Thank you for the video. Would you be able to provide some insight of direct me where to go to get some details on the cost of the different activities. For example, do the art studios have classes or open hours and do they have a fee or are they included in the HOA. Is the golf as membership + fees (round + cart)? Is this community a golf cart friendly community or do most people drive their cars. I'm sure I will have more questions as I'm looking at various communities. It really a matter of understanding all the extra costs outside the houses and HOAs.

You're such nice, real people. At 58, retirement is now in focus for us. In nj, property tax consumes our income, with 63% going to school tax. I would love a video about the average cost to live is palm springs as far as property tax, association fees, utilities and so on. How much annual income does one need to live comfortably in a gated over 55 community? Nj is very expensive. We cant retire here sadly. Im looking forward to your videos ❤

Dad_Church here, great questions and we’ll be working on answers. It’s pretty affordable with the exception of California state income tax, which can be a hard hit if you are high income and stay here more than 6 months a year.

So here’s a quick rundown on our home Purchased $619,000, about 1800 SF with 2 bedrooms (master has nice en suite), a sun room, both bathrooms nicely updated, kitchen appliances all updated. We have a built in pool 8’ by 30’ and built in large spa. We are not on the golf course. Our annual tax is $7838 ( if I understand correctly California taxes do not go up until it sells to a new owner) Monthly breakdown Prop Tax: $645 Gas: $130 (water, dryer, range, spa/pool are all gas powered-we heat the spa twice a week, pool only special times) Electric: $256 average (most months are around $200 but high AC months can be over $400. HOA is $390 and includes Spectrum internet and cable (includes HBO/Showtime, really good lineup actually. Water: $20 month Garb/recycle $22 Total: $1400 (HOA is billed quarterly)

Independent living works great if you don’t have serious health complications and you still get to live in your home in a community that caters to your interests. Assisted living is more suitable if you need a little handholding but you don’t require the 24/7 medical supervision and care found in a nursing home.
