I wanted to send a quick thank you over to you. While researching better gimbal setups for some upcoming shoots I came across your video. Like you I am on the taller side and didn't like most of the solutions I was coming across. So, I copied your gimbal rig (with the exception of a few accessories and the camera) and like you, paired with my previously owned EasyRig Stabil, applying it to a multi-day corporate/industrial shoot in Miami this week. The setup worked EXTREMELY well! Thank you so very much for your video and best wishes in all things.

brilliant setup for what you do. Used to shoot on the gh4 and had the olympuse pro 7-14. Incredibly sharp lens and the manual focus clutch was amazing. Now a sony a74 shooter and once i have a cage and 24-70sigma (fly by wire focus sadly) the weight gets to you, thankfully with crop mode i can punch in and basically get everything I need in one setup but it certainly weighs more thats for sure plus with a gimbal in hand. Need to look at a dummy ring and an inexpensive easy rig solution for longer shoots.

I absolutely love this! I’ve been doing a ton of research into a full gimbal build but question. I run an R6 myself with some different lenses but.. Im really curious about one thing. I was convinced that your setup is the best for your work but… with the ronin 4D 8K you could use a wide angle lens , have the same stability with the built in gimbal and crop in in post because you have 8K to work with. Why dont you use that? W the flex cable if you dont need the chicken neck you can attach it to the back of the easy rig or anything.
@JustinPorterMedia
@JustinPorterMedia 11 ай бұрын
I like DJI but the ronin 4D isn’t an A Cam solution. It’s a very specific tool for certain shots in my opinion. I’d never use it mostly because of the lack of lens support. What if I want a 70-200. Or a 24-70. It just isn’t ideal
@poti732
@poti732 11 ай бұрын
@@JustinPorterMedia if you remove the chicken neck or disable it you can use 24-70 on it but iv got your point . Isnt 8k enough to crop in instad of the 70-200?

With your pull focus setup, what’s the purpose of the strap you have wrapped from the rod to lens? I’m curious if it eliminates any slight wiggle you get on the lens when pulling focus? If so that’s really smart!

Looks good man. Interesting how you seem to have it permanently in underslung mode. Has DJI updated the firmware so it's "fixed" now? My RS3 was driving me crazy cause starting it in underslung mode gave me tons of issues, like the camera would face the opposite direction (pointing towards the motor). I did not find any other solution at that time (if one wanted to be able to switch between underslung and normal I mean without remounting the camera). Maybe I was missing something?

I use a R6 mark ii as a dedicated gimbal cam, and have the 6k pro 100 % handheld as I cba having it rig it off a gimbal, unhook all the wires etc. I was thinking to replace my 6k pro with a DJI ronin 4d for that simple reason of being able to go handheld within a few seconds, but can't justify the price! With a setup like yours I would expect that it should be possible to reverse the roles of my cameras, and having the 6k pro on a gimbal all day. Is there a reason why you specifically use the 4k? (Other than the fact of the lens choises as you've mentioned) And would you advise against using the 6k pro on a gimbal for your style of wedding filmmaking?

So the key of this setup is the EasyRig here! I bought the Tilta Ring few days ago but I already want to return it since I'm not comfortable with it, looks like your rig fits more for my needs. SInce I saw the video of Brandon Washington with the Tilta Dual Handle, I was not reassured to buy it (because of the lose screw), but it looks like the EasyRig alleviates the whole weight. Any issues noticed with this kit since you started using it this way? Great video btw!
@JustinPorterMedia
@JustinPorterMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks so much for watching. I also have the ring grip and am going to be testing a different setup tomorrow. both options are 100 times better with the easyrig. I personally feel like the gimbal performs better in underslung though. There a spot in the video where I talk about the lose scree deal and add a reinforcement. I also used a set of pliers to really tighten the screw so there has never been any slip.

