For people watching this at the end of 2022, and because table saw tech isn't really going to advance much, I'll throw in my take. I used to have the Bosch 4100-09 and I really liked it. It's a great saw and I would still have it, but had to move and it was one of the large items I decided to sell instead of lugging around with me. I made a lot of nice things on the Bosch, in particular speaker cabinets and some furniture. This year I got the Skilsaw SPT99 and while I haven't had a chance to stress-test it, my initial take is that it is a substantially better saw. A lot of the wear items that are plastic on the Bosch are metal on the Skilsaw. The Skillsaw has a better fence that stays true and the worm drive does provide a tangible increase in cutting power. The Skilsaw worm drive saws have lower no-load RPM ratings, but generally they maintain the RPM better under load than direct drive saws will...and if you want a portable table saw then the Skilsaw is definitely the way to go even in 2022.

Well as a cabinet maker who takes a full workshop with me to the job site I can honestly say that my DeWalt never let me down. With close to 10 years of abuse. i bought mine with the older style folding stand. Having said all that, semi retired now and I needed a new table saw on wheels (66 years old...me not the saw) and i got a great deal on the Bosh which I love. I would take either one to a job site. That's my two cents.

I had the Dewalt 7491RS before I replaced it with the Flexvolt model due to space limitations in my van. That was the only reason, besides going cordless of course. I had none of those issues that you pointed out. The fence on mine was rock solid with no play, the riving knife slipped in and out in secounds, power was never lackning, transportation was easy once you got used to the folding legs. I noticed that you made a wrong move there, the lower legs can be folded simply with your foot.

I have a dewalt saw. It's okay. You got to take it slow with lumber if you want a nice finish accurate cut. The fence sucks. The saw has crapped out on me several times and I maintain it well. But still works. I got different brand tools that work best for what I need. Found out One brand doesn't rule them all. Bull. But did like the skill saw. My buddy has it. Spent the day collaborating on projects and I used that saw. Damn. Feels like a Cabinet Saw Shop minus the fence. I'm not about brands. They're all give and take on different products. But that machine damn well works with 2x4, 4x4, 2x6 and 2x8. That worm drive sold me. I got a 6 1/2 rigid cordless saw they dont make anymore with a worm drive. Love it. Milwaukee surge impact drill. Love it. Dewalt cordless framing circular saw. Love it. You can love your brand. But I love good work without worrying. That Skill Saw spt99-11 is a solid work horse. And that's what I want. It's just a machine. I'm not faithful to the brand. That's my money. That machine quality should be faithful to me.

I looked at the Bosch, Dewalt and the Makita at Three different stores so I could make a good average assessment of the three makes and all 3 Dewalts had the most stable and accurate fence. Plus having picked up each demo I thought the Dewalt was the easiest to lift and load.

I really like my Dewalt. The rack and pinion system is awesome and the saw does everything I need it to do. I’m far from a Dewalt fan boy. I don’t buy their cordless tools. I have too many dead drills to waste any more money on those. When I was shopping for a job site saw though, I saw that rack and pinion system and immediately knew it was the saw for me. It is so easy to dial the fence in precisely where I want it and there is no need for a measuring tape when using that saw. I completely disregard the ratings on all of the safety features. That junk comes off my saws before I ever plug it in for the first time. Trying to work around cumbersome safety devices is far more dangerous in my opinion. I’ve never had a close call with a table saw and can’t imagine a situation where I will. My digits stay away from the spinning wheel of death.

As to the Dewalt, the fence can be aligned by simply loosening the black lock down studs on the front and rear fence bar and adjusting the fence to either the blade or miter slot. Also the Dewalt comes with two riving knives. One for the blade guard and one for used as a stand alone with the blade only. I also noted that you were not properly installing the riving knife on the Dewalt. You should remove the blade cover plate so you can see the slot where the riving knife fits. Trying to do it in the "blind" is very difficult.

For two years I've been reviewing compact table and mitre saws and finally bought a Dewalt table saw last week. I looked at Rigid, Makita, Hitachi, SkilSaw, Harbor Tools, Delta, and Bosch and in terms of price, positive reviews and longevity, I chose the Dewalt. I also never saw any product information or heard of a SawStop. I bought the DW745. There is no way I wanted to spend more than $500 on a residential compact table saw, which I'm going to use for hobby projects and minor woodworking. I also wanted something that as a female I could easily move, while many of these table saws weighed over 75 lbs, which also made the Dewalt a clear winner at just under 50 lbs.

