Sound advice and a very well made video, thanks for your efforts.

As someone that recently made the switch from VGS to BGBL it was great to see it included as an alternative. Great video! Can't wait to see more.

Glad you liked it! BGBL is definitely tempting to switch over given the significantly lower management fee.

I'm glad to see an Aussie investor recommending an international ETF. I just did an analysis video of VAS on my channel and found it to be quite risky.

What fascinates me is the foreign exchange affect (and/or effect) on ETFs like VGS and its price and future. As you know the Australian dollar can move up or down a lot over time. Do you bring any of this into to your calculations or do you strictly adhere to numbers as they are. A secondary problem to me is the financial safety of foreign assets ETFs, actual and politically, and how you overcome, if necessary, any of this in your thinking.

That’s where ETFs like VGAD come into play. If you’re talking purely ex-Aus international ETFs, then having a ratio of VGS:VGAD, you mitigate any currency risks.

Hi Raymond, as someone investing in their mid twenties, how do you feel about a 30/70 split between VAS/VGS?

I’m young 23 and I’ve been doing lots of research but because I’m young I want to invest more aggressively and just maybe go all into vgs and nasdaq 100 and later on invest in vas would this be a good high risk and high reward and would u recommended this?

Practically how do you allocate a larger or smaller portion to each ETF? For arguments sake if had $1000 and I wanted to invest 60% VGS and 40% VAS, Is it simply a case of purchasing $600 worth of VGS and 400 worth or VAS?
@vincentli106418 күн бұрын
Correct, although one may grow to become more than they other, hence rebalancing may come into play later on.

Thank you for this. Can I ask how you got the data for VGS pre 2014? Im not scrutinising, I am trying to find all of the historical data (pre tech crash) for VGS or equivalent to simulate what I plan on investing (say $1,000 per week), to see how a portfolio would have performed even during the tech crash as I am trying to brace myself for what may happen.

Thanks Raymond - Im keen to setup a VAS/VGS portfolio - what is the best tool to do this with?
@raymondla5 ай бұрын
Hey mate - you'd need a brokerage platform to get started with this. You can check out a video I did recently about this - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qInPmo2Jh8qela8

Very good advice, however I think you are missing the effects of currency movement. How much of the VGS should be currency hedged?
@raymondla6 ай бұрын
Over the long term studies have found that the effects of currency fluctuations to be pretty neutral. If you really do want to hedge against it there’s hedged versions of VGS like VGAD, but this comes with a higher management fee due to the hedging.

Any ideas on a good African and South American etf? I still think long term as they stablise more they have so much potential for growth.

I think if you decided to go with mix of Australian and international shares, it'd be more tax efficient if you invest in Aus shares within super and international shares outside super as much as possible.

Could you compare that with the biggest ETF that has very low fees ? Some of them like VOO has a 0.03 fee, would be better to invest via us ? Could you make a video comparing that ? The pros and cons ?
@raymondla Жыл бұрын
Hey there, whilst the fees are lower for some of the US-based ETFS, you'd have to consider other things that would add to that cost namely: - FX fees to change AUD to USD - Admin overhead from having to fill out W8-BEN forms - ETFs aren't domiciled in the AUS so you can't automatically re-invest dividends

Another awesome video, improve the financial literacy for beginners, would appreciate if you can introduce and compare IVV and NDQ to the portfolio on top of VAS, where some investors focused on American and Australian share market.
