Lee's rig is best, but he had no need for the overdrive pedal, that amp sounded great and had plenty of drive. should have picked the blue crystal delay at £40 instead of the durple and would have really added something extra.

As much as I love Orange and I think they really own that budget, high-quality mini amp market, I can't believe how great of a value that Bugera 22 watt tube amp is. And I like the Squier Mustang more than a Squier tele. I liked Lee's rig more.

It’s because the speaker is garbage. The speaker in the Artist alone makes it worth the upgrade. I’ve played plenty of gigs with my Artist and have surprised other guitars with the tone it can get. I even recorded with it. I also have a Fender CS Champ, a Fender Bassbreaker, and a Bad Cat Cub so I’m not short on options. If I go on tour this year, I’m only taking one and it’s the Katana Artist. Of course there’s better sounding amps for the money (pro jr, classic 30), but if you want a reliable, flexible, and sturdy amp, you’d be hard pressed at the price point. Plus it takes care of half my pedal board. Though, I don’t think I’d buy it if I weren’t a gigging guitarist. It’s pretty overkill for a home guitarist and there’s much better options.

@SpacemanXC3 жыл бұрын
No, it's muddy for sure. I've been using a Terror Stamp for the last year, and I had to open it up to turn the pre gain down a quarter turn. That made my gain range a lot more usable. But it's still dirty, so i only use it for a rock sound. If I want metal I use distortion pedals.

The terror stamp really shines as a backup amp or a travel rig. I have one on my board and when I go out of town for work I can just bring my guitar, board, and pair of headphones. I wouldn't want it as my main amp. Pedals also really help in getting more sounds and better sounds.

@@ChrisEck13 It's not the best sounding thing, but it's still really cool. I accidentally left it on for a whole week. No guitar was plugged in, but it was warm to the touch when i noticed it. I'm surprised by the comments I'm reading here. I agree with Rob. The gain sound of the Captains rig sounded bad. Like a bunch of fizzy overdriven garbage. Just because it had a good eq to it doesn't mean it sounds good. If Robs sound had a little more bass and treble it was a far more pleasant gain sound overall. It just wasn't equed well. But fizzy garbage with a good deep bass tone is still fizzy garbage. During the closing jam Rob's rig had a nice classic rock vibe while the Captains rig sounded like my cheap Peavey amp I have in my bedroom or the gain in one of those amps you get with a my first guitar pack.

Genuinely pleased to see this. I got really annoyed by the original version because they walked past a £250 Fender Vaporizer tube amp while saying "you can't do tube for under £500". I even threw a treble booster, strap and cables into my valve 2x10 budget and had change for my £500 garage-punk gigrig. ;) So it's really gratifying to see the Cap has managed at long last to match my £500 valve glory in this challenge. Cap'n. I salute you. In case anyone is wondering, I ended up owning the Fender Vaporizer and a treble-booster (though my own handbuilt germanium rangemaster, not the Screaming Bird from my £500 rig) and have been rocking that set up for nearly a decade. So I stand by my original rig list. :D

I think Chappers rig actually sounds alright for an amp in a pedal type thing. Its never going to compete with a "proper" amp but its useable if you were stuck.
@TheFakeNewsFrog3 жыл бұрын
I’d say it can compete with “proper” amp’s. It is a proper amp after all. Once it’s got a mic in front, a bit of EQ, and it’s placed in a mix… I doubt you would even know it was a cheap one. Obviously if I wanted, let’s say a Dumble SSS sound with clean feedback, it ain’t going to achieve it. But neither is a £5,000 plexi from ‘59. It’s all about the sound your after. Edit: Sylvia Massy’s recording techniques should help dispel the myth that you need an expensive amp. She’ll run a signal through a pickle… You don’t need to spend an arm & leg for good tone.

At $650 you can get a 3 watt Bugera 333XL infinium... I'll take 3 channels and more volume any day, plus infinium is a breeze when it comes time to change tubes. I'd only go with the orange if your absolute favorite artist plays an orange, and you want a budget version of their amp. All Orange amps sound very similar, imo. Otherwise, the orange crush heads are 100 watts, and sell for about 450 alone. I mean, neither one is bad or the "wrong choice" I just think the Bugeras are my preferred choice because they make changing tubes so damn easy lol... but I'm an idiot.

Got my super slick blacked out bullet strat for $110 shipped to my house a couple years ago. It was a great buy, despite a few minor issues that luckily i can fix on my own. Hardly use it now, poor thing. Also, If you have a PA and know how to use a Mic, then any amp is technically gigable. I have gigged with a 15 watt fender frontman with not problem. Looks silly but works. I prefer to have a quieter stage so I don't have to crank my monitors or strain my vocals to hear myself sing. If I'm not singing, then I try to think about the person that is. Now I run in-ear-monitors and the whole experience is now even better, and the soundscape is so much better. People that think they need a 4x12 and 100+watts really don't know much about sound waves, are obviously not concerned about the damage to their ears. Leave the high db's for front of house and keep your stage at the lowest levels possible. Some will say, "Why work your PA so hard?" Well I say if your PA can't handle it then you need to upgrade from 8" speakers to 15's. You don't need to spend a millions dollars to get a really good sound. Other than that, good sounds created for budget. I like it. Behringer has been doing well with Bugera amps.
