I love maxi dresses, but was always frustrated wearing them, because they made me look like I'm walking on my knees! But thanks to you I realised my mistake: they were too long and hid my ankles. 🤔Another thing that is elongating & slimming (beside that continuous column of vertical color) is a maxi skirt w/some kind of a split. It can be a rear, front, or side split. It doesn't have to be a ridiculously high one to work, but feel free to show off your legs if that appeals to you. The split attracts the focus👁👁, & it automatically makes the viewer imagine how the leg continues up ⬆️ UNDER the skirt. That trick is surprisingly leg lengthening. Lastly, it's a BONUS if you're wearing nude shoes (even flats). A skin colored shoe stops you from being visually chopped off the feet. It cleverly removes any horizontal line created by your shoes. Your feet practically magically disappear. That simple trick visually extends ↕️ the length of your leg from hemline to infinity 〰️just going below⬇️ in the opposite direction. 😉Look at the model here in the pretty pink dress in Marie-Anne's thumbnail to see this principle in action. The nude shoes beautifully elongate her legs. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

I fail to understand why so many people recommend wide leg pants for fat people. (I'm fat - let's just call it like it is.) If you carry a lot of weight in your thighs - your thighs rub together. And if you are wearing pants with positive ease, your thighs will bunch up the fabric as you walk. It is a horrible look, and it feels horrible.

This was the best plus size video you have done. It was so good. I don’t understand why designers insist on putting high necklines on plus size clothing either, especially in summer! I can only guess that they are all skinny and don’t get it. I also get annoyed that they make so few midi lengh dresses for plus sizes because I am only 5ft 2 and a midi dress on me is a maxi dress. By the time I cut about 6 inches off a maxi dress I have ruined it in most cases. I do wear short dresses because they end up sitting just below my knees and that looks great.

I'm so glad I have found cotton and linen or a blend of the two for most of the "new sized" clothes I picked out. I can't think of anything polyester that I included. I got on this bandwagon years ago when it started getting so hot here. I found some wonderful cotton/linen "button up" shirts that will be nice by themselves, but I also got some cotton tanks/camisoles in a couple of different colors and will be able to wear the shirts loosely to top them off.

I’m 5’1’ and have a few suggestions. First and foremost you have to find a good seamstress or tailor because all of your garments will need to be altered. Your sleeves must be shortened as well as your hemlines. Do not buy maxi dresses or skirts. Pay attention to necklines. Do not wear turtlenecks. Buy V necks or square neck blouses and tops. Buy cropped jackets. They stop at your waist so you avoid looking like you’re wearing a man’s suit jacket.

I hate wearing blazers as they usually don’t fit me well. I have larger biceps, so arms are often tight; and at every size I’ve been in my 50 years (from regular to plus size), it never fits in the bust area, usually too large…Needless to say, it would require a lot of tailoring; and they’re mostly uncomfortable. I own a few as I sometimes have to wear them for work…but I just hate them. I like the look, but not how it feels.

Designers like to frustrate plus-size women: they figure because we are larger, we don't deserve clothes that look good on us and that we will SETTLE for ANYTHING that fits. WRONG!! You have to try EVERYTHING on and make sure it works for you. Some of these tips work for me, but some of them don't (like the maxi dress) because I am only 5'2. When you are short and plus size, you have to put more thought and work into what looks good on you. Keep on triumphing plus size ladies!

I used to be a lot slimmer, but had to start taking an epilepsy med. and it made me gain over 100 lbs. and I hadn't changed my eating habits. If the weight gain wasn't from overeating, it's very hard to accept, plus people seem to assume you're eating too much. It breaks my heart. So it's almost impossible to like myself. Lately I have been having difficulty finding the right size button down blouse, one that won't open where it shouldn't. The reason why designers want polyester is because it's cheap. I wonder if people know it's just plastic that they're wearing. I hate polyester for several reasons. It's plastic, smells, not durable and is mostly way too hot for me. I love cotton and linnen. For the colder months i use wool with cotton blends... Thank you for this video!! Did you notice how difficult it is to find cotton or cotton blends in stores nowadays? It’s so frustrating! Today’s marketers want to sell you inferior rayon or rayon-based inexpensive fabrics which are ecologically damaging because they are semi-synthetic fabrics made from treating cellulose with hazardous chemicals. Disturbingly, all of this is done in the name of ecological soundness to manipulate the consumer. Cotton has superior longevity and drape and breathability.

The more you wash, iron and wear your linen pieces, the more the fabric softens and creases less. Also, it feels so delicious to wear. And when you see a lot of people wearing expensive looking linen, it’s never crisply ironed; the relaxed look of the weave is what makes it look expensive.

Marie-Anne, can you talk about seersucker? I don't know the French word for it. It is the all-cotton fabric that is striped and slightly puckered. Classic for summer. Often in classic navy or medium blue.

Merci, Marie! This video was helpful. I’ve been a size 6/8 my entire adult life, but because of health issues this year, I am now a size 14/16. It’s definitely been an adjustment getting comfortable in my new body, especially because dressing in a chic and stylish manner has been important to me since childhood! Your video has encouraged me with additional ideas and ways I can still portray and elevated style, regardless of my size. Thanks again!

I'm not plus but these outfits are soooo good looking. Many plus celebrities could use your advice. I'm post menopause, average size (with post menopause tummy thickening) but wonder if the Lanebryant elastic back shirt comes in regular sizes, preferable petite because I'm short. All these outfits would do well on my body.

Thanks Marie Anne! I detest polyester, nylon, etc. Why wear plastics c the n your body? Natural fibers, especially wool, cotton and silk are the only way to go?

And that's the difference, isn't it? French casual is chic, while elsewhere e.g. in the UK, casual is anything but chic. I'm convinced that style must be a part of the French national character!

I like most of the tips except the wider legged pants. I am 167cm but legs are short and those are just not flattering on me. So what pants does one wear with a longer blouse? I wear skinny jeans and leggings simply because the wider pants looks I have tree stumps for legs. ☹️
@MarieAnneLecoeur9 ай бұрын
There are a lot of style issues in here Viola - the length of your legs, perhaps also you may be long waisted - certainly you will have a long torso watch here kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXKtnIyCmNGXrrc and here kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIbGZapmlNubkJY a generic video like the one you have just watched can't answer all the style questions that every viewer has but it pays to look around my channel as i have covered just about every style topic 😃
@violas.869 ай бұрын
@@MarieAnneLecoeur thank you I will have a look! Strangely never considered I may have a longer torso if my legs are short. 🤦🏻♀️ Something new to consider. Thanks again.

Always check the lengths of the minis. If you're not very tall, they're actually knee length often enough.

Thank you for the tips really appreciate and I love it. I agree with many of the tips. I would like to ask a question. The denim jacket was shown closed almost like a top, while I think many people wear it as layering on another top I believe. Is it still unflattering if it is worn as a blazer and another top from underneath is worn?
@MarieAnneLecoeur9 ай бұрын
It depends on the cut Elise - if they are cut straight at the hem yes - but I suppose even if they have the curved hem they can still be worn outside they would just look more casual 😃 One of the few ways I ever saw a denim jacket styled in a way I liked was when it was worn as an under layer! Anything is possible if you have an eye for style and are willing to experiment 😃

I agree with everything except for personally I don’t like the collared shirts on myself. I feel like it makes me look masculine and boxy. Thank you for sharing this video. It was refreshing to see what I’ve learned through my own trial and error. If this video was out 5 years earlier. It would’ve saved me a lot of money from buying the wrong clothes 😅
