Fun fact: Lennart Green was disqualified from FISM (the Olympics of magic) because they thought he used to stooges to "shuffle" a deck of cards. They could not believe they actually shuffled the cards. He came back, and this time had the judges shuffle the cards, and won 1st place in card magic! He was so good the judges couldnt believe it was possible!

Mr. Green is incredible. His FISM routine is mind-boggling. I sincerely hope that when they awarded him 1st place the following year that they also offered him an apology as well. He deserved an apology.

This is also one of my favorite self working card tricks. Just something to note when performing. Whenever I have spectators shuffle, 99.9% of laypeople have this habit of flashing the bottom card during a riffle shuffle completion (they have an unconscious habit of squaring up a ruffle shuffle on the table with the faces towards you). If they don’t, all you need to do is notice how they shuffle. Even if they have a decent or good riffle shuffle, you will notice the bottom card of both halves. The first one to fall is your prediction. Another way, even if they manage to hide it, cut the cards, or shuffle like a magician for that matter - is to tell them to hand you the deck. At the right angle (which takes real world performance practice), you will glimpse/peak the bottom card every time. On the off chance you run into the latter, as soon as you have the peak, I usually say “Actually, I don’t want to touch the cards. Put them on the table instead.” Imo, prediction style effects are much more magical when you can genuinely say you never touched the deck until your prediction was written down. It adds an extra layer to prediction style effects that laymen and magicians alike will not be able to reverse engineer (bc there are MANY forces like the red herring force as just one example of one of my favorite forces for a magicians that many professional magicians don’t know). Anywho. Sorry for the book lol. I just thought I’d share the way I perform prediction style effects. Bc if we genuinely do not touch the deck, we can always start by saying “I’m going to write a prediction down after you shuffled, and before I touch the deck.” Then at the end of any prediction style effect, you can recap the honest fact that you didn’t touch the deck until AFTER they shuffled, AND after you wrote your prediction. Happy practicing and performing fellow magicians. Lennart Green, Juan Tamariz, and Dani Daortiz are the greatest card magicians of all time in my humble opinion…including Dai Vernon, Larry Jennings, Ed Marlo, Brother John Hamman, and all the other grandfathers of this wonderful art that’s allowed me to make a living doing what I love. 32 years after learning my first ever sleight of hand effect, my passion has only grown. Never stop learning! There are so many books, VHS/DVD/now instant downloads from old and new masters, that no magician can learn even a minutia of what is out there

This is a wonderful card effect! The out is brilliant, should the bottom card be selected. Thank you so much for posting this. Doing this effect is about as close as I will ever come to Mr. Green's skills. He is mind-boggling. Thank you again and best wishes. (Liked and Subscribed.)

Great trick and explanations. I really like self working tricks. Another way to fix the problem of the spectator taking the bottom card is to wait until they take the 13 cards and then after you scoop up the rest you peek and then write the prediction. Just an idea. Great vid. Thanks for posting!

@dougway71863 жыл бұрын
Just a thought - after the spectator has removed the 13 cards, have him shuffle them while you look at the bottom of the remaining cards in your hand. NOW you make the prediction - he has already moved the 13 cards, so your prediction card is safe at the bottom of the cards in your hand. Then continue with him choosing 3 of the 13 cards, etc - and spectator can still do the rest of the work. In this situation the spectator can never take the bottom card, and you're good to go.

This is one of my favorite tricks Michael! I use to perform this all the time in high school as this helped me get over my fear of performing in front of people. I use to have them take the top 13 cards to avoid the bottom card being selected, but now I will give them a free choice because of the second out. Thank you for posting this video as I had forgotten this trick and I didn't know about the second out. Keep up the amazing work! #Roadto2K!

I then tell the class that they will see more if they behave. It is a reward for good conduct and not a bribe. Most of the times it works to keep the class under control. 👍

You even have a third way to deal with these routine. Let face down one of the 3 cards and let the Spectator choose a random card instead. The rest of the procedure is still the same, but add some of randomness to the effect. Can do the same with 12 cards to choose, and 8 going back under the (last) key card. I met Mr Green in Seville (Spain) in a close up session. I had the pleasure to show him one of his own automatic trick, with a different presentation as his. A wonderfull trick with no set up, and mathematicly imposible to guess for lay man...A real number one.

@normanacree1635 Жыл бұрын
The highest number you could possibly deal out on top of the three exposed cards is 12 in each pile, assuming the exposed cards were all aces. That totals 36. You add the aces to get three and count them out. You will not run out of cards. Try it. You'll like it.

I tried the trick and the spectator’s three random cards were the Ace and two queens. 1 + 12 + 12…somehow the trick is off with this sequence. I tried replicating it with a 3 and two queens (12 + 12) and it didn’t work. Are the two queens throwing this off?

The best way I know of and use to see the bottom card is to just casually shuffle the deck a couple of times or cut the cards whatever. Then just play with the deck in your hands turning them over casually a time or two as you pretend not to notice the bottom card. No one will suspect a thing; you're just playing with the deck.
