I was on the fence about this, and I was looking forward to a SkilSaw for the past few years, but now I'm definitely leaning on the DeWalt. The DeWalt stand is more much stable by far and compact, which makes a huge difference when tetrising and organizing tool in my vehicle. The knife is set better, the fence rides better, the throat plate is better, the push stick is positioned and secured in a better place... Hands down, I'm a believer now, I can't believe it. I was really set on the SkilSaw because of the worm drive and the dust port accessory. Not no more. Thank you for your video. It really helped me make up my mind.

DeWalt owner here: There are two holes on the blade wrenches that match the diameter of the fence lugs, and are spaced however far the two fence positions are supposed to be. So the procedure is square the fence in the outer position, then use the wrench to set the position of the outer lugs, and it will be the correct distance and square.

I've used my Dewalt for everything from fine woodworking to rough carpentry. I switch between driving knife to blade guard a lot so I really appreciate the easy of making the change. My favorite feature is that fence. Dead accurate and butter smooth. My only complaint is dust control. Mediocre at best for a shop saw.

Great video, Mike! When I retired in 2020, I bought the DeWalt 8.25 table saw because I was intimidated by table saws then. Many projects later, I wish I would have bought a 10 inch. Pining for DeWalt to introduce a contractor table saw and I would scarf that up. However Skilsaw makes quite the impression! I’m content with what I have, but you make a strong case for upgrading for me! Take care, man!

Hello Daniel! Thank you! You bring up a good point and Ive often wondered why these top tool companies stay away from contractor sized saws. Fair bet there's less profit but it would be awesome to see more competition and choices for the consumer in that segment. Thanks as always for watching!

Well, the overriding factor for any table saw and what makes them do what they do is the fence. I like the skil stand and love that you can rip a 2x4 or 4x4 in one go I still have to give it to dewalt...it just edged out the skil with it's smooth fence and riving knife setup and accurate scale.

I agree that riving knife release is seriously cool! I’ve been contemplating which one I’d buy if I have to decide and I’m still on the fence. Wish I could combine the best features of both into one amazing saw. Thanks for watching Arthur!

I bought the skil and haven't had a chance to actually use it. The fence has a defect. I ordered a replacement fence and it also had the exact same defect. The first fence broke on the front clip where the metal hinge pin is located. The plastic is cracked on both, and on both ends after closer inspection. Does it function to lock in place? So far yes. The original one I had used super glue to repair. Quite the disappointment for a brand new saw. It would be interesting to know if yours has this same defect. A hairline crack in the plastic where the wrist/hinge pin holds the end clip. If they'd had offered just new plastic end parts, that would be all that is needed if swapped yourself. If not, a replacement fence is about $87.

I’ve got the skilsaw at home, and I frequently use a coworkers dewalt (carpenter). The dewalt is awesome, and might be slightly nicer build quality. I’d buy the skilsaw again though! The stand is absurdly good. You can do stairs with one hand! The extra left hand support from the stand is really excellent design, and makes ripping sheet goods much safer. The dust port is better on the skilsaw, and will shoot straight down into a 5 gallon bucket. A note on the fence: my skilsaw is smoother than the dewalt, cause the work one is crammed full of sawdust haha. Both move smoother with the knob. Moving the dewalt once it’s set up is annoying. I’m going to bring my skilsaw into work and see what my coworker thinks! Cheers

Hey Mr.Mike The Tape measure is a EASY fix on the SKILL Simply take your tape measure. MARK 6' 12" 18" and 24" next to the TAPE with a FINE FELT PIN. I actually marked mine on the FACE/Tape area thru the 90* bend. Took my Heat Gun. Heated the 24 end. with a RAZOR I just lifted it carefully. TAKE HEAT gun. Slowly Peel the tape with the HEAT to soften the STICKY and peel it up to about the Last Inch. (( I am right handed had tape in Left Hand. Heat guy in Right. PEELED it back to the last INCH....)) Put heat gun down. and now with Right hand. STICK the 6" with a slight pull. to align properly. Then 12" Pulll to stick down at 12" then 18" and 24"..... ALL MY Measurements were done with fence and tape measurement CONFIRMED....... The RED marker on the slider works GREAT to draw next too. etc etc EASY FIX.

