I'm going to have to borrow that "return free risk" line. 😂

@masoncnc gets all the credit there. It's a great one, right?

I have brokerage account with my usual bank. They charge pretty high fees for purchasing foreign stuff. It annoyed me at first but I realized those fees prevented me from doing less than smart purchases more than once. Something to keep in mind I guess.
@Nanalyze6 күн бұрын
Yes, you are right. The inaccessibility is probably a good thing. There are plenty of great companies in the United States and an ETF for international exposure will be the most sensible thing to do.
@deepsudeep6 күн бұрын
ADRs are seemless but the fees are quite high. Just paid 1% fees for the year for an ADR
@Nanalyze6 күн бұрын
Good point! If you wouldn't mind, which ADR and how did you determine the fees were that high?

I'm the "bonds are return free risk" guy😊. I'm buying VYMI and holding money market. Still NO bonds
@Nanalyze6 күн бұрын
Yeah we have never held bonds but are somewhat tempted to for diversification purposes.

For what it matters ; which is NOTHING. I feel somewhat vindicated that I own VEU and have been telling friends about it for years.

Around here you matter ;) It's a great way to get exposure to international stocks!

DVYE came into my radar when someone was doing an analysis on the stocks in the ETF and how much cash they hold / how stable in theory it should be.. 🤷♂️ The dividend is outright insane
@sumanadasawijayapala53727 күн бұрын
What's even more insane is how its value has dropped like a rock.
@masoncnc7 күн бұрын
@@sumanadasawijayapala5372 yeah, ouch! that is a terrible chart
@Nanalyze6 күн бұрын
For those not in the know DVYE is an emerging markets ETF which yields about 12%. One of the most important things I learned - both in life, industry, and academics - is that there is no free lunch. There's a reason for that. Dividend payments need to come from somewhere. Joe P.

Love to hear from people all over the world! :) We spent lots of time analyzing these international names and always defaulted to company-published information. I passed your comment over to research to check. If so, we'll adjust our data. Thank you! Joe P.

Analyst got back to me on this. We don’t consider initiation of a dividend to be an increase. So if you do consider that, then yes, 2025 would mark their 26th consecutive increase. But we would consider it their 25th. Joe P.

What about buying American companies with worldwide exposure, like Zoetis?
@sumanadasawijayapala53727 күн бұрын
Or Google or Meta. The main argument for international is diversification which is risk management. Why not invest in all 10,000+ investable stocks? My problem is simply that I don't think indexing works well for all these myriad stocks in different parts of the world. We invest in the US market bc it has a very long track record of going up over time, despite its short-term ups and downs. How well have ex-US indexes done? Yes these indexes are cheap. But in contrast with VTI, you get what you pay for. Currency risk in particular has been a drag on developed markets. There absolutely is alpha outside the US, but you have to look to find it which defeats the purpose of passive investing.
@Nanalyze6 күн бұрын
This is precisely why we have a "international revenues" factor in our Quantigence algo