The SawStop issue reminds me of the story from year when the Eppipen (the lifesaving self injection syringe for those who have allergies) jumped from $60 to $300 each because the product was purchased by a different company and the owner of the company raised the cost. SawStop could sell many more saws by lowering the cost a bit and they would be saving more people from harm if they did.

Obviously you can’t expect to make everyone happy with your scoring but here are a couple of things you missed. The Dewalt has a lock mechanism that makes the fence very solid, it has a separate riving knife. You also dinged its miter gauge while complimenting the Sawstop’s cheesy plastic one. The biggest thing you left out of your comparison was rip capacity; 32” for the Dewalt 25” for the Sawstop. I love Sawstop - I’m planning on buying one of their cabinet saws - but this one has too many limitations for the price.

VERY important note on the Skilsaw ! The Skilsaw 99-12 was tested, it is NOT the one sold at the box stores. The 99-12 has a larger motor and much better fence than the box store model . It has a short auxilary fence that flips into place for extra hand clearance on close rips, the same auxilary fence drops below table height and acts as a material support for the main fence on wide rips It also has a rip capacity of 30.5 inches and the tube frame of the stand is set to table height to act as a material support left of table. I've had this saw a couple months and couldn't be happier with the power and the design features.

@@868_4_Life The saw has held up well. The amount of torque still impresses me and I appreciate the push stick always being easy to get to. I have had two issues. The fence lock stopped working one day in very cold weather and had to be adjusted and the lift mechanism has developed a small amount of play so that I am having to put a little (very little) lift at the rear of the motor while raising the blade to keep it from binding. I think I can adjust that but haven't tried yet. All in all I've been happy with this machine.

I have used the Makita and Sawstop at different times for residential finish carpentry. The Sawstop wins by far. One thing you can't test out on first glance is longevity. The cheap plastic gears under the Makita table saw shear off and get clogged full of sawdust even with routine dusting; this combined with the glide bearings loosening (resulting in binding) make it a right bitch to adjust. You can counteract this with maintenance and careful operation but I would rather use the Sawstop with the added benefit of finger safety.

Just so everyone knows, coptool is authored by Ohio Power Tool (you can see this if you click on their "about" tab). This company does not sell Dewalt, they do sell Bosch, Makita, Sawstop, and Skilsaw. This isn't an objective review. It's a review geared towards selling more of their products. It's pretty obvious by how they rate the Dewalt.
@ToolShow
@ToolShow 6 жыл бұрын
Chris we are affiliated with Ohio Power Tool, we try not to hide that which is why it's on top of every page of www.coptool.com and in all bios and mentioned frequently. Coptool works as independently as possible so we can get the best results. Coptool's testing and results is much more likely to guide what Ohio Power Tool recommends and sells than vice-versa. We have many tests where Dewalt has won or been 2nd, in the recent "Most Innovative Tools of 2017" Dewalt was the Winner (kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5i6fmiMntynY9km32s ). We thought going in to this test it would middle or top of the pack because of it's popularity, again these were all super close in power testing it was not as definitive as we were hoping, so it came down to things like movement in the fence and other smaller details. Again it could be just this one saw that might have had some issues or less power than typical that might of skewed this for any of the tools tested. You should also know most, if not all Tool Review Channels are sponsored by tool brands and/or retailers so you should always be somewhat skeptical of the results, we try to be as upfront as possible about that which is not always the case with others.

I like the makita. It does cost more, but you get real tangeble benefits for the money like smooth ramp up and low rpm loss under load, both contribute to keeping your breaker from being thrown. It's also the quietest, one of the most accurate out of the box, and I'm pretty sure it's the only one with a off-break. I think it goes very under appreciated how much more comfortable a few decibels and a rapid off-cycle is until you have to deal with a ripsnot freewheeling saw.

I have that exact model Dewalt and have used it plenty over the past 4 years. I added a Ridge carbide blade, zero clearance insert, and JessEm rollers (router version) attached to a Rocker aluminum fence. I posted a photo on my Amazon review. It works great, but like all table saws......isn't perfect. The tabletop is a bit small and isn't dead flat like you would find on a cast iron saw. The miter slot is also a bit sloppy. And in my case, the fence has a tendency to lift upwards because of the force of the rollers pushing down.....but this was fixed by drilling a hole in the plastic fence bracket and adding another lockdown bolt. Out of the 5 saws reviewed, I would most likely choose this one again. The Saw-stop is nice, but you're approaching hybrid saw pricing.

