Dude the difference between F 1.2 and 1.4 is 1/3 of a stop not a full stop as you indicated. Furthermore, the Panasonic 25 1.4 has ancient focusing technology with loads of aperture chatter that makes it unsuitable for video AF and any type of action. I'm not biased against this Panasonic lens - I have owned it for years. The Oly is hands down better and should be for the extra cost.

I could definitely see that the Olympus has much better bokeh at a farther away distance. I even like it in the close ups. The thing is you can get the Panasonic used for under $300 now while the Olympus is still way up there at $780 used and $1150 new. I think the value deal goes to the Panasonic for non Pros. The Sigma 16mm and 30mm @ f1.4 are a great value too with more glass and better bokeh than the Panasonic, just no weather sealing.

Panasonic /Leica should make a new version of the 1.4. With weather -sealing and updated focusing, it would be a winner. Impressed by their 'inexpensive', splashproof 12-60 from 2016.

I've owned the PanaLeica 25/1.4 & currently own the Olympus 25/1.2. Hands down, Oly25 is so much better IMO.

I used to own the pana 25 and sold it after finding it really soft at 1.4. I choose a fast lens to shoot wide open for good bokeh and was very disappointed. I also own the 12 and 42.5 Leica lenses but they are tack sharp wide open. Is the OLY sharp wide open comparing with the Panasonic?

With such fast lenses i wish u would've test them in low light. Hopefully u can do video that. I have the Pana 25/1.4 but for 2x the cost of the Olympus i don't the image quality is 2x as better.
@TimothySunday
@TimothySunday 6 жыл бұрын
I agree. I ended up keeping the Pana because I couldn't justify the extra price to keep the Olympus. It was a sharper image, but cost-to-value for me just wasn't there.

& also feel the same way about the Panasonic 42.5 f1.2 vs the Panasonic 42.5 f1.7 (which i got on ebay for $280). Check out the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn-bp3V5nLCsp68 by Max Yuryev. Why is Panasonic making these overpriced lenses when their "cheaper" lenses image quality is just as good. Maybe they market them for the gear heads that likes status symbols.

Sadly nobody does the 25mm 1.8 vs 25mm 1.4 😕 I'm looking for the best value for the less price. Fast and amazing quality. 1.2 is almost 4x the 1.8 price. 1.4 is almost double the price of 1.8.

Wrong...f/1.4 vs f/1.2...it's actually .44 of an f/stop. One click on the aperture ring isn't always a full f/stop

All this clap trap about 1/3rd stop, half a stop blah blah blah. If you want to take video use a cine lens, a camera lens works in a totally different way, it has incremental aperture adjustment and not continuous, cine lenses remain in focus throughout and zoom range, a digital camera lens doesn't and isn't meant to because it's primarily designed to take static pictures. And video isn't about the best lens or camera, it's about creativity, making a short film with a storyboard, deciding where and when to film etc etc. A great film can be made with a cheap camera if the creativity is there. Most demos on KZbin seem to be very short clips in a controlled logging area stitched together. Mr nobody buys the camera and lens and walks around filming in and out of the shade and dark, ends up with major focusing and exposure changes the camera can't keep up with, declares it rubbish. Anyway I've covered enough here so time to move on

If the only way to have good photos with a m43 camera is to spend 2000 dollars and even more, why not buy an aps-c or even full frame camera? And before answering "size, weight" look at these gh cameras how humongous are they!
@TimothySunday
@TimothySunday 7 жыл бұрын
+Guardian Observer for photos yes. But I'm talking about video. No aps-c or full frame camera offers the video performance of the GH5.
@canto3471
@canto3471 7 жыл бұрын
Spending that much is not the only way to achieve "good photos." Panasonic and Olympus both have cheaper options that can achieve great looking results with reasonably shallow depth of field.
@guardianobserver6593
@guardianobserver6593 7 жыл бұрын
Canto34Productions This this the logic of the camera manufacturers. But then you realise that your old film camera is what they call today full frame and you wake up from this money taking vortice. If you can of course and if you haven't spent already a small fortune on lenses and accessories.
