The NAS is a great way to go. Of course you can back up the rest of your world in it too ... movies, applications, data etc. They are generally "network attached" rather than plugged into your computer. I have mine plugged in to the router in my lounge room as the fan can produce a little bit of noise.

That story is nuts, good that you recovered from that L, wow... Studio One tip is golden, funny thing is you did make a video about it some years ago I think, that's where I learned it from haha. Thanks for the pro tips Matty.

Dude!!! I am new to audio, but understand systems... and this breaks my heart. Are you considering a new, streamlined, compound system for your computer by any chance? It could make worlds of difference to both your workflow & turnaround time.

Lol. I have no idea what your are talking about.

I recommend storing everything to traditional hard disk drives because nand flash in SSD drives can only hold charge for so long before all your data is gone. SSD aren't suitable for multi track recording either because of the limited write cycles that would wear out the transistors much faster.

Yes and no. The NAS drives are all traditional hard disks. I don’t agree that SSD’s aren’t suitable. Maybe that could have been an argument for 4 years ago. I don’t think so anymore. But good to always back up. Cause one things for sure. All drives will fail one day.

Hey Matt great video! I’m aware hardrives have expiration dates. I’ve not had one expire on me yet. How long do your hard drives typically last?
@mixedbymatty3 жыл бұрын
So hard to tell man! You just never know. I’ve had drives crash after a year old. I also have a drive that’s over 10 years old and it booted up the other day just fine for a recall if you can believe that.

Do you keep Dropbox syncing the whole time while working, or do you sync manually every once in a while? Would it slow down your computer if it syncs in real time?
@mixedbymatty3 жыл бұрын
I do keep it syncing. I have really fast internet so that helps. Keep in mind I only mix and master. So YMMV when recording. Especially if it’s super high sample rates. But I’ve never had any slow downs with computer and Dropbox.

DROPBOX ! But don't forget to label your tracks properly otherwise you will have a nightmare with files not uploading. - Dropbox goes into detail about this on their site