While it is a little suspicious that the saw they don’t sell came in last place, I agree with the winner here. There is another great 8 saw head-to-head review where the Skilsaw places 3rd. That review, like a lot of negative reviews out there about this saw, seems to be too critical of it’s “out of the box” accuracy. I disagree with this because I think ANY saw you buy should be calibrated for performance and safety. Also, every saw you buy is going to vary slightly within each brand. You can’t just assume perfect out of box setup based on a review of 1 saw. Maybe if you tested 100 of each you’d get a more accurate review, but even so, I’d still calibrate my new saw. In this age, I’m just not brand-loyal anymore. I used to love Hitachi, and still lean that way on a coin-flip. However, Almost everything is made in China or overseas now, and there are way too many resources like these reviews to help you decide what’s best for you. If you are still brand-loyal, then just buy your brand and be happy...No need to run out and get your Dewalt tattoo covered or get all worked up over somebody else’s opinion. I was actually narrowed down to the Skilsaw and Dewalt, but chose the better motor, torque, and stand.

I also bought the Skilsaw SPT99-11 which is the HD portable worm drive table saw for the times where I need to take the saw to the work LOL....the Grizzly table saw is great, but its a bit of a chore to move it LOL. All these safety analyses seem lacking, although this article touches on some of them: A blade guard, riving knife, pawls, and a push stick are all de rigueur at this point, as they are required by law. The real questions that need to be asked in safety comparisons should be: 1. The most obvious: is it a sawstop? 1a. Why is sawstop blocking the adoption of similar technologies in the U.S., like the one Bosch developed, while at the same time lobbying to make it a requirement? 2. Can you rip thin strips without removing the blade guard with the aid of a flip over auxiliary fence, or even better, a thin Euro-style blade guard like the sawstop has? 3. Can you use the blade guard while cross-cutting thick workpieces, or when using a tall auxillary fence on your miter guage? 4. Can you use the blade guard with the riving knife in its low position to facilitate quick transitions from non-through cuts to through cuts and back? 5. Does the saw have an electric blade brake? This is always overlooked and is very important. Notably it's required in Europe. 6. Is the saw accurate out of the box so that your first cuts don't bind? 7. Does the insert plate design allow for easy fabrication of a zero clearance insert in a home workshop with limited tools that will stay in place and allow passage of the riving knife through the insert? 8. Does it accommodate dado blades? If so, is there a dado insert plate available? Europe doesn't allow the use of dados for safety reasons.

The dewalt has a separate riving knife. At $450US I don't see how this was rated so low in the price category. The safety guard, riving knife, vacuum port, kickback guard is a work of genius. Like all saws you have to raise the blade to full height to insert the riving knife. Just remove the zero clearance plate to insert then replace. Too easy. Saying it just gets in the way is careless. The fence is certainly solid enough. And the rip capacity is the best. And can accomodate a dado stack.

WOW!!! This review makes me so happy. For about a year now I had my heart set on the Dewalt. I have a Bosh 12" Glide Compound Miter Saw. I also use Bosch for my routers. I have Dewalt drills and brad nailers. I have a few Skilsaw circular saws. So I'm not set on any brand per se. Last month I logged on to Amazon to buy the Dewalt table saw but decided to do one last sanity check on what was out there. That's when I saw the new Skilsaw job site table saw. After looking at the specs and using my common sense I came to the same conclusion y'all did in this review. I went ahead and bought one and it has been simply amazing. This review wasn't on KZbin when I purchased my Skilsaw table saw and I am so glad that it is available now. You basically say all the things that I have been telling my mates for the past month about how awesome the Skilsaw is. It eats through everything I throw at it. Amazing power. The miter gauge sucks and I wish the power cord was longer. But that's being very picky and honestly...what factory miter gauges DON'T suck. Big wheels! Can't go wrong. Let's try and convince the luggage manufacturing sector of that also :) Great review and feel totally vindicated in my decision to go with the Skilsaw.

Alex, we've been very impressed by the SkilSaw for value, wormdrive power and other features. We've still found some small annoyances like you said but if you want to use it for more precision work you should consider some upgrades on any "jobsite" table saw. To be fair to the Dewalt here we deliberately picked 5 great pro saws we think are all good for professional use. We left out some other options from Ridgid, Hitachi, Delta and others which we would guess Dewalt likely would outperform many of those as it still really is a good saw.
@alexreid4131
@alexreid4131 6 жыл бұрын
Agree with you 100%. For me the worm drive technology, oversized wheels, gravity rise stand (which is almost magical in that I can operate it with two fingers!), larger engine (over older Skilsaw table saw) with faster cooling were all huge plus points for me. The main reason I was going with the Dewalt was the 32" rip capacity (right hand side) and rack and pinion fence. Since the Skilsaw has a 30.5" rip capacity and essentially the same (but more stable) rack an pinion fence.....it was a no brainer. Add to that that it's $499 from acmetools.com and they throw in a free Skilsaw sidewinder circular saw and it's a win all round. Spent the whole weekend behind my table saw making cuts for a project and it was an absolute pleasure. Thanks again for the awesome review. I just subscribed :-)

Yes, they do and they did. I'm just saying I, as a USA consumer, have less choice. SawStop's patents were issued in the 2000s. They tried in 2014 to make the patent standards essential. Why other manufacturers have not licensed SawStop's IP and incorporated them into products would be really interesting to know. Regardless, these patents will expire in two to three years. More brands of table-saws with flesh-detection safety features should be available then and, hopefully, at lower pricing levels.

