Hey, iChase. Bit of a naval history nerd here. If you have time, I'd heavily suggest checking out the destroyer escort USS Slater. She's in Albany, NY, and she's a nice quick ship to go through. There's a decent bit of the ship available to see, and some rather interesting things as well. The people there are pretty dedicated. The 40mm Bofors, for example, can rotate, and are in decent shape. I myself have visited the Slater, and the other destroyer escort in the US, the Stewart. Also, the USS Texas (My favorite), the Intrepid, Lexington, HMS Belfast, and HMS Caroline. I'm happy you put up this road trip guide, it's given me ideas for how I may spend my free time next break! Thanks, man!

My best friend and I have an annual tradition of going on the road to see museum ships. We did Boston, Fall River and Quincy in 2018. Our first trip was my favorite though. It was 2013 and I was between jobs, so I had plenty of time on my hands. I drove from North Carolina to Orlando, Florida to pick my friend up and then we drove to Mobile to see USS Alabama, then to Houston to see USS Texas and finally, we made the drive out to San Pedro, CA to see the ship that I served aboard while in the USN, the USS Iowa. Have to say that last stop was pretty emotional for me, as this was the first time I'd seen her since I left her in September of 1989.

I live like 15 minutes away from Fall River so I have been to Battleship Cove a few times. The USS Intrepid museum is amazing, there it's hands on activities for kids that teach about aviation and navigation as well as tons of historic aircraft and signs discribing them. The. USS Constitution is fun, but the USS Constitutional museum that is separate is worth your time. The Groton museum is also fun, but small. These are all a great time and very educational

You forgot to go to Albany, N.Y. to see the U.S.S. Slater, the last surviving WWII destroyer escort out of 563 built. The ship is being beautifully restored by a dedicated staff of volunteers and ex-military personnel. They recently opened one of the engine rooms up for touring. Well worth the visit!!
@shrikes454 жыл бұрын
@iChaseGaming What a great video! I took a very similar museum ship tour on my recent visit to the US this last autumn! Started in Boston with the USS Cassin Young - The volunteers were so friendly and the one I was talking to asked me if I was going to hang around for an hour for the guided tour and just said, don't wait any more, let's have a tour in 5 minutes. I had a whale of a time there! Next was the USS Salem in Quincy. Pity you weren't able to go aboard. It looks rusty outside but the interiors are pretty decent. you can tell there is a lot of care put into maintaining her. It's more of a self guided thing, but I got to squeeze into one of the twin 5-inch turrets and the aft 8-inch turret. It was amazing. Went to chicago to see the U-505 and took the tour there. one of the last U-boats left in the world! last stop was California where I saw the USS Midway, where they had retired naval aviators talk about their experiences riding the cat or catching a wire up on deck. The last museum I visited was the USS Iowa. She looked amazing, and you could tell that the volunteers poured their hearts into her restoration. So, I got Milton Bradley Battleship Bingo with a Carrier, Battleshipm Cruiser, Destroyer and Submarine. I would encourage anyone to go see these ships! Be warned though that there will be a lot of climbing and squeezing through tight spaces if you want to explore the innards or the superstructure of these ships!

I’ve been around quite a few of the US museum ships, USS Olympia, New Jersey, Intrepid, Salem, a gearing class and although not a museum ship the SS United States of America. I can hands down say Salem was the most incredible with NJ as a close second. Salem is not really a major tourist destination so the men their will take you anywhere if you ask them. Although my favourite ship of all is the HMS Belfast in my home country the UK. It is just incredible.

I visited Constitution and Battleship Cove 20 years ago. Not only do you see a broad array of ships, but also a broad timeline naval warfare starting from 1812, pre-modern era (with Olympia), WWII, and post-war. Another exhibit worth seeing is the U-505 in Chicago and comparing it to USS Silversides across the lake in Muskegon.

When I was younger, I visited Battleship Cove for about 6-7 years in a row, from when I was about 5 until I was about 12. Every year that I went there were still new things to see, a new room you hadn't seen before, a new exhibit that just opened, etc. To truly see everything in every ship, you'd probably have to go there for at least 3 days or more. I dropped by the Albacore on the way back from Maine one time, it's definitely worth the stop. Eventually, I want to take a road trip to visit every museum ship along the east coast, hopefully in a few years once I get through college.

I did the USS Wisconsin BB-64 stationed at the Nauticus museum in Norfolk Va. I believe she was the last IOWA class battleships built. She was part of Admiral Halsey's 3rd fleet. Impressive ship to say the least. On a side note Norfolk is home to the world's largest Navy base. You can see the carriers driving across the Hampton Roads bridge. I was stationed in Norfolk 45 years ago. Back when there were signs saying sailors and dogs keep off the grass. Remember getting drunk and having street fights at the Thirsty Camel and Purple Onion. Many a sailor spent time there. If you did share a story.

Neat, I got to go see the Nautilus and then 2 days later got to go see the new Virginia class SSN USS Colorado. My cousin was the commander during her commissioning and we got tickets to see everything. It is really something that has to be experienced but seeing the difference from the first nuclear powered submarine and then getting to see the newest.... amazing experience. Nautilis is so cramped with narrow passages and a extremely cramped control room. The Colorado on the other hand had a lot more room to move around in and the control room is actually pretty comfortable if a little short. I got to use the new "photonics mast" and check out the torpedo room, galley, mess and several other rooms on board. We even got to go out through the airlock that navy seals can use to exit the sub underwater or where the crew can evacuate if the sub is stuck on the bottom. I may one day even get to check out a Ohio class as one of my cousins friends is the commander of one of the big boomers. Something that IChaseGaming didn't show is that the Submarine Museum actually has rings showing the size difference from the Navy's first sub the USS Holland and the USS Ohio. It is amazing to see just how large (and at the same time how small they are compared to everything else) submarines have become. 100% recommend.