After my 25 yo Rigid died, I replaced it with this Skil. I’m strictly DIY but with a small shop. The bulk work needs to done outside. The sled was the deciding fact, since I have to roll over grass and bumps. Since then, the torque monster has been great for ripping pressure treated lumber and the cutting depth comes in handy every now and then.

saw this comparison highlighted on the Tool Show, came over to have a look. Impressed by your thorough unbiased review. I came in with the thought that the DeWalt was the best from my research, but MAN the skillsaw stand and 1 person operation has me questioning myself..... Thanks for a great comparison video. For me, the Skilsaw will work better. My shop is pretty small, so any time I can cut wood outside on the lawn, it’s one less shop cleanup for me. With that awesome stand and those big wheels, I’d have no problem rolling it out the door, even over the fairly high sill. Just turned 65, just retired and just got the shop built, after whining about not having a proper shop for 40 years, lol, so it’s time to replace all my cheap saws, (table saw, miter saw etc), with bigger, better ones. Folks like yourself who make these videos really help a bunch, with your insight. Cheers!

The point of a contractor saw is that it needs to be portable on that fact alone. The skill is hands down the winner. When you consider all the other features, it's really a toss-up. I measured my Tape measure on the front of the saw once not off I don't know if I got lucky or if they fixed it but I don't have an issue. I also don't have an issue with my fence. I have a lot of hours on the shop. And it still works as good as the day about it. I don't have any negatives about the Dewalt, Dewalt makes great equipment. But for portability, nobody beats the skil.

Its due or a refresh at least but its still a popular saw and I think its still competitive. Thanks for watching!

That Skillsaw motor and worm gear gearbox looks absolutely incredible. They built that motor and worm drive way more beautiful than it needs to be, and it's almost worth buying just because of that motor and gearbox. They even have their name cast into the side of the solid metal motor housing (not a plastic motor like 99% of brushed motors). I have to say, I am so happy that I live in a timeline where Skillsaw is a premium brand that is still commercial quality. Something you didn't mention in your Skil table saw review is that you were able to rip a 4x4 beam all the way through without flipping it over. Skil and Skillsaw have found a way to give you an extra 1/2" of cutting depth compared to the Dewalt. That's a huge factor for a person who uses 4" thick lumber. The way they positioned the motors is genius.
@ProjectsForAllReviews
@ProjectsForAllReviews 10 ай бұрын
I agree with you the motor housing on worm drive saws is a little like art. I also have a couple hand saws sitting around, a vintage who’s model number eludes me and a newer Mag77. Love the look of both. I try not to harp on aesthetics too much in the reviews. In the end it doesn’t matter much for a tool. Thanks for watching Ritalie!

I’ve owned the Skilsaw for 5 years. My measuring scale is bang on, the fence is smooth to move and I have no wear at all compared to the video. Can’t account for the difference compared to the sample in the video. I own all DeWALT power tools aside from my table saw. I selected the Skilsaw over DeWALT when deciding to purchase because: 1. Ease and speed of setup, collapsing and moving the saw (I’ve never found it less than fully stable); 2 the Worm Drive; 3. It can rip a 4x4 beam all the way through without flipping it over - the DeWALT can’t; 4. The outfeed attachment and handle work support are super convenient - less need to set up other supports. If you have a restricted area for your workshop and need to collapse your saw after each use like I do, you’ll find the stand alone will make it worth buying the Skilsaw. I love all my DeWALT tools, but I feel my Skilsaw was hands down the best purchase for my needs.

I fight the fence on my VERY old Delta saw now, and it even stops me from doing projects because of the hassle. I like the stand on the SKIL, but the deciding factor was the difference of how smooth the fence was on the DeWalt compared to the Skilsaw. I also like that outfeed support on the Skilsaw and which the Dewalt had that feature. The DeWalt fence still gets my vote and would be why I pick the DeWalt.

