Commercially, the best nasi lemak , for me, is the simple one wrap in banana leaf costing rm1.50 - rm2.00. Simple ingredient of sambal with crunchy ikan bilis, half boil egg and slice of cucumber. Better still, mom's cooked nasi lemak is the best which we have every sunday. Period.

These commercial bullshyte really give nasi lemak a bad name. north south east west, they all have their own style of nasi lemak bungkus.... they are just mumbling along abt the crispy chicken. lol if u want to eat crispy chicken why the fck u go for nasi lemak? fck

Traditionally nasi lemak comes with only anchovies, peanuts , maybe wth a 1/4 boiled eggs or a thin slice of 'telur dadar' wth either sayur 'kangkung' or 'timun', selling for 1.50 near my place in Sri Gombak.. Side dish is either sambal sotong or rendang ayam/daging/kerang or paru goreng. I believe the fried chicken side dish only came later..

It must be really yummy. Very different from what I know of Nasi Lemak when growing up. All it had was Ikan bilis, cucumber, egg and kachang with sweet tasting sambal with half grain rice. And the serving was always small as this was a breakfast menu. Times have change. Now we have Chicken leg etc. It is no longer a poor man's dish i suppose.

Nasi lemak rumah lagi sedap sbb so far tiada nasi lembak yg dibeli rasa sedap. Mr Kumaar, you boleh cuba resepi nasi lemak yg saya makan dari sejak kecik... Didihkan santan dgn hirisan halia, bawang putih, bawang merah kecil, titik serai.. Santan mendidih, masukkan beras. Saya selalu guna basmathi yg direndam sekejap. Sukatannya, kalau 3 cawan beras, santan 4 cawan yg sama... Utk sambal bilis, tumis cili yg dah dicampur bawng2, tumis sampai pecah minyak, masukkan ikan bilis, sedikit air asam, masak sampai manisan ikan bilis serap dlm sambal..

The last part/scene says it all, the way Logesh and Rachel are fighting over to eat the Village park nasi lemak kinda says both are not equally good. I believe Village park is Malay recipe rempah and sambal while Mama Lee's is chinese recipe so people who are used to chinese food will probably like mama Lee's better. For me personally what makes nasi lemak goodd is the sambal. Taste the sambal first, if its good the definitely its good. Chicken is the topping not the essential. some like to eat nasi lemak with fried eggsa and some with ikan bilis. If chicken is the essence, its nasi ayam already. Btw the title saying best nasi lemak in malaysia is a bit over the top i think since you havent tried all the nasi lemak in all the states yet. Who knows maybe the best nasi lemak probably comes from Sarawak for example. Just my 2 cents here.

I like the nasi lemak bungkus behind my house at Safira's restaurant that sells at RM2.00 per bungkus. The sambal, anchovies, half-boiled egg & a piece of cucumber are just in the right proportion...and what's more it is wrapped in banana leaf to give that extra flavour. Goes well with your morning coffee or tea. Well, based on the Kumar Family's recommendation, I plan to try out Village Park's nasi lemak when I am in KL next week. Hope it is as good as they said.
