spinz186 There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men are probably better than 2014's top 2 and are two of my favorite movies ever, so I completely agree. I'm a big fan of Zodiac and Hot Fuzz as well. I guess I didn't include 2007 because while it has two undeniable modern classics, I feel like its a more top-heavy year. Definitely a year I'd expect many to cite though. Arguably a better year overall.

Interstellar on IMAX screen was so awesome. I saw it twice in theatres and the IMAX was worth the extra few bucks to see. Honestly it was just gorgeous and I didn't have to wear a silly pair of glasses to enhance a few scenes, it was ALL gorgeous.

One thing I will always praise Edge of Tomorrow for is being the first manga adaption done right. Sure they changed some things but the central focus that was in the manga was still there and even if the main characters weren't teens I still got a kick out of seeing the main character go from this coward to a pretty big badass, and the humor was really funny as well.

But then again, i havent seen Birdman, Whiplash, The Babadook or Nightcrawler so what the fuck do I know hahaha. I really need to watch those films. You've supported them convincingly and I related a lot to what you said about Interstellar. It got better with each viewing and I still want to see it again. I didn't like Interstellar. I understand why people like it, but i thought the story arc was predictable and the ending too convenient. The first 2 hours were great, and I liked the chemistry between The little girl and Mathew Mcconaughey. I liked Matt Damon and the conflict he brings in the movie. I think Nolan was trying to go for this really intellectual movie but to me it fell flat. The ending seemed like he had a lot of endings in mind, and instead of just choosing one he tried to combine them all into one.
@sonnytots10 жыл бұрын
I agree, I was so invested in the movie for the first half of it, but the second half just lost me completely, it just felt like the movie lost some of its heart.

Sonny it sounded like you didn't like it because you didn't get it lol I didn't like some of it because of the massive amount of scientific flaws
@matildegd996510 жыл бұрын
That was the other thing I didn't like. And I did understand the movie as a whole, I just thought SPOILER that Nolan went out of his way to make the ending happy. To me an ending should flow and in when Nolan does something like this in his other movies it works. But In this one it just felt like he did everything in his power so that all characters ended up happy.
@matildegd996510 жыл бұрын
I did understand the science of it, and I agree that it is more intellectual than a lot of the movies now a days (infinitely more than that god awful Ouija) but it looked like he was going for something more. It is more intellectual than most movie though. My main problem with this movie was the ending though.

1. Interstellar( This film is polarizing but I understand certain sacrifices a filmmaker has to make in terms of pace and runtime) I was sitting in the Imax and I swear this film is a 100 percent roller coaster ride. 2. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. (Excellent cinematography)(Andy Serkis) 3. Nightcrawler (This is one of the dramas of the year and Jake Gyllenhaal atleast deserves a nomination or a Golden Globe) 4. Snowpiercer (A tense moral story and Chris Evans best performance) (Love the gritty tone of the book) 5. X-men Days Of Future Of Past (Shed a tear by the end of this film and very well pace) (waiting for the director's cut) 6. Edge Of Tomorrow ( Year after year Tom Cruise delivers films and I keep enjoying, yes even Oblivion and Jack Reacher, I cant wait for Mission Impossible 5. 7. Gone Girl (Another director that never disappoints on well made dramas) (Rosamund Pike was excellent give this woman a nomination. 8. Captain America The Winter Soldier (No stupid jokes)(A action pack film with a cool moral character) 9. Exodus Gods and Kings( I love Christian Bale and Ridley Scott, sure the film doesn't follow the story hundred percent but I was very engaged by this take of this classic story) 10. The Lego Movie (Who doesn't love Legos haha) The town where I live doesn't have small independent cinemas so I cant watch Whiplash, Birdman and other limited releases. Honorable mentions: The Babadook, The Hobbit The Battle Of Five Armies, Boyhood, Locke, Enemy, Under The Skin, The Grand Budapest Hotel, John Wick.

Chris Stuckmann is probably the kindest towards Interstellar among all critics. He did say there were flaws in the movie (I would disagree. There are some logistical problems, but overall I find the movie pretty coherent), but accepted that he watched the movies in theaters more than once. He watched the movie more than once. In theaters. And I know multiple people who have done that. That is an under-reported fact about the movie. And honestly, that needs to come up more. Over the past one year, I have noticed how Interstellar isn't really all that appreciated by people - as much as they appreciate other Nolan features like TDK or Inception. I still haven't really understood why. Interestingly, I found Interstellar to be much more fascinating than Inception.

I had interstellar as number 1 on my list if you wanna check out my channel (my top ten of 2014 video is really bad but the list itself I still adhere to. I was just starting out trust me I'm way better now) I hate Interstellar's ending. I can't stand it. It was very underwhelming, very silly and ridiculous, and full of exposition and ruined all the good build up with a really sappy resolution. HOWEVER The rest of the movie is a masterpiece of visuals and sound, Hans Zimmer is a God, the mountains scene was pure intensity and breadth, and of course the docking scene song was catchy as hell. The effects are flawless, and the awe of entering the unknown power and vastness of space (cheesy line I know, but really) was perfectly manifested on screen. You know when the music begins to swell when they first enter the wormhole? And when McConnaughey enters the black hole? also that scene where his kids grow up with Day One playing is amazing. Not as clean or well-crafted a movie as inception, but still, well done Mr. Nolan.

