I wish waiters could be paid fairly, it's a gross system. Sure some people do well, but most absolutely don't. Lack of a livable minimum wage AND the ability to deny minimum wage to tipped/disabled/'intern' staff is horrendous. People also get falsely declared as 'private contractors' so the boss doesn't have to pay tax or insurance.

I live in the Uk and waiters and waitresses get a fair pay as far as I know. Tipping is optional. How does it work in the US? Do they get paid the national minimum wage? I heard that some don’t pay that and rely on tips.

JM Kupihea every waitress gets payed minimum Wage. You get $2.oo per hour if you make over the minimum wage with tip. If you don’t make over minimum wage the restaurant will pay you. I much gather have tips. I made at least $25 per hour in tips

It's misleading - it's SGD$108++, so the two pluses mean it hasn't included Government Service Tax (7%), nor the restaurant's service charge (10%). So that's an extra 17.7% that isn't calculated in yet, hence why we don't have tips required in Singapore. Also, I just checked St Regis's Yan Ting restaurant website, the price has since increased to $118++. Source: I'm Singaporean.

Actually, the fried sesame ball you were thinking about is totally different than the glutinous rice ball with black sesame paste. The fried sesame ball is fried giving it a hard shell plus white sesame all over the outside. The glutinous rice ball with black sesame paste is kind of like a dessert soup that has sweet & gingery liquid (called Tong Yoon in Cantonese aka Soup Ball), but this version (Looy Sa Tong Yoon in Cantonese) is without soup and is powdered outside. I loved eating that when I was small.
