Your video for some unknown reason popped up. I decide to watch the video. Then watched all tour videos. Wish all doctors would make you feel comfortable. I would probably fly to your location if considering any eye surgeries

I had cataract surgery last year(laser), with LAL implants. I am satisfied with the lenses, but I failed to find-out how many adjustments would be needed, and the treatments were done at the practice's home clinic, not at their surgery center close to my home. Driving home on the freeway, with my eyes dilated wasn't much fun. It's my fault for not asking more questions, before selecting LAL. I enjoy your videos. 👍👩⚕

Thanks for sharing your experience! The additional visits for treatments is definitely one of the few downsides of the lens.

Great to see you back Dr. Lee! I just had cataract surgery on one eye and plan to get the other eye done in a week. Could you please do a video on how to optimize your cataract surgery AFTER the surgery? I had astigmatism and very bad vision in my left eye. I got a toric lens in that eye. I've found that my sight seems better a week later after I go out more and use my eyes for distance vision more often. For the first several days, I just sat in front of my computer and worked at home. I don't know if it's true or not, but I feel using your distance vision more after surgery and not sitting in front of your computer all day is beneficial. Thank you!!

I have to make a decision between monovision, multifocal, or LAL. I was leaning monovision but now you have me leaning LAL. I've watched most of your videos from the past year, which have helped, but I should've watched this one first, lol.

Isn’t the choice kind of determined by how much your insurance is willing pay?
@lucabrasi507012 күн бұрын
People wanting any premium lens will have to pay a few grand for that. No insurance pays for them. Some people don’t care how much it cost, some are restricted by cost.

Have you ever dealt with a patient who had a traumatic injury to one of their eyes that resulted in a traumatic cataract? I’m 26 and was in a car accident and now have cataract in my right eye from the impact. I wear glasses for astigmatism. I have to choose an IOL but am conflicted on which would be best in this scenario as I will only be getting the surgery in the one eye. My surgeon recommended the PanOptix but that one supposedly has a lot of glares/halos and with how young I am I really want to be able to drive at night. So I’m looking into other options especially as once it’s done I’ll be stuck with whatever lense for the rest of my life.

My first cataract replacement lens rook place 16.9.24 second occurred two weeks later 30.9.24. I was advised that I would require reading glasses because I would only have monocular vision. What I wasn't warned about was the fact that the procedure itself caused scarring- possibly the reason why I now have 'dysphotopsia' with any bright light source- a criss crossing of light appearing in my vision which is disabling in that I must wear sunglasses much of the time. I am told that laser treatment - which I am to undergo in about 8 weeks should help.My cataracts were only in early stages and causing me no problems but I mistook the advice from my optometrist to get the new lenses sooner rather than later. Now I wish I had just had some new prescription glasses made - one pair for both distance and reading , instead of this daily nonsense of having to flip and change numbers of over the counter glasses to find a pair which suits the purpose. I wouldn't advise this surgery - in Australia - until it is really essential. My eyes were good before this intervention - willingly paid for!

I have been told that LAL iols are essential monofocal (set for either distance, near or intermediate). So it is unclear how one gets good vision at all distances using them. Or are you assuming monovision (distance in one eye and near or intermediate in the other) is how?
@elaheef28 күн бұрын
Dr Lee, I love watching your and other's videos about cataract surgery. One thing I find interesting is that no one provides an approximate out of pocket cost to patients for the premium lenses they promote. What is the rationale behind that? Are doctors bound by some agreements by lens suppliers not to divulge pricing publicly? Thank you.

I had the lal lenses in both eyes 3 weeks ago i had two choices these or standard lens replacement because of RK surgery . I am still deciding if i made the right choice i went for my 1st adjustment and they were unable to do it because my eyes wouldn't refract because my eye pressure was high and they are even thinking i may have Glaucoma. I hope when i go back in approximately 10 days i get better news but as of now I regret spending 11k dollars extra and not be any better off than standard lenses

@sreeanilkumar3333 I have had my adjustment to my LAL lenses since I commented on them my vision has improved considerably it's not perfect but never will be . I now feel my results are better with the lal lens but they were expensive. But I can read most print without reading glasses
@mostguitarswinsАй бұрын
This technology sounds great, and would have been my first choice if they were covered by insurance. Instead, I opted for fixed focus IOLs set for distance, which were covered by Medicare. I wasn't wanting to be “glasses free”, and I continue to wear progressives for reading and to correct astigmatism. The real benefit of removing the cataracts is greatly improved night vision, which makes for safer driving. 👍

Standard IOLs can be a great option too. Glad to hear you had a great experience overall!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have one question about insurance/ medicare. Is the entire surgery not covered by insurance or only the LAL part not covered by insurance?
@mostguitarswinsАй бұрын
@neontetra6092 If I had wanted multi-focal IOLs I would have needed to pay extra, however the operation would still have been covered. Check with your insurance to confirm.

I am a Type 1 Diabetic, 22, Cataracts in both eyes. I will have my cataract surgery at the end of January. I still need to choose my lens. My ophthalmologist said my eyes are healthy. im able to have multifocals, but im also concerned about having the best vision quality, which seems to be monofocal after reading many online comments. I'm torn between them, as I'd think multifocals would suit my needs, but im also concerned for my future eye health!!!

What about correcting for high levels of astigmatism? My understanding is that the LAL lens does not correct high levels of astigmatism.

@jimfoye105515 күн бұрын
@@EatLeadPal Distance only, I use 1.5 readers for reading and computer work. Monovision may work for you - discuss with your doc. Works for some folks but others not so much. Usually someone with your goals gets one of the mult-focals.

The cost of light adjustable lens (LAL) surgery can vary depending on several factors, including the clinic, surgeon, and additional services. The average cost is typically between $4,000 and $7,000 per eye, but it can range higher

You should ask your doctor if this is a good lens for you. This lens can correct astigmatism up to a certain amount and can be a good option for pseudoexfoliation if it isn’t severe.
