Yeah Eck was so solid. Just looked up his stats...career wise 5509 chances 98 Errors .982 field %. But what is super crazy impressive is the last 2 years of his career at ages 34 and 35 1012 chances only 2 errors. His last season at age 35 1.000 fielding % with 475 chances 0 errors. Yeah super solid. I heard him talk in an interview and he admitted that sometimes he has to put 3 fingers on the ball when he would throw because his hands were so small.

@Tyler Smart: Yes . . . that's the kind of question that would interest me. Or maybe something like this: "Was there a player that could have made it if the business was slightly different (?) For example, maybe some guy that could only hit during day games (?) Or maybe some guy that had great skills . . . but was a loner type and couldn't handle the social aspect of team ball (?)"

David Eckstein played with the Cardinals after winning the World Series with the Angels and he helped St. Louis get to a World Series also. He was just a winner. Thanks again for your insight.

When I covered the Atlantic League last season, I was very impressed with Lombardozzi when I would see him with Southern Maryland. He killed IndyBall that season. It was great seeing him get back to the MLB earlier this year with the Marlins. Great video as always Matt!

That's one of the many beautiful things about baseball. It doesn't matter how big, fast, or strong you are. If you can put bat on ball, catch, and throw, you will be alright.

I know you answered my question personally about your opinion on being a multisport athlete but I'd love to see a video on that. I've heard some scouts love players who only play one sport and others who like players who play more than one. Do you take that into consideration when recruiting a player?

You should practice how you want to play. Practice your butt off, and take it serious and compete with yourself. Tell yourself, I'm not letting anything get past me or I'm not letting any ball drop. Eventually you'll feel like a machine, like Matt said Eckstein played and practiced like.

David Eckstein was a good enough short stop to win a world series. I feel like if he was on a team that was playing .500 ball everyone would say you need a better short stop. There were some balls that i think most mlb short stops would make that eckstein couldn’t get over to first in time. That being said derek jeter is a hall of famer and he wasn’t a good defensive short stop at all. He was good enough for 5 world series rings though.
