In the US there is a controversy regarding the lamp device you put your hand in to dry the gel polish because it does sun damage to hands. They say you're supposed to wear sunscreen on your hands before getting gel polish as a result. Do you put sun screen on your hands before you go?
@mouseheadstudios
@mouseheadstudios 9 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Holloway I was wondering the same thing about the lamp. And she can't put sunscreen under her nails, but that skin is expose to UV as well. Martina you may want to do some research into that lamp since you spend so much time putting your hand under it every month. Perhaps they are different in Korea. But I have to say, your nails are always awesome and I am totes jealous of them.
@eatyourkimchi
@eatyourkimchi 9 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Holloway I actually do! I squeeze a bit sunscreen on my hands before I go. ^^ I read about that too and was freaked out because I burn easily in the actual sun but supposedly you have to be under the UV lamp A LOT to get damage. I guess it's exactly like going to a tanning salon, but I personally haven't had any problems (to my knowledge).

It's also worth mentioning that, if your getting nail extensions done, the "baking" or "curing" period [following the extension tip application] should NOT HURT / BURN! Pain can be induced if the nail technician carelessly applied an excessive amount of the gel bonding agent. If it does hurt, your nail's enamel will suffer and leave it sensitive. Worst case, it will cause mild discolouration. TL;DR: If there's pain while you're getting nail extensions, that's no bueno.

I have found with certain LED gels that even with the thinnest coats my more sensitive clients will get a very warm tingle. What brand do you use?

When i got my nails done for the first time it hurt so much under the uv light. And i was scared my nail was gonna be ruined
@DechenWongmo

LiasLoft I had two varying experiences with the same brand, bio seaweed gel, at the same nail bar; the first curing process, preformed by a junior technician, caused a scalding sensation, and the second curing, involving a senior technician re-doing the gel application, was a mild tingle. I would prefer the warm tingle any day!

Im a nail tech in the US, and the kind of thing your getting done in korea, idk of any place here that does it like that. Extensions? It would have to be a all over acrylic. And here the gel (or known as shellac) is put over your real nail or ontop of acrylics. Usually only last 2-3 weeks. Korea nail standards and US nail standards are totally different. If you ask someone to do what ur getting done here, they'll just look at you crazy lol i wish we can do that kind of stuff but its not the 'proper' way to do it in the US

Love this video! Not enough people know how good gel nails are! I feel like if I'm going to pay to get them done, gel nails are the only way to go. Mind you I mainly paint my own nails because you have to sell a kidney to get them done in Australia (plus not a lot of places do gel nails from what I've seen). And your girl is an absolute artist! It's fantastic to see someone who puts so much care into their work.

I think I couldn't take the same design for a month, even if it's gorgeous 😞 but I love looking at professionally made designs like yours to get inspirations :)y mom even offered me to go to classes and to learn how to do that stuff professionally 🙈🙊

it's so nice you doing this kind of vídeos. I'm a nail artist myself, and I totally admire korean and japanese nail artists (I find them to be the best). And I cannot stress enough that in this business, for the nails to last long and be perfectly done you need TIME, and thank God you said that and stressed out that very important fact. So , I think I speak on behalf of most nail artists when I say, THANK YOU for doing this kind of vídeo promoting how important it is to be patient when doing this kind of work, and how important it us to find a good nail tech.

Martina, I think the word you were looking for instead of "bake" could have been "set." But fab-o nails! I always think your makeup and nails are on point and so fun. Have you had any trouble with the art part of the nails catching on things? Was there a bit of a learning curve on how to use your fingers with the extra dimension on your nails?
@eatyourkimchi
@eatyourkimchi 9 жыл бұрын
A yes, set...much better. :D The art part is totally smooth once she's done so it doesn't catch or scratch on anything. Like a tiny art filled bubble! There was a learning curve for the length since my nails can't grow long to begin with, so I was amazed at having actual nails! I usually get them done long just before an event and then trim them back to a more manageable length afterwards.

I find long nails absolutely terrifying. I tried growing mine out 2 mm past the finger tip and it was difficult to cook, put in contact lenses, pick up stuff from the ground, or anything else really. It's even scarier to imagine them being 2 mm longer, with rhinestones and shit. How do you even do *anything*?

I did my nails, gel nails, for the first time two days before my Japan trip (I accidentally broke seven of my real nails, which took forever to grow out, so my friend was like; HEY, let's go make new when you get here. I know this awesome place. So I was like; sure, why not?) Now the thing I was worried about was the fact that I was going to go out hiking and doing other scout stuff for a whole month. I was afraid that they would fall off in a week or so, or that they would crack and yada yada because that's what people told me they would. BUUT surprisingly, they didn't even get a small crack despite all the 'not appropriate for fake nails' things I did. So yeah, it totally depends on where you get your nails done.