I purchased a Skill SPT77WM circular saw, in September of 2023. That saw is a beast. Anyone using one of those better have a good grip on it before squeezing the trigger, or that thing will kick like a mule. On materials like southern yellow pine, that motor doesn't even pause at all, it just cuts through it like a hot knife through butter. If that Skill table saw is built the way my circular saw is, it should be a winner.

I used to buy only DeWalt power tools many years ago until I found out they were bought out Black & Decker. I was afraid DeWalt would go hill in quality but have recently learned they haven't change a thing and DeWalt is still making high quality power tools. The cost is another concern. DeWalt prices are high. If the skill table saw can match the quality, power and price is cheaper than the DeWalt, I'll be buying the skill.

Hello Mike. Just bought the Dewalt. Was leaning toward the Skillsaw as mentioned in one of my earlier comments because of its 16" wheel stand and worm drive but switched last minute. Love the DeWalt but having a problem with throat plate, havent been able to find anything and wondering if you have same. At 8:30 of your video you show the exact spot with issue. The black inserted area on the right between blade and fence is approximately 1 to 1-1/2 wide you will notice that the yellow part of the throat plate wraps around to the back of the black. The black is quite a bit lower than the yellow which almost gave me an unpleasant experience yesterday. Screw adjustments do nothing for the issue because the black inserted area is captured within the main plate. Its only a problem when you are cutting a piece that is less than the width of the black, the black becomes the support and your piece hits the yellow back edge past the blade. Why the heck is that black even there? Watched this video several times, subbed and enjoy your style. Thank you!

Wow, such a true through and through review. I have both this skilsaw and another smaller Dewalt table saw. I want this Dewalt so bad though! I agree with everything you brought up in the comparisons. After coming from multiple higher end table saws and even my little Dewalt flex volt (daily job site use), when I first used the skilsaw it honestly felt like a junky toy. The smoothness and quality and craftsmanship just isn’t there. I do really really like the stand and how mobile it is… but ripping full sheets by myself is pretty darn sketchy as you can literally end up pushing the saw over due to the wobble. That’s kinda what did it for me. Very annoying to not be able to trust a nice straight cut knowing your saw will move out from under you… to me and probably most ppl, the rip capacity is what tips the scales. Depth of cut is nice but you can always just flip the piece over if need be so not that important for a contractor saw. But being able to rip 32+ inches is a hugeeeeee deal. Also one has to add oil to the worm drive if I’m not mistaken? In any case, the craftsmanship, thought put into the riving knife, rock solidness, and rip capacity make this an easy choice. I would only choose the skil if I needed to traverse rocky terrain up and down a mountain every single day.

After looking over the reviews on both Amazon and HD, I thought it would be the way to go. I loved the stand on the Skilsaw and the wheels definitely will handle rougher terrain. The Skilsaw cost less, but when I saw the DeWalt dropped $100 in price, I decided to pull the trigger. If I'm spending my money on a product, I don't want to have to "fix" something to make it function correctly, right out of the gate, so I'm happy with my choice. I own the DWE7491RS (and never used the Skilsaw). I can attest to the rock-solid stability of the Dewalt stand. I think if I was still installing wood floors and needed a lot of mobility with my table saw, where I'd be moving it daily to and from different jobsites, it looks like the Skilsaw's stand might be beneficial. Dewalt's is not very comfortable to move around. However, because I keep my table saw in the same place most of the time, and only occasionally move (mostly when cleaning), I really appreciate the stability provided by the Dewalt, and I don't think I'd like the front-to-back wobble from the Skilsaw. I can further attest to the smooth action of the Dewalt fence. I have adjusted its width and switched from fence-up to fence-down configuration hundreds of times in the three years I have owned it, and it still remains smooth and accurate. All this to say, for a woodworker needing a dedicated table saw and not needing a lot of mobility, I think I'd stick with Dewalt. But if I needed jobsite mobility, I'd at least consider the Skilsaw. Edit: I also have no need of a portable outfeed support, I use a custom-made workbench for that. But on a jobsite, I could definitely see where that outfeed support for the Skilsaw might be beneficial, depending on what you're using it for. Yet again reinforcing my initial impression that the Skilsaw might be be better for the working man needing mobile use. Second edit: thanks for your thorough review.