I live across the river from the Groton museum in New London, and if you're up for checking out some a working boat museum ship, take the cross sound ferry to orient point then take a quick 5 minute drive over to Greenport and check out the Fire Fighter! Served for 72 years in the FDNY (1938-2010) and was involved in every major fire on the waterfront from the SS Normandie fire of 1942 all the way to 9/11 and sully's landing on the Hudson. The ship is fully operational and we move around the eastern end of long island during the summer. or if you want to stay the CT side of the sound, you can always check out the Mystic seaport, which has a large collection of both wooden and steel hulled sailing ships, and even the last coal-fired wooden steam boat on this side of the Mississippi, SS Sabino. The admission, however, is not free and is a little pricey.

If you ever get the chance, in New Orleans PT305 is docked on Lake Ponchartrain just north of the city. She is an actual operational WWII patrol torpedo boat that was lovingly restored from the keel up at the National WWII Museum over a period of about 10 years. She is a Higgins PT boat that operated in the Mediterranean during the war. Rides are expensive because the price helps to defer maintenance and fuel costs, but she is absolutely amazing. You can do a lower cost tour while she is in her covered dock or pay a lot more and take the ride. One of these days I will ride her. She's come full circle because Higgins used to test these boats on the Lake prior to sending them off to war.

Nice tour! Living in New England (MA and NH) I've seen many of them, all worth a few hours of exploration. U.S.S. Cassin Young still has some Kamikaze damage preserved. Also, around holidays like July 4th, we've toured current Navy ships at the Black Falcon Pier area in Boston. One was a modern version of an LST which was interesting. Between Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, Maine (Portsmouth Shipyard) you can see pilings in a row between Fort Foster and Wood Island Life-Saving Station... Those held anti-U Boat nets during WW2. Many of the U Boats surrendered at Portsmouth, including the infamous U-234 which was carrying parts and plans for various German designs and the U-235 for making Atomic Bombs... from defeated Germany to Japan. I might add that the New England seacoast also features a number of fortresses which can be visited for low or no cost. Fort Warren, Fort Independence, Fort Constitution (former British Fort William and Mary), Fort Foster, Fort Williams, Fort McClary... just to name a few.

In Barrie Ontario there is CFB Borden with some fantastic examples of AFVs of several nations plus the oldest flying airplane in Canada (a 100+ year old Avro 504). Make a video about how for $235 you can go do all of this stuff if you live any where around here. Go to restaurants, do reviews.... call it iChaseChasers. Local history and the best bars along the way.

If u r interested in other aspects of military history, there’s an air museum in Hartford, CT, Fort Trumbull State Park and Museum in New London, CT, Fort Griswold in Groton, CT, the Seabee Museum in Quonset Point, RI (call to double check hours), the Naval Warfare College Museum (requires a reservation) and Fort Adams in Newport, RI, the Maritime Museum in Fall River, MA, the Lexington and Concord battlefields, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library near Boston, the Springfield Armory National Historic Site in Springfield, MA (world’s largest collection of American firearms, check website for seasonal hours), Fort Independence (for u Fallout 4 fans 😜) and Fort Warren (requires ferry) in Boston, MA, and the American Heritage Museum in Hudson, MA (prepare to b absolutely amazed, open Friday through Sunday). If u plan on starting in NYC, I would also recommend hitting up Fort Putnam and the West Point Museum in West Point, NY and USS Slater in Albany, NY, as well as the Museum of American Armor in Old Bethage, Long Island. There is also the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park in Buffalo, NY and an air museum in Niagara Falls, NY across the state (along with a few old forts and battlefields in the area as well). Also b sure to search around for other local historical locations such as Mystic Seaport in Mystic, CT, the Salem Witch Trials Museum in Salem, MA (iirc, there’s also an old sailing ship on display there) and Plimouth Plantation in Plymouth, MA.

Is the Tarantul a ship from previous East German service? Its name on its rear doesn't look Russian at all.
@usnshiddensee14 жыл бұрын
yes it is a former gdr vessel given to the us in 1991 for testing then to the cove in 1997 i work on her today she is my baby lol remarkibly intact her original name was ruldolph egelhoffer she got the name hiddensee when germany reunified she is one of 2 left in her class we have on at battleship cove the other is a penemude in germany
@ChibiBritishDwarf4 жыл бұрын
Yup! Hiddensee served the East german navy before germany reunified- after that served a little longer for germany, before sailing to the US and serving a little bit with the US navy. And afterwards finally coming to rest at Battleship cove. Last time I went to see her though she had a bit of railing issues so she was closed at the time for safety reasons.
@usnshiddensee14 жыл бұрын
@@ChibiBritishDwarf yeah we had some rust issues with some of the railings but it is all repaired now the ship is going to reopen this april for the public but private tours can be arranged

Happy New Years man ... any chance you can give me a pointer on how to get mod station to work? I downloaded the actual game from the App Store on my Windows pc. I can’t find the wows file to find it on mod station ... any help would be great! Take care brother
@ichasegaming4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, you should just be able to point the Modstation towards to World of Warships folder and that's it. Not sure how Windows App store does it though, maybe try the normal Wargaming Center app?
@CaptainSpud804 жыл бұрын
Ya I might have to down load off the official website... but I’ll try the drag method you just mentioned. Thank you for the reply I appreciate it. I have been trying to get mod station set up for a while now and I can only think that since I down loaded from the App Store the mod station isn’t finding the wows file cause it’s technically an app on my computer but idk ... I won’t loose all my stuff if I down load another version right?

Hmm...honestly I have no idea. You'd have to give a try. But assuming you normally have a "login page" when you start the game, and ur logging in with a WG account. Should be no issues
