The bottle sling knot is an awesome way to secure a bottle while hiking/camping or at your next tailgate to go hands-free (so you can enjoy your BBQ). It's a complicated knot with a lot of steps, but I'll try to break it down.

This is a handy knot. I use it for Gatorade bottles. My experience is that when you're the only one carrying a beverage cuz you're the one with the cool bottle knot, suddenly everybody on the family walk will want a drink from your bottle. User beware.

This knot is better than the barrel knot when the tied object (bottle or log or whatever weird shape) has a protrusion around it to hold it,from underneath without slipping like a bottle does in its so called neck), because it still allows the bottle to be hidden neatly in a tight pocket and also allows the bottle to stand without falling over from rope underneath it. But for else the barrel knot is great.Because Not every object has such a feature .

Better presentations of this knot out there. Does not use proper line terminology, etc. Does not recommend cordage sizes most appropriate to bottle neck, etc. To improve, would lay out knot/hitch periodically to show what is where and when. Remember, if one is trying to teach a knot, one should show landmark steps so when someone else tries it from memory, they will have references to confirm they are on the right track, or if they forget, at least they will get to a point an be able to improvise (ie: running the line to tie the knot instead of this hitch variant to put the knot on).