It's inexplicable. People buy on "Feels". Seems like every single Dewalt product I've bought I've either sold used because it was inferior to the competition, or I could see a significant "Dumb" aspect to it. Biscuit cutter had waaaay too much slop. Lets not even discuss the compressor, OMG. The 13" planer sniped and just never could feed properly, really feel like I got a lemon. The 12" version (one model down) I replaced it with is way better but the design of the chip collector and how it screws on is nuts because you can't swing up the outfeet platter, which means the tool takes 2x the space to store. Arrrrg, it's always SOMEthing with them haha, too bad because otherwise it's a very good machine.

That Dewalt is a very popular saw, and honestly one that someone should consider. I have a Skilsaw SPT99-11 which is the heavy duty worm drive portable table saw, but if I were on jobsites all the time the value saw would be that Dewalt for sure as they're extremely popular all over the country, and the price is pretty reasonable. The Ridgid would be a good contender as well with its lifetime service agreement. In the 23 years I had the Ridgid TS3612 contractor table saw, the only thing I replaced on it was several blades, and the drive belt...its still a great saw, other than the fact that my uncle has it now LOL.

@ToolShow
@ToolShow 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! SawStop is the only saw with a brake. Bosch includes soft start circuitry and the Skilsaw effectively has soft start through their worm drive motor. The Dewalt, Makita and SawStop do not utilize soft starts. I can't say which has the best dust port as they're all relatively the same when used with a vac. However, if you don't have a vac, Skilsaw has a 45 deg. elbow attachment for their dust port so you could point down to a bucket and collect some of the debris. We've run tests on noise but didn't find much of a difference in each model.

I bet the people at Sawstop weren't too happy hearing they only beat a Skill saw by 1 point. The concept of Sawstop is great but it's not like their saws are head and shoulders above everyone else in quality. If you keep the blade guard on, you don't have to worry nearly as much about cutting yourself. The problem was that most saws weren't made to have a guard so a lot of people hurt themselves. But more people hurt themselves due to kick back than cutting themselves. When Sawstop gives their statistics they fail to note injuries due to kickback are included.

This is the only video that I have watched that claims the Dewalt has issues with the fence or tool storage. It seemed as though SkilSaw had a lot to do with how the categories were graded. This is also the first video that has graded the SkilSaw well in power and accuracy. Just by watching this video, I can tell that I wouldn’t subscribe to this channel. Not a lot of integrity in the review. While I agree that the SawStop is probably the better of the five because of the safety, the DeWalt is clearly a better saw that the others. Good luck Cop Tool at being able to maintain a following with this kind of skewed testing.

I bog that saw out all the time ripping hardy. I do however love the 32 1/2" rip it makes, though it would be nice if the extension arms have more strength to them. You do have to watch out after ripping a mitre to set back to true, the fence is stupid easy to line back up. The issues I've mentioned are easy to overcome, but it is underpowered and I have used the bosch one as well with my biggest peeve being it's a pita to clean.

I was after a Sawstop, but given availability and shipping issues I went with a Grizzly that arrived within a few days vs an unknown shipping date ugg....oh a Sawstop will still end up in the shop at some point in the future for sure, but the Grizzly is getting everything done that I need...the Sawstop when I get it will have the extended rip fence, and the nice outfeed table and dust collection setup too....I gotta get the shop fixed up and everything first so I have the room I need for that Sawstop. The Sawstop isn't that much more expensive overall given the features it has and the safety system it has.

I have had my Sawstop for 3 years and have never set off the safety feature, so I don't worry about the $75. Good for you for being a woodworker for 40 years without ever having a injury. I have been driving my car for almost 30 years without a accident but I still put my seatbelt on. There is no correlation between a accidental injury and your years of practice. Like I said being a 17 year Firefighter/Paramedic I have yet to respond to a 911 industrial accident where the person told me they did it on purpose. Accidents can happen to any of us. Its a personal decision that we all must make but the $500 one time premium is a worth while insurance for not only me but my family by preventing a injury that would cost me my career.
