My math and reasoning if it helps anyone: Every 300 levels = 3000 Printer Filiments = 1 Proficient Item (yes, just one) I (one) Expertise level = 20 proficiented items at lower levels, ~14 at higher levels. Example: new char at 2000 SHD yields 1200 scavenging pts = 4 proficiented items, or about 20% of just 1 expertise level. So, you're Expertise 10 and you invest the 4'ish hours to run through WLNY, now you're Expertise 10.2. Worth it? You decide. 2300 = 5 items proficient (out of 20, or 25% of one level) 2600 = 6, 30% of 1 Expertise level 2900 = 7, 35% 3200 = 8, 40% ... and so on. New character runs starting @ 2000 are hard for me to justify. I've find it to be faster progress at 2000 SHD level to run Countdown while targeting loot i need to proficient, while also wearing gear/guns to proficient in same said countdown, and donating everything that you can to expertise when your backpack is full. In my humble opinion, starting new char runs at 3000 is probably more worthwhile than trying to start at 2000.

The math changes quite a bit after expertise level 20. It drops from 140 proficiency levels to 90. A SHD 2600 watch gives you 60/90. Unless you use the scav points for credits. Then buy mods and dismantle them. That gets you 79/90. Problem is, it takes over an hour to buy all the mods. I know. I did it at almost that exact SHD level a week ago. Now, I'm expertise 24 and sitting at 40/90. One more WONY run would be almost exactly what I need for exp 25. I'm SHD 2649 now.

Also, if you have four toons, 300 SHD levels is 12,000 printer filaments. Just sayin. So, it's one item proficient every 75 levels. If you scrap everything like I do, you can get one proficiency level (1/10 of one item) every 30 minutes or so. It's a grind for sure but not quite as bad as you have portrayed it to be.

​@@AZ-dj1ni countdown runs - yes, WoNY runs - no. Don't focus on expertise levels until you are SHD 2000. Expertise is useful not mandatory, so in low level focus on resources rather than proficiency levels.

I would say your best bet is farming targetted loot, starting with gear pieces in Countdown. Weapons are gonna be the longest to do because you have a variety of 'unique' weapons. So I would start with the gear. Run it on challenging. Loot everything as junk. Go through after the Countdown to see if there's anything you can keep or extract stats from if your library is not max. Then, just donate it all to exoertise and deconstruct whatever is left. It's faster than donating resources.

When making a new character for WONY. when you beat keener and receive your watch make sure you use all of your SHD points printer filaments or ceramic or titanium BEFORE purchasing the shared account blueprint. This way you are able to go over 9999.

One thing to keep in mind is that your objective is creating superb builds. You need not just good expertise levels, but also all the components required to maximize / optimize weapons & gear pieces. You're running countdown first for the gear or weapons you want, but also for the resources. Eventually, you will find your filaments are maxed out at 9999. That is your opportunity to increase expertise, but don't use it all, since filaments also are a component for crafting Black Tusk items that permit rerolling or optimizing. It's a balancing act. You gain shd levels faster in global events than in countdown, but countdown with ARs raises receiver parts at about 4x the rate of open world. Some DZ targets raise specific crafting items faster than control points.

I'm currently using Iron Lung, exotic lmg as my primary and the black market RPK as my secondary, for the gear set(s), I'm using either the Memento or Ninjabike Messenger bag exotics, Petrov Contractor gloves and the rest are either Umbra Initiative, Ongoing Directive, True Patriot, Striker or other High-End gears with red core on them. Trying to kill enemies faster and damage the armor fast as well. Also have all four exotic LMGs: Iron Lung, Pestilence, Bullet King and Bluescreen. Anyway, that is the weapons and gear set I'm using. I am open to more suggestions. Just looking for a loadout/build for PVE open world, just to have fun. Thank you.

Hi, sorry this is probably a silly question. How do I use junk to improve expertise? Whenever I try this through the tinkering station it says that there is "No junk in this category". I have marked items as junk and for donations but get the same thing.😢

That's a really good question! You need to mark an item as junk first then when you go into the tinkering station, you should be able to donate all junk to level up your expertise. I hope that answers your question! 🙂

Even though i have items marked as junk. I tried marking them for donation in case that was the issue and that didn’t work either. I was trying to improve picaros holster and the ACS shotgun.i had holsters and other shotguns marked as junk so I dont understand why it says there is noting in the category.

That always baffled me too. I kept pushing that option and it seemed like nothing ever happened. I did notice that the lower your expertise level the more junk you had to donate. Between level 6...where I was stuck forever....until about 200 out of 394 (or what ever the total is) the expertise meter moved very quickly.. Now that I am at 301 the meter moves very slowly. Also, I didn't realize until recently that you can level up weapon a and gear, via donationg, that you don't even have in your inventory.

You need to level up the proficiency on both your weapon and gear. The more pieces of gear you have equipped, the more xp you will get towards the proficiency as you clear content. 🙂

Also, when grinding Heroic checkpoints, gear/weapons that aren’t maxed out (Level 10) can be “donated” when you are out of combat and in your Expertise section, all you have to do is, on PlayStation 5 you hold down the “square” button and you’ll donate said gear/weapons to your inventory, increasing your expertise. For example, your obtain 2 Banshee SmGs but your Banshee SMG is only at Level 5, what you would do is donate those 2 Banshees towards the Banshee SMG and you’ll start increasing its Level until you hit level 10. Once you reach level 10 on a piece of gear/weapon, it is now “Proficient” meaning you can increase the “armor/damage” output by 1% with additional resources. Also to note, where many content creators forget to mention, you can level up your Specialization meaning you go into your Expertise section again and add resources to your Expertise, IE your running the Gunner Specialization… every time you increase your specialization, you gain 1% weapon damage. Hope this helps!!!

@@ChiefJ13 No. You can run countdown and set the targeted loot to a weapon type, brand set or gear set. Unless you are trying to get specific pieces, just pick everything dropped up as junk. Afterwards, go to the expertise screen and hold the "Donate all junk" button. This will increase the level number required for the next expertise level. Rinse and repeat.

You want the fastest way? Create a new character and run Warlords until your eyeballs bleed. Collect all the points then invest said points. Rinse and repeat. It must be said you have to have a decent watch score to make this viable. Countdown will take you forever and is a waste of time compared to WONY.

Don't worry, it's a bug. The devs are currently working on this issue. There is also an issue where if you die in the DarkZone, you won't be able to respawn.

Thats the reason why so many Groups are break down at the Hunter at the End. When the half Group is playing 6 peaces Ortiz, like you recommended, the Damage is way to low for the Group to get the good Loot from the End. Thank you for giving instructions on uncomradely behavior🤦

Man, telling people to stop and change their builds around in Countdown rather than just getting on with helping the team and sorting things out at the end is SUCH bad advice.
