wake up out of it for a week. She had a post-op stroke soon after the surgery and doctors disagreed on it being the anesthesia or the stroke. Another doctor suggested her anesthesia should have been adjusted for blood pressure and that's the issue. Still have cardiologists suggesting another optional procedure that requires anesthesia. It's so controversial about whether anesthesia decreases cognitive function in people experiencing severe dementia already. If you could share your insight it would be very appreciated and helpful.

I'm a 40 year old millenial and relate to the examples of behavior you gave. I have a lot of anxiety and have been through a lot with my health like cancer, and losing a lobe of my lung from necrotizing pneumonia, also I lost 3/4 of my blood. I've witnessed a lot of nasty and incompetent Dr's and nurses. One nurse tried taking my oxycodone and clonazepam two med passes in a row. She was an addict. I didn't blow the whistle on her though.

For all of you about to undergo a colonoscopy please please have all the solution, yep I know it’s horrible have it all. It makes your bowel super clean for the scope and your Doctor won’t miss a thing. I had a Polyp that decided to make itself so comfortable in my bowel that even a specialist couldn’t move it, so I had to have a Right Hemicolectomy, that’s the removal of the right side of my bowel. Who knows how long it was there for as I hadn’t been having all the solution, sometimes Doctors won’t tell you if he had a good clear view of your bowel. So take as long as you have to to get it down and don’t let yourself get dehydrated or you’ll fin yourselves in the ER. That Polyp was as lazy as I am just lying there doing nothing, yes it could have been worse but luck for me it wasn’t. Good luck and not like me don’t throw the solution out ok.👋🏻👍

Please, doctor I loveyour Channel... but GenX (despite being a smaller group) is unique. Please learn about us and stop making assumptions about us. We, the least-parented group that grew up during early innovations... and unique economic situations and a special period of time in history. I encourage you, dear doctor, to do a deep dive of research into gen x (not y) and keep an open mind while giving us your thoughtful, nuanced, researched ideas. By shoving us into the wrong generation... (this happens a lot to gen x)perhaps some of us feel misunderstood in ways that you may not be able to identify without this deeper understanding of our history. Please apply your insights and care to us, too. ❤😊😅😮 (wait, the others forgot about us or didn't understand us yet again) 😢😂❤. Except for leaving out GenX I love your insights.

I'm a boomer, and after an afternoon angiogram I was told I had to have 2x CABG first thing next morning. The anesthetist came up to see me at 10.30pm to ask if I had any questions. I sure did, a friend of mine had been awake but paralysed during her C section forty years ago and that true horror story was scaring me to bits.This wonderful man spent an entire half hour answering all my questions until I was totally at ease. He pointed out all the changes that had taken place since then, and why it couldn't happen to me. My advice: if you're scared or have any questions about the anesthesia, ASK.

It went well! Mom took me off my painkillers the second day after surgery because I was not having enough pain! I don’t realize that one of my medication was something that I was allergic and it was on my list of what I was allergic to? But the hospital doesn’t give you s wrist band with your allergy to medication like they put on s wrist band with your name and Birthday! They need to do that for what you are allergic to because with what they gave me was Gabapentin which I am highly allergic to that my throat started to closey! But they expect they to look it up on the computer but that is kind of hard when the Dr . Is doing the surgery! I am just gald that I am doing better?

@shewitt7603 You can call your state Department of Health and Human Services and file a complaint against thr nursing home. You report that they aren't managing his pain and in fact withholding his medication. Report any neglect/abuse you believe is happening. Theres a very high chance that the investigator wont know the local people involved in his care. You can also threaten to call the local news station. Im so sorry you're going through this. I hope your son gets the care he needs. 🙏🏼❤️

@@MedicalSecrets ok, I can understand that. Just be careful not to lump us in with either the boomers or the millennials because we are not going to fit in either of those boxes. As a matter of fact, one of the things that has been noticed about Gen X is that we really are the most diverse of groups (if you don’t count the youngest, who are still not grown lol. ) Also, I am so happy to have gotten a comment from you. Just curious as a boomer and a retired (disabled) nurse, how nurses react with anesthesia?? I personally having had some very bad experiences with surgery am terrified to get anesthesia. Kind of like you know too much, but not enough. I 100% prefer to be awake for any procedure and I’m definitely one who likes to ask questions and wants to watch. I have fibromyalgia as well as several other autoimmune diseases and the fibromyalgia has kicked my butt with new allergic reactions, crazy side effects, sleep issues, depression, PTSD, etc. Not waking up is a concern I have or strokes or heart attacks also a concern. But yet I’ve had several RFA’s on my lower back and my both knees, I asked for pictures and my doctor gave them to me. I’m a big researcher when it comes to my health. I think that’s the nurse in me?? I wish all of a persons health providers (PCP, pain management doctor, psychiatrist, cardiologist, etc. Your medical team ) could meet and discuss the patient’s overall health like we did in hospice so that everyone is on the same page. Love your videos, very informative!
