I didn't know about the scan skipping function on the Icom's and I must say: This is exactly the way it I would imagine someone doing it properly! When you're hiking with the radio on the side of your backpack + external hand mic on your shoulder straps, single-button "nuisance-delete" function is precisely what you need. Great idea. One of the best videos in a long time! A very good comparison of available handhelds, very well and very competently prepared. By the way, I'm using an Icom ID-52E, and I love it! But your video makes me want to try out other devices, too.

Hello Noah!!! Great comparison. 👍👍👍 I bought and still own die Yaesu FT5 but my choice when leaving the house is always the Icom ID52. The build in speaker is much better than in any other handheld i know. Be aware that when using the ID52 in cold conditions, the manual says that below zero celsius (32 degree F) the battery protection sets TX Power on 0.5 Watts (see manual page 5) !!!! So for sota in winter (or really high sota in summer 😉) better keep the ID52 inside your jacket and use the external microphone/speaker unit. 73 de OE8OPT

First thing you don't want if hilltoping is a direct conversion receiver. If you happen to near any other radio infrastructure will totally de-sence the front end of the direct conversion radio. Best to go with a super hetrodyne receiver being able to have far greater selectivity resulting in little to no de-sence like you get with direct conversion.