I used to get acrylic with a gel coat, but after my car accident I was low on funds. I tried the at home gel kits & fell in love. I can get several sets out of 1 $20kit and have fun decorating them at home, or take a fraction of the money I saved and just have a nail tech do the nail art. I also love that if you get a 'flat' (versus a 3d design) you can use regular polish over the gel to change up the look, then wipe it off with remover and still have perfect gel nails underneath.

Love this nail art but don't see any of this style being done in Canadian salons. Maybe I'm not going to the right places or Canada just isn't as cool as Korea (and Asia) when it comes to nail art. Question: Do the pearls, studs, and gems (or bling) get caught in your hair or on clothing? Sunny's nails look so great but I worry about all the 3D nail decals getting snagged.
@eatyourkimchi

I worried about the same thing but Sunny let me touch her nails to prove to me that all the 3D bling is covered in a final clear bubble coating. It's totally smooth and nothing snags!

Is this a common thing women do in cities? I've seen blinged out long nails occasionally on TV (or on Martina haha) but never in person. I don't even know of a single woman who gets manicures (unless it's like their wedding). Is that also something women do in urban areas? Like they actually pay money multiple times a month to get manicures done??? Don't these long nails get in the way? I mean, you use your hands for almost everything. I think I would lose my mind if I had to constantly worry I'd snap off one of my freakishly long nails (that I paid a lot of money for). How do you type or write or do dishes or do anything?! This is a totally foreign world to me. I would absolutely never do it for myself but I find it very interesting.

Some woman do, some not. Its like coloring your hair or getting a facial, its all part of a nice thing some people do for them self. Sunny (the nail artists) has some very long naisl and she managed very well to do Martina`s nails, so, I think its just a matter of knowing your own body and get use to it.

***** Yeah, I was super impressed at how she did such detailed, precise work with those huge nails. I bow before her skill! I just can't wrap my mind around the expense. ~$60/month (possibly way more!) for your nails seems insane to me. If I want pretty nails I just paint them. I have a box of nail polish that cost me like $50 and I can use that for a long time (not to mention I don't have to worry about them getting in the way/breaking off). I just can't wrap my mind around it so I was wondering if it's actually a common practice or if just wealthier people do it or what.

Probably just stinky acrylic nails , impossible to do gel nails and be out in an hour , unless you just getting a polish color . doing extensions and complicated designs takes hours . not just cause the artist is slow , its the process of curing in the light . each stage of nails you do takes 3 minutes in the light to cure , imagine how many stages you need to do . you don't need to diss it if you dont know what you talking about.

+Bé Yêu i dont care what nationality the nailist are , also do i have to explain? acrylics and gels are different. you seriously dont know what you talking about and i dont feel like explaining again and whats your obsession with viets?the nationality has nothing to do with the nail job . your argument is invalid from the get go . also martina lives in korea do you want her to walk the streets to find a viet nail salon? also viet nail salons are famous for doing a crappy cheap job on nails , just cause there are too many , they wanna do a fast job just so they can get more customers. quality over quantity.

Here's what I want to know: When was the last time a guy said "I fell for you because of your nails"? I'm guessing this is something women do for themselves, just to feel pretty. I'm just relieved my wife never got into this. $80 for something that only lasts a month? Nice if you can afford it, I guess. #SoNotMyStyle

You're right Lunay LeZarde, it's entirely too much money but women like the confidence boost and general "oh god I'm so pretty" feeling that comes with a fresh set of nails, it's not meant just to impress guys it's just a really nice thing to do for yourself. At least that's why I get my nails done, each person has their own specific reason I guess. :)

***** It was about how I'm a man and as such, don't think like a woman. If you want to hate on me for that, I don't know what to tell you. I hope that's not the case. While I get that women like to do stuff that make them feel pretty, I don't personally know any women who go in for nail bling like this - the women in my life are far more practical and always have been. That's life growing up in a small farming town and life as an adult in a middle-class suburb. Thus, these kinds of nails are outside my experience. I was simply hazarding a guess as to the motivation and wondering if there were any guys out there who find this attractive. Sorry if the way I phrased it hurt your feelings or offended your sensibilities. #DontAssumeTheWorst

Again, thank you for giving me the benefit of the doubt. ^_^ #YouRock

And if you wanted your nails to last even LONGER Martina, you should ask if Sunny does sculpted gel tips. That means instead of applying a plastic tip, which is weaker, a form (it looks like a sticker) is wrapped around your finger and the tip is created by sculpting/grafting pure gel from your natural nail out to the length you want. Its stronger and longer lasting because having the whole tip made out of gel instead of a plastic tip glued on is a lot more durable as gel is a stronger medium. In exhibition nail art they always do sculpted rather than tip. The appearance is also even more natural as you don't have a line at the base of the tip like a plastic glued tip has ^^
