As a perth enjoyer id say its important to note the perth has access to spotter plane allowing for a surprsingly useful spotting option which the tech tree lacks but appears to make up for in base range. Admittedly spotter is far less useful in randoms where everything is spotted 24/7 by cvs and subs anyway lol Perth is a surprisingly strong pick for t6 ranked, and is often underestimated!

Supposedly Encounter is based on an idea Cockatoo Shipyards had before the County-class cruisers (Devonshire, London & Surrey) were a thing, about taking Hawkins' hull as a basis and improving it to make a 9 gun heavy cruiser, probably some WG creative interpretation thrown into the mix (seems increased the tonnage and armor along with modernisation) and voilla.

Problem is only the Ibuki and Chikuma II have lower DPM than this slow tin can - why would you pick it over the Brindisi or even Takahashi which also has better DPM? Just 1km sonar range doesn't make a difference - you can still only detect the submarine if he's dumb enough to go all up in your grill.

dpm isnt everything. with that logic almost every battleship in the game must suck and takahashi must be crazy op since it has more dpm than them

The Encounter needs 3 conditions to be any good - no radars, no CV harassment and no competent DD that can send torps to your smoke. Problem is the Brindisi and Takahashi are simply even better when those same conditions are met.

Great review - good insights, Thanks. QUESTION - shouldn’t it be the case that the T10 of a line has the best overall attributes? It seems most lines to be the case. Why not here? Do you expect they might adjust the T10? Thanks PQ.

PQ I never see you using the best advantage of this style of smoke. You can start on one spot, leave it move to another spot and have it still on you. You don't have to crawl at the lowest speed during the smoke duration.

with Perth you do have to be at the slowest speed, not sure about this one

@@KronStaro I think he means it in the manner of ‘you can smoke up and crawl, but feel free to sprint for a bit (to reposition or respot) and then crawl again at ¼ speed after your sprint’. This is a pretty good option on Perth or Vampire too… although you do leave a trail of smoke pointing straight at you for anyone paying attention. Most don’t.

I was looking forward to this line and got the Encounter, but it truly feels like the worst T9 cruiser I've ever played. Handling of a battleship, armour scheme of a light cruiser, and without the DPM to justify it. It just trades way too much to be "good" at hunting bad sub players.
