Great video! I always loved Subaru the most because he could literally be any one of us watching. Someone who's just trying to get through life down the best path possible. I think the show does a great job of showing how far we as individuals can truly get by ourselves, as when we start to rely on others the process of getting a better future not only becomes more likely to ourselves, but to those around us too. After reading the IF stories of ReZero, I have to admit that Subaru may be the best written MC in anime. He is such a complex character and it was such a joy to dive deep into Subaru as a character from the main plot and in the IF stories. He offers so much of himself as a character that both anime fans and psychology enthusiasts can both have so much material to have lengthy discussions revolving the premise of the human psyche. I don’t think no other anime character has sparked so many discussions and debates that revolves around human psychology!

Honestly if Subaru wasn't in the story i wouldn't have made it so far in the novels/anime, he really kickstarted my interest in the mystery and lore of this series. I can't wait for arc 6 to get animated i personally think that's the arc where people will really appreciate Subaru's character and his development through the series

People go into Re:Zero expecting regular isekai cliches. I watched some reacters watch the episode where Subaru gets Beatrice to leave the library and their biggest take away was that the next episode was when he would have his show down with the bunnies. I'm not sure if that is the case with your friend, but when I see who straight out don't like Re:Zero that's usually their reasoning.

I love Subaru as a character. He’s truly the catalyst for everything that makes re:zero as a story a masterpiece imo. I have had a bleak outlook on life my entire life but stories like these give me something that feels more real than my own current reality. The lessons he goes through, the challenges he faces diligently, the emotions Subaru feels, they all seem so real to me. Maybe it’s because I find it difficult to connect with people, because people don’t tend to open up easily. But with a fictional character like Subaru, I can fully understand him and his thoughts as I experience the story. Re:zero is my favourite story ever, period. And Subaru is the main reason for that. My expectations for stories and specifically charactisation have gone through the roof since I watched re:zero lmao. Such a complex yet simple character. He’s weak, something I hate myself for, but he’s resilient. He breaks when things get tough, but he always gets back up. He hates pain, but never hesitates to jump into the toughest of situations to save a loved one. He’s gone through hell, but he’s still a teenage dork that cracks jokes. He’s a hero to some, but still makes many mistakes. And I don’t fault him for any of it, because he’s just a human. There’s a reason a lot of the source material readers believe Subaru to be the best character despite there being so many other complex and well-written characters in re:zero. Gotta love him.

I love Subaru’s character design and I wish people discuss this more! What stood out to me is that he has a FOREHEAD (just like me 😂) a lot of anime characters, especially Isekai MCs, always have the same boring bangs hairstyle, some with different hair color of course (like Kazuma Sato, Naofumi Iwatani, Rimuru Tempest, Sora from NGNL, and especially Kirito and his rip-off MCs). So seeing a Isekai MCs with a forehead instead of bangs made me really like him. I also love his outfit, so distinctive and I want one in real life! 😆 Great job on this video, you took the words right out of my mouth!

Haha, Subaru is probably in my top 5 characters of all time, there are of course characters I relate to more (Mashima Taichi, Ike Souji, Mashiro Moritaka). But as a whole I do enjoy what Subaru brought to the series and to me as well.

For me, Subaru is definitely the best written MC in isekai, especially after reading the IF stories. He such a complex characters and adds so many layers to both the main story and the if story that I can’t help to be so fascinated by Subaru,. That’s probably the reason why Echidna showed such much interest to Subaru, a person with an insatiable greed for knowledge will no doubt be attracted to someone like Subaru, because he offers so much complexity and you want to know more about him!

I think that those who hate Subaru as a character are those who dropped the show in season 1. Those who stuck around and watched season 2, get the opportunity to really get to know Subaru as a character and how how flushed and complex he truly is. Which is unfortunate because Subaru is probably one of the best written anime characters right now.

Subaru is such a fascinating MC in Isekai themed anime. Especially after reading all the IF stories and contrasting it to the main plot. I don’t think there was a MC anime character that sparked so much interest where so many people online psycho-analyze a character as much as Subaru.
