I really enjoyed this. Thanks for the great video!

I ran Mac System 7, within Amiga OS3, within Mac OSX. I did wonder about running the Apple II emulator within System 7, but I decided I’d better do some ‘real’ work ;-) Welcome to the world of Amiga. You’re in for a whole new ‘rabbit hole’ of fun.

In 1999 I started using ShapeShifter to virtualize MacOS 7 or 8 on my Amiga 1200 + 68030 accelerator in 800x600 (in colour) so I could use Netscape and browse the web with greater compatibility than the Amiga offerings at the time. This got me into other MacOS software experiences, I got attached, and my next computer was an iMac. :P

Great video, and I like the mix of actual technical detail and whimsy... Can't wait to see more of your content! ( and thanks for the shout-out! )

Shapeshifter is a great tool. Actually is a compatibility layer and not exactly a full emulator. Managed to run mine years ago with a 030 and 040, and still use it today. I mount the Mac's HDD images on the Amiga side, so I can transfer whatever I want through DOpus, even TCP/IP is possible.

Wizard! Never had an amiga, PackardBell 80286 was my first love; I've always heard this was a thing, would be cool to have a setup. Well done sir! New Sub: Dryden, Mich.

Respect that you did this on win98 with such an old version of WinUAE, cool video though 😎

You might it's insane how you're running multiple machines inside each other, but that's basically today's landscape with software development.

Yeah for work I use an arm based Mac, and end up running a bunch of x86/x64 Linux software on it through docker containers!

Nice! There was a brief period of a few months where an Amiga 2000 with GVP 68030 card and an emulator was the fastest mac you could buy.

This is fantastic! Yes, I believe it can run in colour. I think I saw it on a real Amiga with colours back in the 90's. :)

My guess: Windows executed a protected-mode instruction that either that version of SoftPC does not emulate, or does not emulate on a 68020. It might be related to the Windows swap file, as the 68020 proper does not have a PMMU (paged memory management unit) built-in, so the emulated 68020 may not emulate it? Possible solution: You might need to try an emulated 68030. (I'm not ready to give up hope on this working; after all, I basically spent 75% of last May rebuilding one lowly Kaypro power supply!)

I have some hardware upgrades planned for this machine that will “allow me” to jump ahead in time a little to use later versions of winuae and shapeshifter. I’m definitely going to try again.
@anss321 Жыл бұрын
@@GutBombTech I think you have to upgrade WinUAE quite far to get MMU, and MMU emulation is also slow. All the fast emulators, from Rosseta to RPCS3, take great pains to avoid it.