Hey! So you don’t want the tension super tight or super loose. It should be in between where you still have to hold the camera at the specific height however, when you step, it shouldn’t pull the camera up. I also had the float. I’d prefer using the float for sure especially for long term gimbal work. The issue with the float and specifically in my case is the efficiency. With weddings, I can’t be confined to a piece of equipment because things happen and I’ll need to set it down. The float isn’t as “run and gun” and if you’re in a tight space, its useless. It’s great for big event stuff or corporate stuff. I would use it for weddings :(

@@JustinPorterMedia im with you! thanks for the advice, im guessing every time you take off the float, youd have to rebalance it every time however i heard it does better at getting out micro jitters xD
@JustinPorterMedia

@@Avensium yes you’d encounter some slight variances. The biggest thing for me is needing to use a zoom lens. It’s hard to be 100% committed with gimbal work at a fixed focal length.

with easy rig and gimbal do you ever have issue with up and down bouncing? I am having issue with tension from easy rig pulling on gimbal and making it bounce
@JustinPorterMedia
@JustinPorterMedia 2 жыл бұрын
No I don’t. The one I use also has the dampening arm so it helps reduce vertical bounces.

Hi Justin great content!!!Quick question I am running a Bmpcc 6k pro with Meike s35 cine lenses,nucleus nano and a mattebox on a Rs3 pro. The problem is no matter how good the balance is or how smooth steps I do,always getting jitters and shakiness on my footage.I’ve tried multiple things to do but no luck.Do you have any suggestions to try out??Thank you anyway!!

Truthfully my experience hasn’t been good with the gimbals and Blackmagic without stabilized lenses. The micro jitter really shows up when using cine lenses especially over 30mm

What are the best cinematic settings for my DJI ronin rs2?
@JustinPorterMedia
@JustinPorterMedia 2 жыл бұрын
I would honestly copy the same settings in this video. I prefer the slowest settings so the gimbal doesn’t react fast when you turn. The fast reactions always make the footage jumpy.

Hi Justin. Does it support the sigma 18-35mm + Metabones? And where do you put your mic? (and what mic do you use)? Thanks!

Hey. It will support it however it wouldn’t be the same results as this. I also don’t use the gimbal with a mic. At the weddings they wear deity BP-TRX mics that record internally.

Hey Justin! I am debating between getting the Stabil or the regular MiniMax for weddings. I primarily shoot handheld but sometimes I like to incorporate a gimbal. Do you think it's worth getting the stabil light or the regular minimax? Are they pretty much the same when it comes to size?
@JustinPorterMedia
@JustinPorterMedia Жыл бұрын
Yea for the most part they are the same size. The stabil arm though is needed for use with the gimbal. It dampens the vertical movements.

Hey man I've gotta question for ya. I have the pocket 6K pro & the Ursa G2, I'm looking into the Easyrig Minimax stabil light to help me carry the weight throughout the day. On the specs it says the stabil light can carry 2-7 KG. With a quick check, I find the pocket 6K + tilta ring grip, monitor, extra v mount, sigma 18-35mm & other accessories at nearly 7 kg. Then the Ursa at 8,82 Kg with a small hd monitor, nucleus M for focus & mic + mount & cinema lens (pictorzoom 20-55 & 50-125mm). I'm just doubting because I see in your video you have similar gear set-up....so the question is did you experience any issues with the Stabil Light? Especially on the heavier set-ups you've had? P.S. I'm also getting into wedding video's so your feedback would mean alot! Also, are you sure about the Tilta Ring grip? Did you try to mount it on top of the handle instead of the back to avoid the jitter? Thanks!
@JustinPorterMedia
@JustinPorterMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Hey. Without a doubt, the stabil light will support your setup. I run the Ursa, portkeys bm5 monitor, rode ntg3, 70-200 canon or my old cine primes and still had to add weight to make it easier to handle. It also handles the gimbal with ease. As for the ring grip, I’ve tried it all. You really want the eyebolt so tilting with the gimbal works better. The only thing is I haven’t tried this camera setup with the ring. I have a feeling that it may help a lot having a stabilized lens.
