The little handheld one are wonderful. I cannot imagine ever bothering to froth milk, but they are wonderful for emulsifying a salad dressing. I can do it in a small measuring cup and not bother with a big whisk and a large bowl. It is fast and actually does a better job. I find that the high speed means I can usually wash it by putting the spinning element in the tap water for a few seconds. No need for soap.

you can do the red wine in a blender trick with one of the handheld frothers at table side if you quickly want to aerate a glass at table side without being as disruptive as running a blender. Makes real cheep wines taste a few bucks better

I got a handheld frother with a coffee canister, and I use it to mix hot cocoa. It's not only easy to use, but I also have less cocoa to re-stir as I drink.

It's not shown here, but I have the Maestri House milk frother ($89.99). Similar style as the Breville but the frothing mechanism is magnetic and completely removable, leaving the frothing pitcher totally empty and easy to clean with no tough nooks and crannies to get into. The Breville is also magnetic but has a knob at the bottom that the frothing mechanism has to be physically put on (kind of like a kneading paddle in a bread maker) which could be a pain to clean. I'm usually a big Breville fan - I love my Breville burr grinder - but I think the Maestri House is very comparable, lower cost, and easier to clean, in my opinion.

I have the Instant Pot milk frother and I got it a couple years ago and it works good since you can measure how much milk you want, it warms up and froths the milk well and since it does the job I'm keeping it.

The exclusion or omission of Subliminal frothers both wand and countertop... Is pretty damning. Coffee enthusiasts I can't recommend these products enough. ATK you've been my guiding star for so long, how on earth did you overlook a company like subliminal?
@charlieharris32404 сағат бұрын
ATK's original review of milk frothers was published in the March/April 2021 issue of Cook's Illustrated and last updated in February 2022. This video was recorded in September 2022 for a 24th season episode of ATK TV which began airing on PBS this past January. It looks like Subminimal products were in their Kickstarter phase around this time and would've likely been excluded as prototypes. ATK continuously updates their equipment reviews so if you would like them to test out the Subminimal products, you should let them know (KZbin comments aren't that effective).

Some context - this is not a new video. It was recorded for an episode of ATK TV's Season 24 in September 2022 which was around the time Subminimal launched the Nanofoamer on Kickstarter. It appears Dreo was launched on Kickstarter after that. ATK considers products on Kickstarter to be prototypes and won't include them in testing .

Some context: The video's not new, it's just "new" to KZbin. It was recorded in September 2022 for an episode of ATK TV Season 24 and began airing on PBS the past January. It appears Dreo launched on Kickstarter relatively recently. Even if it was launched on Kickstarter while they were testing, ATK considers KS products as prototypes and does not include them.

Coffee geeks respect that a French press can texture milk for coffee drinks. I think I would sooner wait until I see a cheap espresso machine at the thrift store then only use it for steaming milk. Apparently you can make the best scrambled eggs of all time with an espresso steam wand too.
@bobthecomputerguyКүн бұрын
I have an espresso maker that I've used to scramble eggs. If you want a close facsimile to those eggs, scramble some eggs in a coffee mug, and cook it in the microwave. It goes quick, about 30 to 40 seconds in my microwave. Stir after about 20 seconds. Somehow microwave cooking fluffs the eggs similar to the steam wand. If you cook it too hard though, they get a chewy texture.

I don't know if there is a stand alone steam wand but I've tried many other types of frothers like the ones in this and other reviews and find them lacking.

A cappuccino is NOT foam on top. A cappuccino is made by doubling the volume of milk (giving 50/50 milk and foam), then pouring it I to the coffee before the milk and foam separate. That way, the foam has coffee mixed in. The alternative is half a latte with a dollop of milk bubbles.