After watching this video and reading through the comments, it's Skilsaw for me. I want to use it to build a large shed and need to make a lot of cuts on 4x8 sheets and 4x4 posts. Having support from the foot of the stand for panels is huge, and so is the ability to buy a rear outfeed stand. Skilsaw can cut a depth of 3 5/8ths while DeWalt can only cut 3 1/8th so it can't do posts without flipping it over. Since I plan on using a lot of rough cut wet lumber from my chainsaw and planer, Skilsaw's worm drive seems like a winner. I would have loved to see an even thicker dado on wet wood to try and see what the DeWalt's limit is

Only thing I didn’t notice you mention is price. I bought the Skilsaw for 2/3 the price of the Dewalt. Interestingly, I don’t have the issue with the tape, although I do have a wear spot on the rail. I’ve never trusted the tapes though and always measure using my tape measure or occasionally a rule.

My 10" Kobalt 10152 is 35" tall, the blade to fence length is only 28 7/8. The quick-release undercarriage/portability base is much like Skilsaw's, but the wheels are much smaller, and plastic. The base is very sturdy, however. It has a 15 amp motor, so powers through pretty much everything. When I bought it, it was on sale for $299.00 (at Lowes). The included all-purpose blade works fine for all general construction lumber, but I would buy a better blade for hardwoods. I've both ripped and cross-cut boards and plywood with no problems using that blade. The push stick thingy rests on top of the fence in a spring-loaded channel on top. Very handy. All in all a very good tool for cheap! Edit: I do NOT like the Dewalt stand-- those legs are spindly, and the back legs are, indeed, a trip hazard. Especially in a shop. No part of my stand is in the way of the table (looks like Dewalt bit it pretty bad with that handle in the way on the left of the table).

I have the skilsaw table saw. It is quite good relatively speaking, however if I was to do it again I’d buy a sawstop without hesitation. Additionally I will saw the motor on a jobsite saw just isn’t in the same league as a cabinet saw that runs 220volt… I’m hard to please so I’d be going 220 sawstop despite the cost

Friend, make sure you check out the sawstop cause I bought one and I am very discouraged by the fence. It flops about and is nearly impossible to lock down straight. At about 19min in, the Skilsaw seems to have borrowed A LOT from the Bosch. My old Bosch has the same rear outfeed table, a really similar throat plate, a very similar looking table, etc. of course the Bosch worm drive circ saw is pretty much identical to the Skilsaw Mag77…so, ther’s that.

Mine doesn't make the squeaking rail noise and stops fast.(im surprised the one in the video is actually stops slow, might be one of the first gen). I do remove the bolts for transportation in a loaded van. It's super easy. I use saw horses and plywood for outfeed and also use as a work station.

I am contemplating getting the Dewalt. I love the larger wheel size of the Skil, but since the wheels on the Dewalt are not touching the floor when it's setup for cutting (unlike the Skil), the wheel diameter shouldn't be an issue during cutting, so couldn't I just replace the small wheels for larger ones making it easier to move around when not cutting?

Mostly depends on what benefits your work load and needs, however I don't own either one of these but I would choose DeWalt because it seems it is more precision built and better thought out in more things. Some of the items on the Skill just seem somewhat cheap. The stand simplicity and efficiency of the Skill is hands better. Very much a toss up though.

I was down at Lowes looking at the DeWalt, they did not have the Skil in stock, but I really liked the Metabo (Hitachi, Japan, 1910) HTP Model #C10RJSM, note that the official latest reversion is S, and this is an M. It is normally $599, with $100 off while supplies last. I like the rack and pinion, it was smoother than, or as smooth as the DeWalt, I thought it might be me, so I asked the salesman, who tested both and thought the same thing. I like the rack and pinion on the angle adjustor, slap a magnetic angle finder on it, and you can dial it in easy. I watched all your table saw reviews, yours are the best. This would be a good saw to review, it is better than the Hitachi, and although they look the same, there are many improvements. What do would recommend out of these 3?
