I can't remember where I heard this, but someone once said, "soap is soap". now when I have a cleaning product of any kind that I just don't like, I use it up by cleaning my toilet. that way it's not wasted.

So true. Big Business would love to see us fill up our cabinets with lots of prdts. However, remember our Grandmas & Great Grandmas kept "very" clean homes using soap, vinegar, rubbing alcohol, even lemon juice and many other natural ingredients. I just hit 70 and remember the pride that came from a neat & clean home. Folks didn't have excess stuff & seemed to enjoy life & socialize more.🙂 My one suggestion is to make the Toy declutter day the "Toys or Storage Declutter Day". Those of us who's kids are grown still need to be careful about mindlessly tossing items into a closet, basement or garage. It quickly gets out of control. 😄 I love your plan & am going to challenge my Hubby as he's the one who has trouble letting go of his stuff. Thanks for your plan you're a blessing. Kj 🥰 🙏

Love your channel, very inspiring. Love the fact that you share your struggles too. I also follow the Minimalist Mom and she always talks about when you have less stuff, you have more time. I sat my 2 boys down not long ago and explained to them that if we could decrease the amount of toys we have that it would increase the amount of time we have to play with the toys they still have. They were able to fill multiple boxes to donate and sell. We also created a maybe box as you both have suggested. We are now ready to donate the maybe box. It has changed my perspective as well as theirs. I completely agree with you that you have to involve your children. Not only are they helping but it is instilling in them life skills and they are able to take ownership as well. Again, thank you for sharing your journey!

Currently have no kitchen (remodeling), but there's one in the living room that has keys an extra bulb for the warmer, extra nail clippers, etc. The only good thing.... it's contained, organized, and minimal.

What a great video especially for a newbie, I have been on this journey for 4 years, so not much left for me to declutter, but as I watched this video I thought of two things a top I don’t wear, but it’s so beautiful I have a hard time donating it, but today it goes into my declutter box, and a small palette of eye shadow it has sparkle which I didn’t realize, and it doesn’t work for me…. For me, I will try to declutter one thing a day. What has helped me tremendously is one item in one item out. It’s the key to staying minimal… I hope you aren’t decluttering the salmon color tee , I have the same one, and I love it 😉❤️

I decluttered my junk drawer about a month ago. My niece gave me a small shelf with two shelves in it. Instead of putting it on the wall, I put it in the junk drawer and I've kept it neat. I did the kitchen cabinets a couple of days ago and have about 12 extra plastic storage lids to toss. I decluttered my purse down to no purse several years ago. I had to buy a man's wallet because they don't make women's the way I needed it. But my wallet goes in my back pocket, my keys on a small carabiner on my belt loop and my phone in a front pocket. And I finally got rid of clothes that no longer fit about three months ago and went on a diet soon after. I guess you could say I "decluttered" my body down by 17 pounds so far! And the only food I have is for my diet recipes so, not much to get rid of there. At my age and being retired, I don't usually bother with make-up so I need to declutter and just buy some new basics. Oh...and there's a bag to go to Goodwill of "stuff" and three bags of books for the library. How am I doing? I know I feel better.

Still decluttering. Making progress. Some things on your list don't apply to me, like makeup, but I can tweak it to something else. I posted this poem on your recent purge video, but since it fits with #14, I'll share it again: PRINCESS MOMMY I need to keep my Princess Mommy Just a little longer And this little lambie too I'm not done loving on her You can take away that dolly You can take away that game But playtime without Princess Mommy Wouldn't be the same Who would give the children hugs? Who would feed the lamb? Who would teach me how to be The princess that I am? I need to keep my princess Mommy, she is just like you And someday, when I'm all grown up I'll be like you too (Inspired by Lila)

I don't have a junk drawer and i don't wear makeup. No toys in my house. I don't have a handbag, and my wallet is already tidy. You Tube is the only app i use too much and i am NOT getting rid of it! My bedroom is already decluttered, nothing is under the bed. I LOVE the idea of the life reserve tho, and i really need to go thru my cleaning supplies! Also i have about 14000 emails so it will probably take me a week to deal with those.
@AMcDub07083 жыл бұрын
I had about that many emails too. I read an article (May have been the Get Things Done guy but now I can’t remember) that suggested only going back 30 days in your emails and create folders for those emails. The folders were something like: Immediate Action, Read and Review (leisure reading stuff), Record Keeping (long term reference emails), Payment Receipts (e-receipts, etc), Tickler (events with ticket info or meetings with agendas in the future that also go on your calendar), and Waiting (anything you are waiting for a response to or a project to move forward). Then you make another folder that’s called Filing Cabinet. You move EVERYTHING ELSE from older than 30 days into that folder. If ever you need to look something up you think was older, you open the Filing cabinet folder and do a search there. Really it’s just the remainder of your inbox without cluttering your in box. You haven’t deleted all those emails, they are still there, just not in the way of new emails in your in box if that makes sense 😊
@goodenoughgirl81023 жыл бұрын
I have found on this journey how I had loads of junk really. But I was lacking on what I could really use. I wound up buying some things which seemed to be “adding.” Part of me is like Cinderella and another part of me is like splurge. For example...maybe 10 year old spices other than salt, pepper and garlic powder. Old hand me down spice bottles etc. Papers to file in a 10 year old plastic box with hand me down mismatched files. Recipe books that came from the thrift store “as is.” So those are a few purchases I’m making, but I’m expecting those to last for the next decade or so. Lol. So among all this junk, I had still been “lacking” in so many ways. Is this normal once you go thru all your stuff? Bcuz I’ve gotten rid of about 4 truck loads of stuff I don’t need and working on my fifth. I’d say 60 percent of my stuff is out but I’m only getting a few new things that I feel are more “me” and also need a major redo. It feels diff this time tho Bcuz I know exactly what I want and what the purpose of these things are. I know the quantity I need and it’s one and done. In the past it was just random shopping out of boredom and amusement or buying things on overkill. Like if I needed a few containers, I’d buy way too many. More than I needed. Etc. Now when I shop, I look at many options before I buy and I pick my fave one. I consider many things like aesthetics, size (does it fit?), ease of use, quality (will it last?) and so on. Of course, I had a lot of fun winnowing the recipe books down and poring over what spices I’d actually need. (Prob like 10 or less). So I got the smallest set possible and will either use the jars for other things or donate what I can’t find a use for. There’s just so much irony here tho. Lol. I don’t think for me it’s “stop buying” but rather just learn more accurate, smart, strategic buying. But many times seems like you can’t see what you really need until you clear out so much junk you don’t need. Oh right. Christmas tree stuff is getting a much needed rehab also. Lol.
