This title was suggested by one of my patrons! If we're going to go obnoxious and clickbait-y, we might as well go ALL the way! Maybe YOU will come up a great cringe title for one of my future videos? patreon.com/somegadgetguy!

Eye opening device giving me one more thing to consider getting. I appreciate your humble attitude to realizing that you don't understand everything but meanwhile you show how you are getting success despite what the speed test was telling you.

LOL. Yeah. That one proper stumped me.

NICE. Absolutely love the design also. The design reminds me of the 80s Sony Walkmans. 🤘❤️

Keep reviewing devices like this where you can it’s some gadget that we crave. I have like four used cases for this that make it worth it because it’s so small.

It's amazing to me what I USED to pack for portable storage compared to today.

Bet you can't fry eggs on this one, though. I have the $99 model with one SSD and one SD card slot, an ethernet port, HDMI, headphone, USB-C etc. It gets very hot. I am def interested in this one. Interesting!

Oh yeah. I dont think Id want to run a dock like this TOO hard without cooling...

I have two different models of this manufacturer. One without fan gets very hot when used longer than it takes to transfer some large data. For example - editing large RAW video files from it makes it very hot. The second one, with has fan, keeps only slightly warm and editing video from it is no problem at all. I'm using it daily and like it very much.

Thanks for the write up on that. Sounds a LITTLE like the Steam Deck dock I have that runs REALLY hot too. No active cooling.

The last Acasis USB-C hub with an SSD enclosure I bought didn't have the right chipset/power something inside it. The '10-in-1' (Model CM073) would disconnect when the NVMe drive pulled 'too much' power. I still use it as a low feature USB-C hub, but I was not happy with Acasis. Have you tested this new enclosure with a large file transfer (>100GB) from a laptop, yet? I kept trying multiple solutions, even downgrading the cable to USB 2.0 speeds, and the hub still disconnected the SSD.

Ah. NAS Compares claims he needed to connect another power connector when he wanted to use both SSDs. You might have seen something like that with your striped set up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6rMequtnp2qicksi=tkOdF9WyxBUNCvDB&t=301

Actually I had the same results on the single nvme dual HDMI version of this box. I tried everything I could, different NVME, different Macs, and it was all the same as your speeds. ~1000 MB/s write and ~1500 MB/s read. I tried to contact Acasis for assistance and they never responded to any of my 5 emails so I gave up. It's fast enough I guess? But I could not reproduce the speeds the show in their ads even using the exact same setup and nvme. You mentioned using it to connect ethernet adapters. I tried with a wavlink 2.5G. The Macs recognize it but none of them would actually connect to the network with it. Wavlink works fine plugged into any of the Mac ports but not daisy chained off the Acasis. Basically the only thing that worked as intended was the two HDMI.

That kind of stuff is super frustrating going through different hubs and docks.

The issue is that one of those ssd's can almost saturate a thunderbolt 4 connection, if you add in 4k60 video over this box and your drives performance will be throttled by the thunderbolt bus. Hopefully this issue till be much smaller when thunderbolt 5 as seen on the new m4 pro/max cpus comes out and external encloseres that supports tb5 arrive this will be a much smaller problem. TB5 supports 160Gbps 4 times USB4/TB4. so the video signal will leave enough capacity left on the bus for 2 NVME 4 drives. When you stripe the drives large io's will be split up and sent at the same time to each drive really killling the bus. If you only use the disks (no screen or other usb devices connected) the problem should be smaller

Maybe when you are doing long writes on striping, the caches may fill up at the same speed but may get flushed half as often.

Card reader on my surface is almost as fast as my standalone card reader. I think I'm good.
@tutacat3 күн бұрын
card readers are less popular. If you need it, you can just plug one in, then you can choose however many you like. If it's all USB you can basically choose your own dock.

The M.2 sticker _is_ a heatsink, if that drive does need it.

I think Wi-Fi router manufacturers should add NVMe slots for such.
@SomeGadgetGuy3 күн бұрын
That would be interesting. Kinda like taking a portable router and ALSO turning it into a portable NAS. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXXGZXlvarqLmKc

The Device has ONE BIG DESIGN FLAW, it has only the full speed if you use it in Raid 0, sounds great BUT, the two NVME drives have in RAID 0 the speed the single drive would have in a single drive box so both slot are halfed in Bandwtith compared to a normal NVME box. This device would be outstanding if both nvme bays were equipped with the full bandwidth so that Raid 0 would have nearly double of the normal speed, perspectively for use in TB5. My old TB3 single drive enclosure has nearly the same speed. If you use Raid 1 (mirroring) for safety reasonsyou would have only half the speed of an normal single drive enclosure. But to be honest for most even half of thespeed would be more than enough. But Raid 0 ist not giving you additional speed, it allows only to go e.g. for 16TB on a device, or if you want to use only 8 TB in total to go for cheaper drives (TB/$) as the selection in 8TB NVME drives is minimal and pricy.

AH! That helps. Thanks for the explanation.

Why are you not getting 2800 Mbps?
@Jasmine-Law15 сағат бұрын
Well, I think you'd need two identical high-performance SSDs, like Samsung 990 Pro, running in RAID 0 configuration to achieve that speed.