I still have many movies to see, (which is crazy since I have currently seen 131 2014 movies), but I too found this a really good year for some really good and unique movies. I find it hard to make a top 60 let alone a top 20. 20. Enemy 19. Chef 18. Nightcrawler 17. The Grand Budapest Hotel 16. Big Hero 6 15. Intersteller (Had a very similar experience. I liked it even more the 2nd watch and felt it more moving than I originally did) 14. Snowpiercer 13. Afflicted (not much talk about this one. It's probably just a personal favorite, I guess.) 12. The LEGO Movie 11. Lone Survivor (I don't care that most consider it a 2013 movie. It came out in theaters worldwide on Jan 10 2014!) 10. Captain America: Winter Soldier 9. Guardians of the Galaxy 8. The Babadook 7. Big Eyes 6. Birdman 5. Godzilla 4. How to Train Your Dragon 2 3. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 2. Fury 1. Havent seen Fury on a lot of lists. I really enjoyed it and i think its underrated. The acting was great, there were characters you felt for, and it had some really tense moments which makes for an entertaining movie. Only reason i probably wouldnt put it in my top 10 is because of the ending. I dont want to ruin it for those who havent seen it but it just felt stupid to me, whereas the rest of the film felt real.
@BruceGiffordJustMyOpinion10 жыл бұрын
HomicidalBabies I too felt like the characters and the situation as a realistic and horrific look on war and though a lot of people found the characters were bad and terrible, I viewed it as the type of people that were molded and changed to be like that through the horrors of war and found it a refreshing war movie. Fury is now one of my favorite war movies among Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, and a few other classics I can't name off the top of my head at the moment. However, I personally liked the ending and felt that even in war, people might discover some kindness among the enemy soldiers. I also found it a little hopeful that maybe some people can come out of such horrifying experiences still a good man. But that's just my take on the ending.

Boyhood is my #1 favorite of the year, it doesn't seem like a perfectly made film but it is basically life and every time someone might cringe, they're cringing at themselves. It doesn't push anything - it just is. We watch Mason grow up and develop into his own person, and the scene where he goes off to college is really powerful for no noticeable reason. After that is Interstellar, Whiplash and The Theory of Everything(personally loved it). I only watch like ten movies each year, and I am usually good at picking movies that are interesting to me while also being good movies.

Mi inglés apesta así que voy a escribir en español. Si bien llegué a tu canal este año por tu review The Last of Us, desde entonces he estado suscrita.

"I am also a spanish fan and i thought i was the only one, i think he's very underrated and without a doubt one of the best movie critics/analysts i've ever found on KZbin."

F**k yeah man! Birdman is also my favourite movie of the year, I could see it thousands of times and just feel it a little boring.

You guys still don't have the brains to appreciate one of the finest movie of all time the "Interstellar".Actually for me it's the best movie of 2014.
@willem12129 жыл бұрын
+Yoochan Shin Whiplash was good, The Grand Budapest Hotel too, but fucking Birdman?! Why does everybody love Birdman? Seriously, there is no emotional core in the movie. It was boring and I think unbelievably overrated. What I think is so beautiful about Interstellar, is that the film tries to tell that there is something to explore out there, that we, the human race, mean something, although our planet is almost nothing, compared to the rest of the universe. Also I thought the story about Cooper missing his daughter gave a beautiful emotional tone to the movie. Combine those two things with a beatiful script (I thought the script was very good, all those cuts between space and earth, beautiful dialogue, etc. Rewatch it, you'll see) and an unbelievable score (there's no denying in that, Hans Zimmer's score is amazing) and you've got a masterpiece. This is all just my opinion though, everybody has his own opinions. Can you tell me what aspects about the movie you didn't like?
@thiruttu1239 жыл бұрын
Actually the first 10 minutes of interstellar was necessary because it shows about what has happened to earth and why which is definitely necessary and it was not boring.They needed some time to introduce the characters.The characters simply can't pop out of nowhere so they needed the first 10 minutes.You mean the character development was not excellent first of all it's not a drama genre film and of course birdman had better character development because that what it is supposed to do because it's a drama film.And the character development was not poor because you can actually feel the bond between father and daughter and their love and interms of a scifi movie this movie had the best character development and this is not a slice of life movie to teach you real life lessons and experiences.Interstellar did what it was supposed to do .
@willem12129 жыл бұрын
Thiru Kumaran exactly. You really cared for Cooper and his daughter.
@willem12129 жыл бұрын
***** I thought the beginning of the movie was fantastic. It made me care about the family and the characters. Also, it showed you what had happened to earth and the people. I completely disagree about the characters being used as tools. The family seemed very realistic and believable to me. I really cared about Cooper and Murph. The ending is what the most people complain about (including you). I assume you mean the tesseract (correct me if I'm wrong). It came very unexpected to me. I never saw it coming. I think it is a very beautiful and heartbreaking thought that Cooper was trying to communicate with his own daughter, trying to make himself stay (it really makes you think, maybe someone is trying to communicate with you right now!). I'm also very pleased that I can have an intelligent conversation about films with somebody on the internet. That doesn't happen very often. A nice day to you too, sir.
@willem12129 жыл бұрын
***** Thank you too for the conversation. Maybe you'll see Interstellar in 10 years or so and you'll understand what a masterpiece it is ;) What do you think are going to be the good movies in the next years? I think/hope 'The Martian' will be good, and 'The Revenant' sure looks amazing. Still waiting for the announcement of Christopher Nolan's next movie :)
