Depends on the teamfight, positioning, champ pools from both teams, area of fighting, objectives currently up, cooldowns used, bounties, who you root, if you rooted a second person, who the second person is, where your team is, where their team is, and how comfortable you are with this addition, but I guess, if you want to be vague about it, I guess this is technically better for picks than team fights. This game isn't black and white and the second you understand that is the second you'll get out of shit tier.

The snare on Lux Q lasts for 2 seconds. Merc Treads reduces the duration by 30% (less than 2/3 of a second), leaving the root duration at more than 1.33[...] seconds. The casting time for E is 0.25 seconds, and the casting time for R is 1 second, totaling 1.25 seconds of cast time. Given the Q also has travel time, and you should be sending out your E immediately after the auto that is immediately after the Q, the E will be on top of them before the R is finished casting and the R will go off before the snare duration runs out, even with Merc Treads. The only issue here is with how stringent that timing is, you may miss out on that final auto at the end of the combo, which means you are potentially missing out on a passive proc. If they also brought the Legend Tenacity rune, or the Unflinching rune, however, then the tenacity stacked with those on top of Merc Treads means that, yeah, you're gonna have a really hard time pulling off this combo. If you see someone with Merc Treads and they have Precision/Resolve as their Primary and/or Secondary rune trees, then maybe select a different target to try and combo. Otherwise, if it's just Merc Treads, you're probably fine.

Tenacity and movement speed (which is incredibly common these days) would get you caught if you do this. This combo is very situational, specially in team fights where a lux wouldn't want to be standing still in auto range just to throw a couple of autos. Probably best used on mid lane brawling, or when you caught someone with no tenacity

one alteration to this combo that I use against champs with high movespeed/movespeed buffs and/or no dashes, is to send the E out first, without popping it, to apply the slow and make it easier to land the Q. Then, auto, R, pop E before R finishes casting, auto. Same combo in terms of damage order, just leading with the E before dealing any damage to make landing the Q (and thus guaranteeing the full combo) a little easier.

Walking into auto range is a horrendous idea in 90% of scenarios. ADCS can auto back and lifesteal more than you deal. Any melee champion with Tenacity can dodge your ult if you attempt to sneak in an auto and then jump on you. The only thing keeping Lux from not getting obliterated by even the enemy mage is her crazy range.

I mostly use Q into E (e stays there the entire time) into R (R procs the Q passive) Autoattack (to proc the ult passive) into e, Autoattack (to proc e passive) same amount of passive procs takes the same time but your target is slowed longer due to the e being beneath them, so they can't run out of your ult with tenacity.

E -> R is bugged btw, for the E stack to be procked by R cast you need to detonate the E before starting the R cast. (you can see the 1st "wrong combo" R deals 517 while the second combo R deals only 446 - the stack did not apply for the R cast there) -> Q - E - R - aa - E - aa is the most efficient then + there is no risk in missing ult on enemy with mercs

There's an alternative to this full combo and the bad combo. q r for q Mark, e for slow, auto for e Mark, pop e and auto if desired. It can be slower, but you can vary how many or those autos you land to make it just as fast and safe as the bad combo, or as much damage as the full combo.

Small tip for midgame, use E to scout bushes in the enemy jungle and leave wards over walls. After pushing lane, you can catch out people easily by yourself. You don't even need to kill them, just a full combo would most likely force them to back which gives you a lot of control over the map and objectives

The problem to this combo is that it's useless against Assassins or anyone with a gap closer. Lux's AA animation (and its projectile speed) is not fast enough to execute this combo safely, often resulting in enemy Assassins jumping straight into your face and melting you. Which is why I was initially excited for Lux's Passive change of making the AA projectile travel instantly!! Its so disappointing that the change didn't go through!!!!

I think this is more of a use for in a teamfight when u (hopefully) have a frontliner to shield u from danger or B: U get caught unawares and only have the option to kill the enemy champ in said combo or die, like if u meet an assasin. This is a Catch 22. Chances are if you are in auto range you are not efficiently using the max range of Lux’s abilities. And if you and not at or near max range you are putting yourself at an unnecessary risk. Unless you are fed out of your mind (vs the average player)… And at that point it doesn’t even matter. Because the “bad player” combo gets the job done anyway. (It’s the same reason you don’t see Lichbane builds on Lux every single game).

Another tip! Do Q E R but dont detonate your E until your R finishes. This makes it so that your R detonates your passive from Q, then your R reapplies it. If you're in auto range you can detonate the passive reapplied by R, then pop E and auto to detonate passive again. You can combine this with the tip from the video and with flash if its worth depending on the target you Q'd.

That's actually a bad tip because using AA after ult puts your AA timer on cd to the point the snare has already ended allowing mobility skills, spells, or items for counter play. The combo in the video allows the highest damage output at the fastest time possible.

I mean, as someone with 2.7 million mastery on Lux I can say that you should never get close enough to auto someone unless they’re engaging on you, and you catch them with a Q, otherwise it will likely end poorly for you. Every new champion seems to have a projectile block, invuln, and dash/jump to invalidate part of Lux’s kit. Getting into melee means giving them the chance to all-in you while you’re on full cd, and no mobility to escape. This is especially true after lane phase, during team fights. If you try this strategy every time you ult, I can guarantee the whole enemy team will take the opportunity to jump and delete your lux.

Yeah like that stationary Sylas? Can full combo her at that range (and his grab/pull works through roots and cages). She would be CC’d in the middle of her ult, he heals a fuck ton, so he wins the fight easily.

I usually do 1st + auto + 3rd (1st cast) + ulti + auto + 3rd (2nd cast) + auto.

I feel like most if not all average or higher lux players know the combo, we just choose not to be in auto range because that equals death when against competent players.

best part about the optimal damage lux combo is that people dont see the auto that's going to finish them on the passive proc given by her ulti and sometimes flash thinking they'll get out of range of the auto before she's thrown it

TENACITY. That full damage combo only works against people that aren’t running tenacity. Try that against someone thats going legend tenacity, merc treds or unflinching. And they’ll flash your ult. Start with E auto for the slow then q auto r.
