Mr. Common Sense, that was a fun program. I am always trying new combos with the limited collection of cymbals I own, but I don’t have a China cymbal. I am going to keep my eyes peeled for a good deal on one. Thank you again for another wonderful lesson.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️

Agreed. The last combo was pretty sweet. I would love to see what Ray Luzier could smash on any of these 😂

Ha! Yeah! He'd make them sound amazing, no doubt.

PGB Artisan Cymbals makes 2 types of China hats. Max who has the channel "Dimsunk" plays a set and makes them sound amazing.

These are some killer setups! Meinl actually has the X-treme stack from their Generation X line, that is a 14" china, and 12" crash, that I saw (among others) Sput use as a hi-hat. I swapped out the 12" crash for a 12" extra dry splash and the combination is crazy. Adding a splash underneath the china also gives the hi-hat more stability, and a more crispy and traditional hi-hat sound, while still being trashy.

Nice! I'm going to have to try some of those. The splash under the china is a KILLER idea. Thanks for the comment!

if I close my eyes I'd think you were hitting a trash can lid 🤷‍♂️

Truly! I’m actually curious to try one of these combinations on a recording and see what they sound like through processing. Not a sound for everyday use, for sure!

Check out some of my videos on different stacks and hi hats and stuff. I was all about putting random cymbals together. Something I don't think I've seen anyone but Billy Ward do is stack cymbals under the ride. That's fun to try as well.

I personally dont think crashes/splashes work very well as hihat tops (and I have tried) they are too thin sounding and washy, there is a reason hihats make awful crashes. its always fun to try out these combos though.

Truth. There are very limited situations where I would actually use these hats, I’ll admit. They might make a good x or remote hat.

Back in the 90s when Zildjian's Oriental line was relatively new I remember them making China hat sets for it that I didn't really get to try at the time but always thought sounded neat. Now I have a Meinl trash stack which I absolutely love but they're very trashy when played loose. These Zildjian combinations kind of strike a balance between those and a regular set of hats, and I'd recommend trying a 17" K China bottom with that 15" A Custom crash if you could, or even a conventional 14" hi-hat top of any medium-to-light variety.

Excellent ideas. I will definitely try those out. I had an older 17" K China that I loved, but sold it (wish I hadn't!). Thanks for the comment!

@@CommonSenseMusician I had the same one. Wasn’t good for metal, but I was using anything I could get my hands on back then

I have half of one of those Oriental Remote Trash Hats(no idea how or where i got it but have had it 30 years) I now have it (10" top " on top of a A custom that I got with a crack and cut down to the same 10" . make a good remote hat. Zildjian really were ahead of the curve with it, it was really out there odd for the 90's you cant even find on the net exactly what options they offered!

@@krusher74 I used to have a 24” Oriental China I ordered from their catalogue that’s no longer available. There was tons of stuff in those catalogues that you’d never find in a store but any one could easily order if you asked.

It sounds like very old B8's lolol sabian jojo mayer vault are the best hi hats ever made, i'll fight to the death over this lolol. Meinl Byzance Dark 13 hats are pretty high up there too if i'm doing metal i just use the sabian aax series. they are the best hands down. Meinl are close contenders.
